The gold and diamond industry is dying!
Me: And that's a problem because?
@CaptianMcKenderson, gold is actually at a 6 year high, I think it actually might be an all time high as well, though don't quote me on that last part. Though I agree with your point
@4th Hokage, used in electronics, jewelry isn't its only use.
@CaptianMcKenderson, Hooters closed down some restaurants to rethink their strategies because millenials prefer ass over tits. Millenials are killing the boob industry
Anyone who didn’t join the military or go to community college as long as possible complaining about debt can bite my shiny metal ass.
@BigJohnson86, anyone who thinks class mobility is the job of the military service can lick my shiny metal-toed boots
@liberachi , you didn’t read the other option did you?
@BigJohnson86, no I agree community college and trade school is where it’s at, but lower income young adults shouldn’t be forced into military service for economic survival
@liberachi , no they shouldn’t. But more should consider it. The worlds largest trade school is the us military. Join the navy and become a mechanic. Or the Air Force to work on planes. The coasties can teach you to be an electrician. You can do all of these without ever facing down a gun. A lot of people could get help no other system can give them and pass on it because of stigma or thinking they have no options. I did my time never set foot in a war zone and left a 70k job to get my degree while getting paid for that
@BigJohnson86, I agree again, up into the point of calling the military “world’s largest trade school”. That’s just A line recruiters use to get sign ups. The vast majority of veterans don’t leave the military with the education promised to them by their recruiters, especially in terms of the actual certifications and lisense nessicarry to legally practice their trade, that’s while post-service unemployment is at an all time high.
Education needs reform so badly that even the military is taking advantage of the lack of oversight.
Personally, I still believe the GI Bill is the most important military draw
@liberachi, I don’t see how people are falling into the boat of economic survival. I joined the military so I got the benefits. My family, siblings, (growing up in lower to lower middle class) all have salary jobs that are economically sustainable. 3 of the 5 didn’t go to college either.
@liberachi , Then that’s their own fault. It’s not a secret on how to get these things. If you want college they go as far as bringing professors underway to help you complete a full degree plan. You want trade school hours or work credit? they’ll hand you a list of all the stuff you need for certs in your trade. You want a job? They do job fairs in every city available to military only by companies that give preference to vets. I won’t hear anyone complain they didn’t get what they wanted as far as education in the military. They tell you it’s available and if you want it just ask and you get it.
@BigJohnson86, I think you are of the few on here that speaks the most sense out of everyone. I had my friend who had no skills what so ever and sucked at everything imaginable in high school. He went into the army and got shipped over seas... worked as a mechanic fixing the Humvees during the Iraq war. Mainly fixing the air conditioning units. Came back, kept on working on them here and going to school. Graduated with an engineering degree and now works at the oak ridge national lab (the place they made both atomic bombs we dropped on the Japs) dude makes 130K and loves what he does. Everytime we meet at the bar he always tells me that joining the military was the best thing he has ever done with his life.
@seeUpee, man. This is real nice and all. And I’m definitely going to get some “not my fault for not being born in the land of the free” or whatever.
But this is highly specific to the US. I’m not saying you should but lets speak broader.
Eg, I’m from Africa, and as much as I love my home, I could never work in any military position without wanting to off myself. I don’t even want to get started on higher education systems. (From opportunity to attend to just plain credibility of said institutions. Insane)
@seeUpee,What is a dusty boi like me to do ? Fortunately/unfortunately I was raised on the internet because my mom worked hard to provide for my family best she could. Although, this curse of knowledge made me ... ungrateful. Because at the end of the day, I want a bit more than my surroundings offer me. I know it exists. Simple income, anime tits, and not having to worry about p̶o̶l̶i̶t̶i̶c̶i̶a̶n̶s̶ ̶g̶i̶v̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶a̶w̶a̶y̶ ̶g̶o̶v̶e̶r̶n̶m̶e̶n̶t̶ ̶t̶e̶n̶d̶e̶r̶s̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶C̶h̶i̶n̶e̶s̶e̶ ̶e̶s̶s̶e̶n̶t̶i̶a̶l̶l̶y̶ ̶d̶e̶s̶t̶r̶o̶y̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶o̶u̶r̶ ̶e̶c̶o̶n̶o̶m̶y̶ ̶i̶n̶ ̶a̶b̶o̶u̶t̶ ̶3̶0̶-̶4̶0̶ ̶y̶e̶a̶r̶s̶ ̶b̶e̶c̶a̶u̶s̶e̶ ̶n̶o̶ ̶o̶n̶e̶ ̶c̶a̶n̶ ̶t̶h̶i̶n̶k̶ ̶l̶o̶n̶g̶ ̶t̶e̶r̶m̶ ̶a̶b̶o̶u̶t̶ ̶w̶h̶a̶t̶ ̶h̶a̶p̶p̶e̶n̶s̶ ̶w̶h̶e̶n̶ ̶f̶o̶r̶e̶i̶g̶n̶ ̶i̶n̶v̶e̶s̶t̶o̶r̶s̶ ̶f̶l̶o̶o̶d̶ ̶y̶o̶u̶r̶ ̶m̶a̶r̶k̶e̶t̶s̶ ̶w̶i̶t̶h̶o̶u̶t̶ ̶r̶e̶g̶u̶l̶a̶t̶o̶r̶s̶ I mean.... Idk, what do you guys think happens down here ? Witch doctor infestation? Yeah.
@BigJohnson86, been in the coast guard since I was 21. Gave my wife and kids the Gibil and now they have free education
@BigJohnson86, seriously. If you couldn’t handle the debt then why did you sign the loans? Companies don’t care about where the degree is from either... people want to go to these giant schools to party and then whine when they have a hundred thousand in debt
@Rodestarr, dang man... you seriously from Africa? What country? So many questions. I know somewhat your despair. I’m from Argentina that moved to the states. Government down there is corrupt AF but nothing like you got.
@seeUpee, I’m from Namibia specifically. Awesome place, just lower standard of living when compared to Europe etc.
Best beef in the world and we have droughts throughout the year drying us up but even more delicious draughts to quench the dehydration. (Its a beer pun. I’m sorry I even had to explain it, just gotta make sure no one thinks I’m lame on the internet. That’s all that matters.)
If you have anymore questions. Feel free to shoot.
@Rodestarr, interesting you compared it to Europe. You mentioned your mom worked, what is it she does for you to be able to have a computer? You also talked some politics so how old are and why you so concerned for this country? Do you have a love or hate for the USA? In Argentina they all are very ignorant who don’t know what is like to be here and highly believe that living in Buenos Aires (capital) is like the best place to live. Why be here chatting about memes instead of looking for something to better yourself to be able to get out of Namibia, unless you love that place. Highly doubt you have the best beef in the world. Argentina has some really good beef, we are already the number one eater of beef in America, if not the world.
@liberachi , pssst, if you score a 35 on the asvab and then pick "open" for your job selections, you're gonna have a bad time. You literally get a degree in the Air Force for making it through technical training, so long as you can complete, or have already completed gen-eds. A sh*t ton of people deploy in place, meaning they will never leave the states during their 20 years of service, unless it's for vacation.
@seeUpee, oh shjt. Forgot to reply.
1. My mom works in higher than most ranking in public service (man. Would really love to tell you more but I’m afraid of being Doxxed)
2. I am 21 as of this year. And no, I’m not just concerned with the US. Mostly the world. I just saw the conversation as a global thing yet it went in the direction of “just join the military” which I believe that’s a sentiment only the US and certain countries share.
3. Tf would I hate the US ? Or any country ? No no no my friend. What I “don’t like” is how ‘tarded you guys run the place. But again, I can’t judge now can I ? Wrong. Because I don’t run a country, affiliation is not your responsibility. Its literally no ones shjt where and when you’re born. So I can really never hate against a people. Its all circumstance.
4. I didn’t mention but rn I live in the Netherlands. I love the crap outta Namibia, can’t live there permanently.
@seeUpee, 4 (continuation). Sorry if it was misleading. But yes, I came to study here. Humble home and shjt. (Comparatively anyways). Like, back home. I’m sorted, but the whitey white Elvish Dutch keep this place awesome the way it is through the iron fist of peaceful bureaucracy and drugs. Love it. (Except Bureaucracy. FXCK EM ALL REEEEEEE)
Either way, as a foreigner it really sucks. Met some amazing people, seen shjt I can never explain, best time of my life. But its too expensive you see. Like I said, back home I’m sorted, but here, the buying power of my currency is waaaay less, and shjt is just crazy expensive. Have you had food here ? Even the order outs are garbage (insult to the actual food they are imitating) but it’s ridiculously expensive. My greek friend said a gyros in Greece CANNOT cost more than €2 and its delicious and filling. Here. Even when I’ve never had real Gyros, I’m just sad. Its tiny, its gross and they start at like €7. €7 back home could get you a drink-
@seeUpee, (had to edit “shjt” out and it was driving me insane because I couldn’t find it. This app will be the death of me)
- back home you could get a drink, a full steak with sides and you could use some of the change to catch a cab for back home. (No joke. One of the best/worst thing about african countries is how underpaid taxi drivers are, its a beautiful nightmare because they still do it anyways.)
5. I’m not one for pointless internet competition “no mine is better. No my team etc etc is better”
All I’ll propose is we trade beliefs.
I’ll believe Argentinian beef is better than Namibian (from today I’ll think that way)
And you believe Namibian beef is better than Argentinian.
That way, it’ll be super freakin’ dope when I’m proven right and vice versa. Arguing about is dumb, I want to be proven wrong you know ? I mean, if better meat exists and I haven’t had it its time to explore.
I’ve always wanted to go to Argentina anyways.
@seeUpee, the point is.
I just wanted to find ways to apply myself and make money.
As a foreigner studying, its illegal for me to work part-time since I’m not from the Eu. I’m also not a resident or have no familiarity so I can’t get a work permit. I was aiming for scholarship but my grades slipped this year (very hectic settling in. That’s my greatest excuse anyways. I’ve never left my country. Or lived alone. It was a tremendous learning curve when you decide to just skip continents. I don’t like that excuse as my studying is my responsibility but that reality is still.... real) so no scholarship nect year. Meaning my mom has to take care of everything. She has a family to raise so I feel guilty. I want to get a job but no one will take me.
Had a break down a month ago about it actually. I really want to stay and give myself a future but its so hard. There was a period of 3 months where I had no money at all-
@seeUpee, Its suoer hard explaining to people that “yo. There’s money at home, but that money works in the economy of BACK HOME” its utterly worthless here, the bank charges are stupid crazy for money transfers, it takes long to transfer anyways (about 3 working days. When I have my banking app click transfer, 3 whole days. My friend does it from Greece. Instant. But that’s a dumb complaint I feel)
Everytime I want to do anything legally binding (eg getting a rental agreement.) Its such a heartbreaking process. Man. People aren’t racist but if you’re a foreigner its the paramount of sneak-dissing and shjt I just fhsgsjsb. Man. Its the worst, it hurts so much. They always look at you like you’re an untrustworthy unintelligent being that has no idea how anything works. Whats that number one line they always sing “I’m very sorry, I understand where you’re coming from but that’s not how we do things in Holland “
God YOU DUMBASS. That’s not how anybody does anything anywhere. Insulting !
@seeUpee, so you see my desperation. I genuinely don’t think that there cards set up against you. That’s a very selfish way of looking at life. That’s feeling sorry for myself and that is pathetic. Its more that I have to work harder than those in my immediate surroundings. I’m fine with that. I want that.
I just don’t know how. Hence my prompt.
I’m sorry for the lengthy and very late reply. You can see why I don’t. Takes a lot from me. Haha.
I hope this entertained however slightly and that you have a nice image painted in your head. If you have anymore questions just shoot.
Have a nice day and stuff like that.
@Rodestarr, wow, that was quite a book man. So you just there by yourself? All the struggles you have mentioned I have lived myself with my family here in USA. I can write a whole book about it. From not been able to work bc of been here on a medical visa, to having zero credit so no one wanted to rent us anything even if we gave them a whole year in advance. To the money in the bank not been worth as much in US dollars as time went by. The struggle was real. I came here when I was 14 and I have been discriminated, bullied and insulted bc of being a foreigner. After spending half my life here after everything I wouldn’t go back. Our dreams came true after 8 long years of just waiting. 9/11 screw with our papers three times. We would of given up after the third time but luckily it went thru. I have so many struggles like you that it isn’t even funny. When I was 18 I couldn’t go to college bc I needed a student visa. If you want to be there push thru it. Things will turn up, don’t give up
@seeUpee, thank you for your reply. I’m high right now and it touched me so deeply. Man. I won’t give up for anything. That’s my only super power. That I don’t stop. I been dealing with depression and loneliness because I don’t even know anyone here. I made awesome friends that I would not trade for anything. (They all gone now. Big sad.) but I’ll just keep being the best me I can be. Thank you again.
@Rodestarr, I have faith you will do good. Your head is in the right place (even tho I wouldn’t be high, that can cloud your judgment and make you loose opportunities even tho it makes you feel less lonely) I been to Amsterdam in 2013. Drugs, sex, alcohol ran rapid. I seen the discrimination against Africans first hand. It is pretty rough. See if you can buy and sell (not drugs) like cars, bikes or computers. There are other ways to make money to stay afloat. No one can tell you that you can’t buy and sell stuff. When there is a will there is a way. You get there man!
Can’t wait to read these comments.
So tired of this crap, worked 40+ hours a week at entry level jobs (Kroger, Office Depot) for $7.25-$8.00/hr to get me through college debt free. No help from my parents, where I was working there were all colors and genders making the same amount as me, they chose to spend their money on Xbox, iPhone etc.. the only reason people are in debt, or uneducated with no job is because they made poor choices of their own.
Just a friendly tip. If you dont have scholarships or arent 100% sure you know what you want to do, dont go to a university. Go to a community school and do gen Ed's until you decide what you want.
Oh dear, your east asian dance theory degree isnt paying for your $85,000 in debt? But that wont stop you from going out to eat 4 times a week? Wait you dropped out before you even graduated? Hold on, now youre working at kohls? Wait, you didnt even consider a trade school? Grow up. Our generation has it incredibly easy if you arent a complete dumbass
@The Lumbridge Cook, I think the more important question is why does a degree in East Asian Dance Theory cost $85,000...
@A Blunt Object, How else are you gonna get a job at Kohls?
@The Lumbridge Cook, please do go on about how u know all about my situation and how lazy I am. Meanwhile I'm working my ass off between school and work.
@A Math Dealer, there’s no money in dealing math that’s your problem. If you dealt meth you’d be rolling in the money
@BigJohnson86, Private tutoring is a racket. $30/hr isn't something to sneeze at, nor is it unheard of.
@The Lumbridge Cook, And yet you need every adventurer to help you make a cake. But I guess the Duke pays a decent wage since you can manage to pay them all 500 gold pieces each. All you entitled old folks with your living wage paying jobs these days... GOSH...
