Roses are red
I don't think it works that way
@Simulationbard , it actually does but he'd be stupid to do so. By pardoning himself he would have to first admit guilt to some crime
@TheWhiteWolf, He’d be removed from office along with any conviction and would therefore be unable to pardon himself anymore.
But Pence would prolly have his back...
@TheWhiteWolf, The Department of Justice told Nixon he couldn’t pardon himself because he couldn’t be the judge in his own case. But that’s one interpretation- a sympathetic DOJ might be okay with him doing it. Of course, accepting a presidential pardon immediately means that you are guilty of the wrongdoing you were pardoned from- as you said.
@Simulationbard , he technically could.
@Doctor Krieger, and pissing on a grave is technically only a crime if you’re caught
@Captain Anderson, no, actually it's a crime if you're not caught. Otherwise there'd be nothing to catch.
That being said, Trump could technically pardon himself, even if it's up to another branch of government to let that happen.
@Doctor Krieger, Also, if he pardoned himself he legally has to admit guilt to accept the pardon, meaning he’d still be removed from office. Presidents aren’t above the law.
Guilty of something...
