The comment comparing him to antifa almost ruined this for me. Fück antifa, they literally use fascist tactics against their detractors and assault random people. This man should be compared to other, similar heroes, like Oscar Schindler or Raul Wallenberg.
@I Are Lebo, I'll admit, I don't even know how that guy even MADE that connection...
I honestly wish he could have kept it to himself though because this picture teaches about an absolute hero and I wanted to put out some positivity in these hard times
@Lord Wivern, the comment was posted by antifainternational, so I assume it was just a figure of the group attempting to coopt a famous, kind figure into their seedy group for PR purposes.
@I Are Lebo, Man who gives people escape from death camps =/= people who justify their violent crimes that hurt innocent people with bullshjt
There actually is a movie about him, although it's a 26 minute short film: Visas and Virtue (1997). It won the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film.
There definitely needs to be a full length feature film about him though.
@Sexy Homunculus, Hollywood can't make a movie about him because they can't find the right white guy to play him.
@coplights, maybe they should try casting Scarlett Johansson
“Original antifa” ha. Haha.
@LazyTitan, yeah dont insult the guy by comparing him to a domestic terrorist organization
@LazyTitan, yall remember the time antifa helped someone? Yeah me neither mostly i just remember them beating random old people in the streets
@Medic135, that's not it Bruv. You want a terrorist group, it's the NRA.
@Orlandude, i dont think you know what a terrorist organization is
@Orlandude, yea the NRA is a bunch of thugs who assault reporters that try to cover them.
Oh wait, that's Antifa
@LazyTitan, The way antifa label everyone and everything Nazi is a disservice to everyone who ever lived and died defeating the real Nazis. If the Nazis in antifas mind existed then antifa would not, they would be face down in a ditch.
@Orlandude, no you’re thinking the NBA. The NRA is an Irish terrorist group.
@dusty44, it goes further than that. Antifa use the same tactics that the actual Nazis did.
You look at how they go into universities and shout/shut down lecturers. The Nazis did that all the time in the 30s.
@jarede73, this is a serious post we're not doing this.
@Kliment Voroshilov, sorry, you’re right. I mistook this for Funny Pics, and here I am in Serious Pics, the place where people go to have intelligent, rational political discourse.
@jarede73, Its an easy mistake to make. With how quick they change the name around and all.
This almost made me cry when I read it.
@Lord Wivern, "Almost"?... You've a harder heart than I my friend.
I need to go find this statue in little Tokyo, me and my gf go there a lot
@megamanx181x, Wish I could see it.
@megamanx181x, you should post a picture of yourself pretending to accept the visa that the statue is holding out.
@megamanx181x, you must be on your toes if you decide to check it out. I travel through LA quite a bit and that area is a bit unstable or it's easy to get turned south into skid row where things have been testy even before this pandemic situation. I work in a tougher area near the ports but work takes me to Union Station or rather under it and I do recommend you go in the earlier part of the day. Be safe. Little Tokyo is fantastic but do be careful. Take another male friend just for numbers.
The hostility can be surprising if you're not that familiar.
@Che D Lay sir, oh we never walked through there at night, I know exactly what you mean where one side of the street is literally as you’d said is skid row. We usually hang around in main shopping centers or the mall, or we walk over to the art district for the bars. I remember me and my cousin tried driving through that street at night and I swear the homeless were looking to throw themselves in front of my car.
@I Are Lebo, fantastic idea
@Proactive Citizenry , I’ll find it and take a picture when everything dies down, we been missing our Los Angeles adventures for a while
Why hasn't a movie been made about it? Dunno, it's not like the Japanese were villified and thrown into internment camps at the time, then turned into racist caricatures for the next couple of decades...
@SimonPetrikov, This isnt to justify internment of japanese Americans but the imperial japanese were the equal to the nazis in atrocities. They deserve to be vilified the same way.
@Kliment Voroshilov, The fvckers in charge? Absolutely. The people who immigrated here a generation before and had nothing to do with it? The children forcibly displaced from their homes? The Asian people run over on the street for being Asian? No, they don't deserve to be villified.
@SimonPetrikov, Did I not say I wasnt justifying the mistreatment of japanese Americans? People today though seem to have forgoten the japanese atrocities of WW2. I've seen people talk about internment as though it justified Japan's actions in the pacific.
If anything though japan is worse than germany because the japanese government still doesn't admit to any of the atrocities they committed.
people who mistreat japanese Americans = scumbags
Japanese who deny or dispute the atrocities they committed = scumbags.
This may be the most important post on this site.
Speaking as a human first and a polish American second, this man and his amazing wife are true heroes.
