I’m 21 and I read it as pound. Does that make me old?
@Kremits, no it makes you right.
@The Pun Shielder, ist it technically called an ampersand? Or is that the star lookin mofo?
@Joseph The Broseph, ampersand is the squiggly meant to represent "and"
@Joseph The Broseph, &
@Kremits, no it’s the children who are wrong.
@Joseph The Broseph, Ampersand is &. Asterisk is *. Octothorpe is #
@Joseph The Broseph, no, this is ampersand: &
* is asterisk
@The Pun Shielder, I've got a Tide Pod ready and waiting for the day I'm on the phone and a computer menu says, "press hashtag for more options."
@The Pun Shielder, before I knew it as pound, hash, or hashtag (which as a name makes complete sense), I knew it as just a number sign.
@LeafyIsQueer , same.
Who is still laughing at this?
@MMSieBreeze, but why?
@crazylampshademan, just the irony of it...
@MMSieBreeze, well, enjoy it I guess. If I had my pick of reviving dead memes, it would definitely be the "That's a Ten" meme, but to each his own.
@crazylampshademan, I grew up in the deep South, didn't have a cell phone or internet until I moved out. This will always be a "pound" sign to me.
@Xelric, that's fine, but to apply your own logic, pound originally was poundus in Latin, which meant weight, and "too" means "in excess". So if we are really breaking down #metoo, the joke should be "weight me in excess", which isn't really a joke. If "pound me too" is funny because your vocabulary is non-adaptive, that's cool I guess. I'm not trying to make assumptions on whether or not anyone supports the movement or not, or even the validity of the movement; I'm just saying that this meme is dead as heck, and seemed to only be funny to a certain kind of person in the first place, which would be a good reason for it being dead.
That has concluded my Ted talk on the evolution of language through dead memes. Thanks for coming, and drive safe.
@crazylampshademan, if you have to deeply analyze a joke to make it not funny, maybe the joke isn't the problem.
@crazylampshademan, bet you real fun at par... no you’re probably not fun anywhere
@TomPholio, oh no! Could it be that I'm the problem? Is it that I am at the center of all things wrong and broken in our culture, extending the fun-governing of fascists and political correctors?
Nah, man. This is the comment section of a meme forum. It's a space meant for critique. I've been civil and honest. You are right in a way though. The problem with this joke is in my own mind. I don't think it's funny. The basis for that lies in many of my own beliefs and humor. I personally think that some jokes aren't funny enough for revival, and that this joke originates from some pretty poor sentiment.
You will downvote this anyway, because we obviously disagree. That's cool though, because you are free to disagree. Life is meaningless without opposition. I will continue to make analytical comments, and you'll continue to do whatever you do. Stay safe out there friend.
@Hot Coffee, hey, thanks man! I always wondered why I don't get invited out much. Would you tell me how I could be more fun?
@crazylampshademan, You seem to have a not super narrow way of thinking of things and your points are interesting. Would you like to come to my party?
@Jdrawer, I'm broader than the side of an aircraft carrier, friend. I'll see you there!
@crazylampshademan, just remember that the “Meme” already pointed out the “adult” age and a lot of people grew up with that. It’s not old. It’s not new. It’s if you grew with that it also meant your peers. I didn’t go to school or was hanging out with friends or phone call with operator were all confused if I said “pound” for “#”, or message system didn’t say “press pound for more options”. I call Verizon and banks and other services and they still say it. It just means there’s another word for it. It’s not “an inside joke”. And your analysis isn’t well thought out. That’s it. Get smarter or you can just say “ooga booga” for poundusbefore Latin developed.
@Jakobian, Came here to make sure this was here. Good man.
Sharp, pound, hashtag, number... That's it I think
This would've been better without the picture
This is the first time I ever read someone calling it be it’s proper name
@megamanx181x, Well that's not it's proper name either. It's called an octothorpe.
@WifitheRouter, ..... don’t be that guy
@megamanx181x, Don't get upset just because you were wrong.
@Jdrawer, I’m not lol
Calling it a "hashtag" is not terrible, it's mainly the place it came from that I can live without.
