@We Are Groot, Dank memes is not just a skill, it is an art
@We Are Groot, beautiful. Read it in his voice.
@We Are Groot, You're my new favorite.
I am now not in love with an anime character I am now not in love with an anime character I am...
@Fly on the wall , technically this is a manga character since it's from a Japanese book. Anime is Japanese cartoons. (I'm pretty sure that's the only differences. Correct me if I'm wrong anyone else)
@18bluecat, you must be fun at anime conventions...
Sure. Now hold this octopus and let me take a picture
Flat is justice.
@dategrape, shes not tho
I don't really know how I feel about misusing manga/anime references. In some cases, I find it really amusing, in this case however, I must say it slightly annoys me. I feel that people have abused "chan, san, etc", "onii-chan" and "senpai, sensei" a little too much and it turns the joke, whatever it is, a bit sour. It's simply too distracting.
Well, that's just my opinion, I don't claim anyone is wrong by thinking otherwise, everyone has their own sense of humour I guess...
@Ristto3, actually those add-ons at the end are kinda important in the Japanese language, and you'll hear it quite frequently if you're in a place that has it as the main language.
@NAT, Exactly. Someone's name followed by chan, kun, san, sama, etc., denote things like respect for elders, people higher in station than yourself, people you look up to, familiarity with the person if you're friends, and so on.
TL;DR true facts
@Ristto3, you must hate my name then.
@senpai sama, not particularly, when it comes to user names, I've seen enough horrendous ones to love your user name, haha. There is no real context to make me hate it. Say, if you instead said in the comment that you picked it to ridicule something I liked, I would probably take some offense, who wouldn't?
When you've been on the internet for long enough, you usually start ignoring peoples user names. It's often the case that it was picked a long time ago, without much thought or as some kind of a joke, and then people start recognizing you with that name and you do not want to change it. I remember having names in games I didn't feel so good about, but that felt right at the time of creation.
How someone can get so many upvotes by pointing out the obvious is beyond me. I freaking study Japanese, there is absolutely no need to point out that these are honorifics or how they are used, I probably know that far better than you. The point, that you seemed to have missed in your eagerness to point out something everyone who has taken any remote interest in japanese culture know, is that THESE HONORIFICS ARE BEING MISUSED. Perhaps not in this particular picture, but it happens all too often from being used by people who have no idea what they're doing, just because others do it or as some kind of running joke because they think it's funny. Even if used correctly, it is used too often and often in entirely unecessary situations. Stuff like "notice me senpai" is a good example of this. It just kept getting on my nerves. It's not even remotely creative or even funny anymore. I just happened to be in bad humour when this one popped up, reminding me of the issue.
Just annoys me even more when someone gets upvotes because they managed to misunderstand a perfectly clear message. Freaking hell, read the text first. If I felt they "abuse" honorifics, then I would obviously know how to use them and what they are. If I were simply annoyed with people using references from anime/manga or whatever, I wouldn't have said that they misuse or abuse honorifics or words, as that implies I actually know how to use them. Maybe I shouldn't have posted this as I was tired and irritable, but goodness sake, read the comment through before posting misguided replies, which in turn gives other people a reason to also misinterpret my comment...
@Ristto3, First, you never started by saying you study Japanese. I checked. Second, I don't think anyone really cares. Third, calm down. Calm. The fvck. Down.
And fourth, stating your opinion, then saying "Well, that's just my opinion, I don't claim anyone is wrong by thinking otherwise, everyone has their own sense of humour I guess..."
and THEN downvoting NAT and myself and THEN going on an epic ranting tirade when we tried explaining, in lay terms, the necessity of honorifics to someone who might not understand them since you never stated your OBVIOUS mastery of all things Japanese... that's horse shjt.
@YouJustLostTheGame, first of all, you're clearly far more fired up over something so stupid than I am, perhaps you should heed your own advice?
Second, if you'd actually read my text and given it a seconds thought, it would've been obvious that "abuse" and "misuse" are not words used if you're clueless about their actual use. Why would I, if I didn't actually like anime/manga, feel like the references are being misused, instead of overused?
Thirdly, the reason I downvoted you two were not because I disrespect your opinions, hell, there was no opinions stated, so there is no reason for your fourth "point". I downvoted you simply because of the comment being unrelated to mine while also causing others to jump to conclusions regarding my own comment. I only wanted to state my opinions, that these modified texts or just comments containing bad attempts at being funny through using such things as honorifics are getting old and irritating.
Especially such things as "notice me senpai" which really gets on my nerves. I, and a lot of other people, didn't find that remotely amusing, not then, not now, not ever.
However, some people just had to jump at the occasion, as always, to share their "vast knowledge" with other people, who they presume to be ignorant without even thoroughly reading and understanding what was being stated, thus forcing me to try and fix the understanding while people upvote you and downvote me, therefore basically believing in the misguided hypthesis that I wrote that comment because of ignorance concerned honorifics.
But now I understand I should've just written it so that there could be no misunderstandings, instead of trying to give an intellectual opinion. Or perhaps not at all. Though I wanted to see if there was any who shared my opinions, but that was ruined.
Now, don't take this the wrong way. I'm not particularly angry with you and I'm not holding some worthless grudge, I mainly wanted to
@Ristto3, Look I really don't care, didn't in the first place, was just trying to be helpful. I'm done. Please stop blowing up my notifications. Gnite.
clear up the understanding while provididing some thoughts and defending myself against your accusations.
I won't respond to any further replies on this matter, insulting or not, I don't want this to get any more out of hand than it already has. Henceforth, I'll keep my thoughts about badly used or overused "jokes" to myself.
I hope we can end this on a peaceful note, I'll remove the downvote and hope you'll understand my reasons for doing what I did, even if you don't agree with me. It's not worth any more of either your nor my time. Good luck to you and sorry for the rant/commotion.
I make dank memes only so, no. And stop I'm an only child.
@NAT, Yes, and when reading manga or if I use subtitles when watching anime, I want to have them left in, not removed, I really don't like it when translators remove honorifics. My point, however, is that those honorifics are being abused and used where they do not belong, in texts written in(mind you, not translations) english regarding english matters and often in a somehow... offensive way, to those who love japanese culture. Often they're not even used correctly. Just ends up feeling like something of a mockery after viewing too many pictures of that kind.
In this particular picture, it is used correctly, but the text makes it feel annoying. It's probably just because of there being so many pictures out there where people use honorifics without actually knowing how to, or without any valid reason.
Now, I realize it is just jokes and I should get the stick out of my ass, but stuff you find annoying stays that way, joke or not, even if you realize it's not serious.
@Ristto3, I wonder why it was not posted as a proper reply... Anyways, sorry for the long post guys! Always gets out of hand when you're passionate about something.
@Ristto3, did you click the reply button?
@Laperald The Furry31, yep, even got the fancy @"insert user name here" text auto generated. Did switch to another app a few times though to check a few messages my friend sent me. Must've happened something then, even if my text didn't disappear as I reopened funnypics... Hmm...
@Ristto3, that must be it then, funny pics does have a lot of glitches and stuff
@Laperald The Furry31, my favorite is the one I get after browsing through a good few days of recent updates and then all of a sudden more pictures won't load, so I have to exit into the thumbnail mode and scroll back and forth a few times so they load. Then when they do and I click on a picture to enlarge it, the app shuts down after a while. After opening the app I am put back maybe 10 rows of pictures and have to scroll to the right one, where the same bug happens again... Made me want to throw my phone at the nearest bystander quite a few times when wanting a laugh on my way home...
@Ristto3, is throwing my phone at a random bystander not normal? Uh *takes note* thanks for letting me know that
@Ristto3, in this picture she is talking to her older brother, in the actual translation she is asking something attuned to "can we please make babies, big brother!?"
And in this edit they just swapped "babies" with "sweet memes" so it's just a small edit to an already translated doujin
@nemestrinus , thank you for clearing this up. Then I am fine with this picture, it just ends up getting on my nerves when certain people misuse honorifics or similar things for no other reason than that other people use them. It wasn't really the case that this picture in particular irritated me that much, but rather that it reminded me of my a lot of earlier posts/comments and it could've been someone just adding it there for fun, seeing as how the text was obviously edited. So I vented some of my pent-up irritation here, maybe it wasn't such a good brilliant idea though.
