God: "Where is your brother Abel?" Caine: "I am not my brother's keeper." Imagine murdering someone and then sassing God
I disagree with the premise. One of the brothers (I forget which) had a lot of experience raising animals, and had slaughtered them both for food and as sacrifices. It doesn't take a big mental leap to think that repeatedly hitting your brother with a stone would kill him.
@Lysander99, cain took care of the cattle and abel the crops. God took favor with abel because he offered the best of his harvest, while cain didn't of his meats. If anyone knew about killing, it was cain
@wynaut, close. Cain was the farmer and Able the shepard and when they brought their sacrifices God favored Able and Cain killed him in a fit of jealousy. And yes thats what you said just their respective professions were reversed and i have been at work for 12 hrs and am tired as heck and i just had to correct this comment for no damn good reason and I'm sorry. Have an upvote.
@Lysander99, but, if I remember correctly, no human had ever died before. So they might not have made that leap. We all know people die because we have seen it in movies or know someone who has died or at the very least we told his children that people can die. None of that would have ever happened for them.
Kind of like explaining to someone from medieval times that one day humans would fly in bird like machines. It would be difficult for them to comprehend because they've never seen or experienced anything like it before even though they know birds can fly.
@mycatsanahole, curses, I didn't remember for sure and thought meat must be bad, right?
@wynaut, Did you not even read the bible? Able was the shepherd and Cain the farmer. And this post makes since as according to the bible up to this point, no human being has died. It stands to reason that Cain was under the assumption men were immortal. After all they apparently lived longer then the other animals. Its not that hard to believe actually. Huh. Never thought of it that way. This post is very intriguing.
@Lysander99, You didnt really pay attention in bible study did you?
@LaDarkProphet, I haven't read genesis in a long time, got them switched as has been pointed out.
@LaDarkProphet, why do you always move straight to belittling people? I would normally be happy to have a debate on a subject I'm invested in, but not if your first comments are to insult me and wynaut.
@wynaut, Oof. I havent read my bible in.... i dont even know how long but i remember it clearly. My gran made me read the bible front to back nearly every summer. Funny though, i dont even believe in ANY religion, but you couldn't even remember the most basic thing? Odd that.
@Lysander99, Because im a cunt who despises religion with the fiery passion of a thousand burning suns. In the darkest recesse of my mind i admit i would burn every religious book ever made to a fine ash. I would scour the globe clean from its filth. Religion is a cancer of the mind. It rots people from the inside out. I greatly and eagerly look forward to the day religion is finally put on the shelf of humanities past mistakes. Religion is utterly useless.
Dont get me wrong. I have nothing against religious people. Many of my best friends and the few family that i love and tolerate are religious. But when i see ignorant people spouting off bs, i cant help myself but to call it out for what it is.
And you cant have an easy honest debate with a religious person. Their already convinced they are right, and no amount of evidence, logic or sound reasoning will change that. And that stance makes an "honest" debate pointless.
Um... wow. First off, i'm not a big fan of religion either, but you're honestly going too far.
Religion in its most basic form is just people who have agreed on an explanation for life. It's stories that tell us where we came from, what we should do in life, and where we end up after dying. In that form, it's far from a "cancer".
Now, the religions that abuse their power, encourage killing those who aren't of their religion, and knowingly deceive their own followers... yeah, they're shjt. And I know the world would be a better place if they all went away.
But to call all religion useless is utterly wrong. Children learn from these stories. Adults still live by these stories. People die literally praying, with no proof at all that it will do something, but it eases their passing.
I only indulge in this conversation because when I see ignorant people spouting off bs, I can't help myself but to call it out for what it is.
Spiteful, pathetic ignorance from a cvnt.
@NeroSaber, Spiteful yes. Pathetic? Sure i can agree to that to some degree. But ignorant? No. Not ignorant. Far from ignorant. Ive seen first hand just how dark religion makes people. Ive also seen how dumb it can make them. Ever heard of Kent Hovind? Flat Earthers? Anti- Vaxxers? People who let their children die because they let belived that their fairy tale would save thier child? Lol, what about the hundreds of Evangelicals who live in opulent manors because they tell people to send them money in the hopes of being cured or taken care of? Lol, i once read a story about a women who gave her life savings away, and took a second mortgage on for her home and gave it all to a tv pastor in the vain hopes of curing her cancer. She died and left her children the debt. A cancer of the mind. There are literally thousands of cases i could show you as evidence. Hell, the mere fact that their is a correlation between education and intelligence and a lack of faith and a correlation (TBC)
@NeroSaber, And a correlation between a lack of education and lower intelligence and faith. That simple statistical fact should tell you all you need to know. And moral stories from the bible? Really? What moral is gained from the Noah fable? That men are wicked and deserve to be killed off on mass? Every man women and child? Interesting moral take. What about Soddom and Ghomorrah? That its ok to offer up your own daughters to be raped to death to save two random strangers? Thats morally ok with you? Please. If you had actually read the bible you would find very little redeemable qualities.
And i would NEVER let a child read the bible. Do you have any clue at all as to how much death, murder, genocide and rape occurs in that book? If you think the bible is suitable for children then you need help.
I could drown you in the evidence of what religion has done and will continue to do to humanity. It is the great excuse. (TBC)
@NeroSaber, And i agree. Religion in its most basic form was for PRIMITIVE humans to understand the world around them. News flash boyo. We dont need fairy tales anymore to explain the rainbow or lightning or volcanic eruptions. And do you know what praying does? Nothing. Except make the person praying feel better about the situation. Honestly its insulting. Got a child dying? "O how sad! Ill pray for you. Of course my prayer wont actually do anything to help your child but it will make me feel better about YOUR situation. It might even give YOU a minor amount of comfort onowing people care, but really its just to make me feel better and to give me a sense that im actually helping when im not. See you at church!"
Religion is useless and has notthing to offer humanity as a whole except to make some people feel all warm and cozy inside.
Like i said. Nothing inherent against religious people. To steal a line from religious zealots, i hate the religion not the religious. Ciao. (Fin)
@LaDarkProphet, and here I thought the moral of Soddom and Ghomorrah story was, cool guys don't look at explosions. If you do, he'll turn you into flavoring for food
I've been in agreement with you the whole time about the flaws of religion, I only disagreed with your incredibly dismissive tone of all religion as a "cancer" and "useless".
Because you're right - religion has no practical values. It doesn't "do" anything. And yes, there are some real shjtters who have abused that faith.
But you can be a horrible person and be non-religious too.
Or religious and a good person.
Or non-religious and a good person.
The problem has always been people. After all, God didn't actually sit down and write the Bible. Allah didn't publish the Quran. People did, and they filled it with their beliefs and ideals.
(Cuz btw, death, murder, genocide, rape, and other shjt is all in real life too. Has been for longer than those books have been around.)
And yes, some of these people are basically holy scammers conning naive people. It is a deep, dark, depressing history of dishonest manipulation throughout history.
And all that being said, imagine how many people would be lost if you actually disproved all their beliefs. Imagine, seriously, if you convinced everyone.
You take away that warm and cozy feeling from billions of people, and all for what? To make everyone as bitter as you? Sure, it doesn't do much to pray for dying people, but what the hell have you done for them? How can you even pretend to take a moral high ground when you have given nothing and only want to take away from people?
And how do you claim not to hate the religious, but also dismiss any chance of debating them at all? To rail on evangelicals, associate lower intelligence with religious people, and insult their stories, but still say you don't hate them - just everything they believe.
Absolute bs. You're only fooling yourself.
We hold funerals for the living, not the dead, too. We do a lot of things just to feel better about the world we live in.
Just because you live a miserable life, doesn't mean you get to wish misery on everyone else. It just means you'll die a miserable death as well. And when you die, we'll be sure not to hold a funeral, since feeling warm and fuzzy would be the last thing you want us to do. We'll just look back at whatever hateful legacy you leave behind, and then move on until one day, all of human history forgets you ever existed.
I truly hope there's a better life waiting for you after this one, because you're wasting it.
@NeroSaber, Im actually a very happy man living a wonderful life full of friends and family. But nice projection there my dude. I digress though. Your sad attempts to insult me are not what i wish to discuss.
If a man takes comfort in the idea that aliens control his life we put him in a institution. Why? Thats called a double standard. We lock up countless people for their delusional beliefs, even if it only comforts then and they pose no harm to themselves or others. Even kids who have imaginary friends are demanded to grow up. But not with religious people. That seem logical and sane to you? I guess it must be.
And my naive friend. History will eventually forget everyone and everything. Very few people throughout all of human history were famous enough to be familiar. For every George Washington there where hundreds, thousands of people lost to the sands of time. Its quite arrogant dont you think, to expect or demand to be remembered? (TBC)
@NeroSaber, I am actually happily content with my insignificance to the world at large. And when compared to the cosmos humans are not even a blimp on the radar. And i am ok with this. Its apparently you and religious people who take issue with that. Which i find laughably asinine. No matter how good you are, how bad you are or how fervently you believe, we are all going to die and eventually be forgotten. I find it amusing that death, something so natural, is so astronomically feared. In fact people are so afraid that they make up ridiculous fairy tales to believe in to combat that fear. As if thats going to save them.
And im not wasting me life, trust me. I am actually aware that i only have one life as opposed to those who believe in a second one. So i live it to the fullest i can to the best of my ability. And not hedge my bets on getting a second chance lol. And why would i want a second life? Especially an eternal one? (TBC)
@NeroSaber, Seriously. Have you ever once, even for a second, truly thought about what it would be like to live for literal eternity? Sure the first 5 thousand or ten thousand years might be splendid. But what about after a million? Two million? 10 million? With nothing but perpetual existence to look forward to? Mathematically and stastically speaking, in such a scenario you will have done everything a person can do an infinite amount of time. That sounds... maddening. No thanks bucko. One single well led life is good enough for me.
Not that people as ignorant as you appear to be have ever thought about such things. (TBC)
@NeroSaber, And excuse me? What do people have to gain from losing religion aside from misery? What about perspective? People to realize this is the only life we have and therefore should be led the best possible? How about logic and reasoning? The idea that if theres no magical sky daddy judging us arbitrarily that we dont have an excuse to be cruel to eachother? That a life, because it only happens once, is infinitely more precious because it is finite? Ever think of that? If a religious person dies, so what? They're going to a much better place, according to their beliefs, right? But if someone without religion dies thats it. They're gone forever, with no delusional thought that you will see them again to give you comfort.
Never thought of that have you? Death to me is permanent. I will never see my loved ones again. By a religious person? Lol well death is mearly a temporary inconvenience isnt it? If you think about it logically that is. I digress lol. Im rambling.
@NeroSaber, My point is, my angry misguided friend, is that religion takes away rationality and replaces it with delusional hope. Misplaced hope. A false hope. Life is to precious and to short for such lies.
Not that you agree of course. You seem content to let people believe in whatever delusion they want. Which is fine of course. I do not expect you to change your mind. I just hope this conversation was a little enlightening for you. And maybe next time, lol, try to keep the ad hominems to a minimum ok? Makes your arguments seem really weak and mearly thinly veiled vitriol. Cheers Mate.
But the question we SHOULD be asking is, "What video games did he play?!"
Caaaaain, that kills people
@Tentastic, oh wow I did not know that. Yea im in the wrong here, I suck.
Why did god choose one over the other if he knew it would cause problems?
@sr2029, And thats how we know the bible is full of shiite.
Who are Cain and Abel?
