"Thou shalt not commit adultery"
@Chicken0War, Are you a thot?
@TriangleTesticles, are you not?
@Chicken0War, It's a bold move Jesus, let's see if it pays off...
@Chicken0War, well in the Catholic Ten Commandment numbering, 7 is thou shalt not steal...Protestants, as usual, changed the numbering to fit their needs (i.e. banning graven images, which naturally belongs in context with the first commandment.)
10 chances. 10 chances to say "don't rape" "don't own slaves" "don't be a dick" instead.. he uses 3 of them just to say "I am God"
@An Everyday Penguin, for the record, the 10 commandments are not the only laws God gave His people. In fact, in Exodus 20, those are only half the chapter. The next several chapters in Exodus, and most of Leviticus are the rest of His laws
@Salem, the Jews have 613 mitzvot (laws) that they are commanded to follow. Those are just the biggest. There are also 7 laws for non Jews in Jewish tradition
@An Everyday Penguin, they're broad commandments that try to give guidance to a cruel and primitive ancient world. Jesus says the spirit of them is to love God and to love each other. All that other stuff falls within them. If you love your fellow human beings, you dont rape or enslave.
@TomPholio, but... that's EXACTLY what the Israelites did to the people of Canaan
Just because someone does something in the bible doesn't mean God condones it. Like I said it was a primitive time and God might have been trying to choose his battles with these hard headed people. They didn't rape though. And I dont believe they enslaved people either.
@An Everyday Penguin, “Take care of your children” didnt make the top ten either! Flawed!
@TomPholio, I dont think what you said is entirely correct. “If you love your fellow human beings, you don’t rape and insulate them.” Seems like you’re implying it means that.
After all I love my car. But I force it to drive me everywhere.
The thing about language is. If its not specific. It leaves it open to interpretation. Something God should know.
They did it on the specific orders of their God. Not trying to sound rude but you might want to re read the Old Testament of you think they didn't rape and enslave
@An Everyday Penguin, I've read most of it. Give a chapter and verse and we can discuss it further.
@TomPholio, we can start with Exodus 21: 7-8 and 1 Peter 2:18
@TomPholio, Numbers 31:7-18
