If a server ever complains about their salary to you, ignore them, because servers make the most in any establishment they work in, unless there's a dedicated bartender, the pay order goes: (bartender)-Sever-Manager-Busser-Chef-Cook-Janitor. This holds true for any establishment no matter the size, but the more expensive the restaurant, the more the wage disparity grows, cooks generally make between minimum wage and 12$ per hour, while servers make around 3-4$ per hour but average 25-40 in tips, with high quality restaurants that number can grow to insane payout by the end of the night. Plus a cook or manager will have to wait for their pay to come in every week or two while a server walks out each night with more total earnings, and they get a small bonus on payday.
@Oreobunbun, how the system should work is that servers make a fixed wage of between minimum and 10$, while cooks make between minimum and 12$, managers making 18-20, and the bartender making minimum plus tips. Bar tending is the only task in the restaurant that involves pleasing customers face to face as well as using skills to make orders, it's stressful, it's hard, it's fast paced, and they deserve good pay.
@Oreobunbun, but the tipping system will not go away any time soon, it's too ingrained in our consciousness to faze it out in any less then 3 generations, while we can make servers non reliant on tips, people will still tip because they've done so their entire lives. It's a busted system that scatters reward all over the place and it needs to be fixed, but it's been broken too long and we just need to deal with it.
I personally don't care if waiters make less than minimum wage. Don't like the pay? Get a different job. Not saying I don't tip well, but there's a better way to increase your income than complaining about it.
@ImNotRacistBut, oh and, if there's 17 people at a table, ask if they'll need it split at the end and do the math at your workstation. Don't make me do math after I just consumed 4 ribeye's, 2 baked potatoes, and 36 beers.
Waitress: Can we all leave a nice tip?
Yeah that's gonna be a no for me dog
@Self Stimulation, if you're a waiter/waitress serving a group of 17, you deserve a fvcking massive tip
Groups of 6 fvcking blow let alone almost 3 times that size
@Abusive Breasts, In case not everyone know, servers often get below minimum wage, so customers make up in tips.
@Super GingerBoy, which is fuçking dumb. Why is it okay for them to be paid so damn low and I have to "tip" I.e pay them for they're job and not what I got? How is this still legal?
New job policy:
High school students at a Sophomore grade level are required to be a waiter/waitress for a least one month.
@Abusive Breasts, sucks even more bussing it...
@Abusive Breasts, I think the joke was that he wasn't going to tip them if they didn't split the bill. I'm all for raising minimum wage and even though I'm a super broke college student I do my best to give good tips, but it's the waiters job to split the bill if they ask them too, like all jobs suck sometimes but in this case it's not even the costumer being a jerk, it's just literally part of the job. If a waiter told me "no" when I asked them nicely to split a bill, then that would probably be the first time in my life that didn't tip.
@Self Stimulation, I've been a server and now I'm a bartender. I hate when people say I need to stop complaining about my job. Everybody complains about theirs. But I specially hate it when they say get another job if u don't like it. I like my job, wish I could get paid what I deserve and yes this antiquated system of tipping needs to go. It's like when people complain about retail, I agree with them since I've done it. But I will never say to them (like a snob) why don't you quit?
@I Dexios Divine I, because there's laws that say if the tips don't cover up to the standard minimum wage then the employer pays for the difference. So if no one tips at all they will be paid a regular minimum wage instead of the normal 3-4 dollars.
@Abusive Breasts, I tip 25% always, calm down
It's gonna be a yes from me dog. Me dog is nicer than his dog
