Duck Dynasty star makes homophobic statement without realizing the irony.
Yeah, I don't like kazoos either
I'm just gonna say my piece real quick. He has every right to an opinion and freedom of speech and all that. Just like everyone on America should/ does. BUT the network has every right to say "you know what, we disagree with that and don't want you representing our channel". He can say whatever he likes but they don't have to keep him on their network. Ok I'm done now just wanted to put that out there thank you and sorry for the long post
@HIMYwaitforitM, I totally agree. Btw your name is awesome! :D
@HIMYwaitforitM, but they didn't have to air it. It's not like it's live and they have no control over it
@HIMYwaitforitM, isn't there a law that says you cant fire someone because of their views or how they look
@HIMYwaitforitM, True. It's just ridiculous that they did it.
@HIMYwaitforitM, I agree, but I still have the right to hate AMC for being a bunch of cowardly, PC-loving b*tches.
@Horny Bitch, you do realize that none of his comments were on the air right?....
@AlaskanBu11Worm, yes, it's called equity
@AlaskanBu11Worm, depends on the contract he signed really. Unless the contract terms protect his ability to use/say certain phrases, slurs, and/or diction, the network has the ability to fire him.
@HIMYwaitforitM, I'm pretty sure he's talking about a flute
@HIMYwaitforitM, EXACTLY! People don't realize that A&E, as his boss, is well within their rights if they want to fire him. In the workplace, your boss can and will fire you for saying something out of line, and nobody realizes this.
@HIMYwaitforitM, if it were the other way around and he said he did support them, and then got kicked off for it, they would call it discrimination and that the network hates homosexuals
@HIMYwaitforitM, it's rediculous because it's an unscripted show so they should expect anything
@American, wrong channel there chief
How about we just have this app for fun and laughs and not any politics of crap like that, eh?
@BelleMarie, Thehe. He said hard and blow. *giggle*
@BelleMarie, Why is this not top comment?
Ahem. Duck calls are hard, and you blow it with great enthusiasm.
Just because someone doesn't completely support gays doesn't mean they hate them or that there a "homophobe"
@Poopmaster, it does if they say it's a sin
@Legit Comments, I think your comment is down voted because of communication error. All Legit is saying is that if one says homosexuality is a sin, then that person is a homophobe, which is true.
@Anal Pocket, someone please comment here and tell me just why I'm wrong.
@Anal Pocket, just because someone's religion says its wrong doesnt make them a homophobe. I personally am atheist but I have religious friends whose religions say homosexuality is a sin and they get along just fine with gays. If a persons religion says something is a sin then they don't need to make it a part of their life, but that doesn't mean they hate on other people who make it a part of theirs.
@pyschedelic oysters, there's a difference between someone's religion saying something is a sin and an individual saying that. If they were the same, then all Christians would point to Leviticus and say "Hey look! Owning people is okay!"
@Anal Pocket, because by your logic we are a homophobe because we think it is a sin, correct? Since all have sinned and therefore are all sinners, I should have a phobia of everyone on earth including myself.
@Threetwoonesage, Phobia (noun): The intense, irrational fear of something. Homophobia is no more an actual phobia than xenophobia. Rather, a homophobe is one who hates or discriminates against homosexuals.
@Legit Comments, you sir are completely wrong. Just because I don't agree with my fathers alcoholism and believe its a sin doesn't mean I HATE him. I don't agree with his lifestyle choice. He may not agree with me and he may not think that his drinking is bad. That doesn't mean I'm a bad person for disagreeing with him nor thinking what he does is a sin.
@Anal Pocket, I am sorry my word choice was not exactly correct please replace "phobia" in my comment with "unreasonable fear."
@Threetwoonesage, still wrong, not what I'm telling you.
@Anal Pocket, I'm lost then. I was going by the definition of "homophobia" but since homophobe was in fact used you can change "phobia of" to "fear or hatred for." But I digress.
@Anal Pocket, just because you believe something is a sin, that does not mean you have an irrational fear of it. By any means, it's a sin to lie, when my siblings lie, I'm not irrationally scared of them? In the same manner, when someone is gay, I'm not irrationally scared of them at all?
@Anal Pocket, I think sex before marriage is a sin, but I do.I'm not scared of myself. Your logic is just so completely off I can't believe you wanted someone to comment and tell you why you are wrong. I wish I knew the name for the fallacy you committed, but just know your dots don't connect.
@Anal Pocket, but why did YOU get downvoted?
@The Antagonist, because he doesn't know what he's talking about?
@Anal Pocket, that is the pop culture definition of homophobia, not the actual definition of homophobia. The term homophobia is greatly misunderstood and overused. The true definition of homophobia, specifically, is fear and loathing of homosexuals and their lifestyle because of internal ambiguity of one's own sexual identity. Therefore, homophobes are only a subcategory of people who hate and/or discriminate against homosexuals; it is not an all-encompassing term. Source: any psychology textbook.
@Homestarrunner, except that's a little different from homosexuality, as drinking is a choice, whereas homosexuality is not; you're either born like that or you're not. Also, sorry to hear about your father's alcoholism.
@Michael Klump, and now you are wrong. Homosexuality can be a choice. Your theory hasn't been proven. It still a theory, and can't be applied to all homosexuals. Homosexuality is a lifestyle, where the person has the choice to act upon it or not. Btw a phobia is fear, that is the meaning, and it could turn into discrimination. I have a phobia of spiders, but I don't discriminate them, instead of killing them, I let them be.
@1Reyesda, lol huge reply train
@Homestarrunner, I'm just saying that if you think someone's actions are terrible and sin worthy, then likely you don't like them as a person
@Legit Comments, Except everyone sins, so what you're saying is completely invalid
@1Reyesda, so being straight is a lifestyle? You chose to be heterosexual?
@1Reyesda, I would just like to say that actually homosexual individuals are born homosexual and although I suppose they could choose to marry a person of the opposite gender that would not change who they are. Some people like both genders an that is being bisexual, but just like how I'm heterosexual and I can not change the very essence of who I am, homosexuals can't change who they are. Sure, I live in Washington state, so I could marry another man but I would not love him or feel any desire to make love to him and that goes for the other way around too. It is not a choice or a switch that you can just turn on and off, it is who you are like your hair color, you can dye your hair and maybe even fool most people but when it comes right down to it you will still be your original hair color underneath. So please remember no matter what your view on gay marriage is don't say anything that would hurt others. Thank you for your time.
@Michael Klump, just so you know I'm with you, it seems like everybody on here is saying "look guys it is wrong but we are the better people so we can disagree with their CHOICES and move on" it isn't a choice! I got your back, buddy.
@Michael Klump, last time I checked and science confirmed, you are born as man or woman, so... What's the point if your question?
@KiritoSAOHero, I'm sorry if I hurt you with my comment. People are free to do what they love to do, what I'm referring to is the proof behind the sentence: "people are born homosexuals" science has failed to prove that theory, and it DOESNT apply to everybody. I live in the Bay Area and I know and work with many homosexuals, they are sharp and great people. And trust me they weren't born gay, and that's my point. When you get scientific prove of such, and that can be applied to all cases, get back to me.good day.
@Nacho Libre, thanks for following it ;)
@1Reyesda, I'm not gonna lie, I only got to your comment. Then I realized it had been like 15 friggin minutes.
@1Reyesda, you didn't hurt me with your comment and I actually agree that people are not always born heterosexual or homosexual.. I guess what I was trying to say (and i realize that i messed up saying it) was simply that once people realize that they are what they are nobody can change that about them, and they can't change that about themselves.
@KiritoSAOHero, I totally agree with your argument. Only us have the power to change ourselves. Thanks for the clarification :)
@Nacho Libre, hahhaaaa... A lot of people get their best ideas in the shower. I can say the best arguments are discussed taking a dump! Hahahaa...
@1Reyesda, hahaha...awkward laughing....hahaha...
Freedom of religion and freedom of speech is gone in this country
@IntenseRainbows, people are too soft nowadays and they get offended by everything
@Mikey D, "Hey, you! Yeah, you! Merry fvcking Christmas!"
@IntenseRainbows, luckily the rest of his family refused to do the show without him. They're putting him back
@Mikey D, thank you. I agree with the overall message, but the original comment was a bit too extreme for me.
@IntenseRainbows, MUST......NOT......... START..........FLAMEWAR
@Mikey D, that is a very offense statement calling people soft jk I agree with you anytime someone offends a minority all he'll breaks loose
@Mikey D, what's that supposed to mean?!
@IntenseRainbows, A&E profits off viewers. He said something that affected their pockets so he has to go. It has nothing to do with freedom of speech. When was the last time you had a job where you could say ANYTHING you wanted without repercussions? If he wants to do that he can start his own network.
@IntenseRainbows, are* gone
@Class 5 Titan, they asked him a question and he answered it, if they didn't want the answer than don't ask the question. Everyone has their own opinions though.
@Rampill, we know what they say about opinions and @ssholes, right?
@Mikey D, it offends me that you'd say that
@DoctorThrob, no not really, tell me
@Rampill, everyone's got one and they all stink
@IntenseRainbows, Stupid Liberals!!!!!
@Gabuscus, how dare you steal his name. You should be ashamed of yourself.
@Mikey D, I agree that but some of the things he said were very gross and offending to a lot of people,Even me, but now and days people always get offended.
@Mikey D, he said that blacks were happy during the Jim Crow era and nothing bad happened to them; what he said about homosexuals is due to his religion so nobody can get mad at him (still rude what he said about homosexuality). He deserved the suspension because if people were to ignore comments like this then you're asking for racism and discrimination to come back at full force in the Us because it's still here.
@IntenseRainbows, I'm sorry, which country is that? There's more than one, despite your perspective.
@IntenseRainbows, i think people need to stop thinking that they should get special treatment for being different.
@Class 5 Titan, I completely understand where you are coming from... However, a&e should know that the robertson family will most likely not do the show without phil as they came out and said. Really the show for them is to spread God's word and they make little profit per person since they split it among the whole family. Their money comes from Duck Commander. A&E needs Phil Robertson more than Phil Robertson needs A&E...
@IntenseRainbows, I even have a few gay friends pissed about this.
@IntenseRainbows, he does have freedom of speech you brainless moron. A&E decided to distance themselves from him because people were going to (and did) freak out. A&E is in the business of MAKING MONEY! They were worried his comments would COST THEM MONEY in lower rating.
@Class 5 Titan, *Kills titan
He's still right. Freedom of speech and religion are gone. Though A&E are totally in their rights firing him if they think it reflects badly on them. They've made a huge mistake however, as I'm sure most of the viewers couldn't care less about it. They just want to be entertained.
@IntenseRainbows, So when did they start rounding people up for praying?Has the government already arrested you for saying such things?I'll wait.
@IntenseRainbows, essentially, yes, but this isn't an example. He has every right to express his beliefs, but AMC has the right to not broadcast said beliefs.
@Jean Kirschtein, you couldn't kill a bug, trick @$$ h03. I don't condone what's done but when it comes to business, it's never personal. Its all about $$ Phil will still get his and will continue to make a fortune, but I don't believe freedom of speech is dead. Information is a double-edged sword and the speed it is being delivered at creates extremists on both ends. Reality TV sucks anyways (not a viewer of the show) and GQ should've never asked the question.
@IntenseRainbows, I would kindly like to direct you all to read a post by Maureen Johnson on her tumblr about this topic (post #70511333591). It may open the eyes of some of those people who think "people are too soft nowadays."
@IntenseRainbows, what he said had nothing to do with either of this things
@IntenseRainbows, freedom of speech and the right to practice your religion have nothing to do with what he said. Freedom of speech is the ability to basically say what ever you want (with some limitations) and not be arrested for it or taken to court in anyway. That does not mean A&E has to let him say what ever he wants. He signed a contract with them . He represented their brand. In an interview like that he stood for A&E. He should have known what should happen and maybe he didn't care. But the moment he has legal ramifications is the moment this infringes upon the right of free speech
@Mr waffles, this is just a comment on the freedom of speech part that's unrelated to him but interesting if anyone cares. If you protest near anyone with secret service protection now, and the secret service doesn't like it they can send you to jail on a felony charge. Please correct this if I'm wrong on anything
@IntenseRainbows, he has freedom of speech. No legal action can be taken against him because he's perfectly within his legal rights to say what he said. But the people he worked for are perfectly within their rights to fire him. They felt that he made them look bad, that's a legitimate reason
@Mikey D, schools in my area have made it a regulation to call freshman "new students" because apparently people are offended by freshman. We also have to say "happy holidays" not "merry Christmas" because it's not politically correct
@IntenseRainbows, These two points are completely irrelevant. He was fired by a private company for slandering a large population of Americans. If I went to work and walked around talking about how all African Americans are evil, I would be fired, and rightfully so. The firing of this person was constitutionally sound and morally correct, the first amendment has no effect upon this case
@Mikey D, Phil Robertson effectively told all homosexuals they were all heading to hell and compared homosexuality to bestiality. Any human being would be offended by such ignorant remarks
But they said no homo so it's ok.
As a gay man, I think that he has every right to say what he believes. There are people don't agree with the what I believe, and there are people who don't agree with what he believes, but the principle idea of a free country is to be able to speak these believes without being criticized.
@Fun Bobby, I think everyone should be criticized over what they believe. Free speech guarantees protection from PROSECUTION, not people disagreeing with you.
@Fun Bobby, penalized*, not criticized.
@Fun Bobby, what? Without being criticized? So I can't say my opinion on the things other people say? That's is EXACTLY the point of freedom of speech.
@Fun Bobby, you're right a part from where you said "without being criticised". If we have freedom to say what we believe, surely that should include what we think about each other's views. If you say we can't criticise anyone's beliefs, then how would anyone discuss or debate anything?
@Fun Bobby, that's was an ex evenly comment. Thank you! I know exactly what you meant at the end of your comment. It's funny how these idiots focus on the error but not in the actual meaning of your comment. Ignore those jackasses... Again, thank you!
@Fun Bobby, thank you for your comment. I just hope more people like you can think the same. Funny how these idiots only focus on the small mistake at the end of your message, and ignore the real message... Again, thank you!
All his money comes from people putting their hands around something hard and blowing it with great enthusiasm.
Says the man who sells duck calls for a living.
This whole issue has nothing to do with freedom of speech. It is about the fact he was suspended from the show. He was never charged it prosecuted for what he said or what he practices religiously.
@Nagato Pain, that is the "clean" way to prosecute your believes in the TV industry.
You guys understand that his right aren't being infringed right? A&E is an open proponent of gay rights, and for him to go and say that homosexuality is a sin directly contradicts A&E's message. They didn't infringe upon his rights, they just said he could speak his mind somewhere else.
While argue over someone else's rights all of us are starting to lose some pretty important ones because NDAA passed the senate. Which allows indefinite detention of US citizens without due process. Now is what he said really that big of a deal?
@Tehfcae7182, you know what is sad, if you type NDAA in google you won't find any major news, or media outlet mentioning it. Many Americans thought Bush was a bad president, but now, we have so many ignorant Americans that don't know the serious implications of Obama's decisions, and are far worst than any other president in history, even Nixon.
I'm 100% tired of hearing about this.
So I guess my playing the bagpipes is "unnatural"?
People forget that he didn't just talk about homosexuality and the religious aspect of it, but he talked about blacks and how in the south nothing wrong was being done to them. Along with how they were happy with the laws they had in place. If that doesn't sound closed-minded then I've lost all hope in humanity.
@Miree, you...obviously did not read a credible source when you read this...
@Black Sean Connery, no, he's right
This wasnt a free speech issue...at all
@Ryancezz92, yes it was, they asked a question to him and he said how he thinks being gay is a sin and right away gay people got offended and next thing ya know he's suspended from show. It should be our right as Americans to say what we think without getting punished for it, the main reason he got suspended is because it was a gay comment. How is that not a free speech issue?
@nerdylicious, because the government wasn't involved in any way. An independent company suspended one of their actors for saying something that could give their company a bad image. If he had gotten arrested then it would have been a free speech issue. Yes we can say whatever we want and be free from the law, but we cannot say whatever we want and be free from all consequences.
@Sexypony, yes I completely understand your point but it's still a point where he was punished for saying something that he believed in so it's still a matter of free speech
@nerdylicious, I understand what you're saying too, but unfortunately just because the law protects us from being persecuted for our opinions, it doesn't protect us from independent repercussions
Did anyone even see the part where he said,"but it ain't my place to judge."
I love how they took one of the main people off of their most popular show, and expect people to still want to see it. Yeah, Most people still want to see it, but with Phil
Wow.. After reading all of these posts, I'm actually proud of people for being so open and... Well.. American ... *music plays while bald eagles fly over and people partake of beef jerky *
Wait... This app isn't full of hardcore conservatives is it?
@Anal Pocket, and I thought I loved everyone here
@Sexypony, afraid it is
@Sexypony, I get the feeling that there are equal parts Liberal and Conservative here, and then a handful of people like me, Libertarians...
@American, that makes me feel better :)
@Sexypony, no... It isn't.... Just most people with level heads have come to support Phil regardless their political views...
@Anal Pocket, good. Leave it that way. People who see both sides of the coin
@Sexypony, if so, what's the problem? Are you the only one entitled to your opinion!? Are you going to discriminate on the believes of those members of the community? People mock Christianity, our forefathers, and our nation, w/o a problem, but heavens forbid if someone mocks a homo, liberals or Mohammed or whatever else is "sacred" to a minority... Truly discussing!! Who fights for those rights? Equality my ass!
I love Phil
You know if he said it were a sin to be straight now one would say anything it's just the whole gay right movement is big right now and if a news station can have a good story they'll twist words like they were last on the telephone game
@Nibbs, I don't even know why you got downvotes!!! You are totally right! And sadly, that is called the new America...
Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical
liberal minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream
media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to
pick up a turd by the clean end.
So an openly Christian man thinks homosexuality to be morally wrong and this surprises people how?
I support gay marriage, but I'm also EXTREMELY opposed to political correctness. Needless to say, I support Phil regardless of his stance on gay marriage.
Everybody is focusing on the homosexuality part of his comment. What about when he said that black people would be better off under Jim Crow laws?
I know what he's talking about, a whistle. What, you all thought I was going to say d!ck? Well, I don't fall that way.
@Darth Malgus, honestly I love your username did you read the book?
@Legit Comments, no, but I would love to, if I had money, but I have killed myself in the game which is paid by other people.
You can't ask a redneck about such a controversial subject and expect him to be polite about it. It's just not the American way.
Waaaahhh... The guys on my favorite show doesn't agree with my ideology. I must get him fired... Waaaahhhhh
Don't see why people are all up in arms over somebody being a dick. I cant watch Fox News without being angry at the people they have, but it's not illegal to be a POS, yet
@42Weasels, what about him saying what he did makes him a dick? He was asked a question and he stated his mind.
Wow, I just wasted 30 minutes updating this picture over and over so I can argue over the internet.
@Anal Pocket, aaaand you lost
Did he actually say this or is this a play on the fact that he makes hard things that you put your lips on and blow
OMG why is everyone freaking out about this?
I've not heard about this before and I have no idea of the context, but from what I'm hearing in the comments, this man was asked a question about male homosexuality and his response was negative and he got in trouble for it? I have no experience with male homosexuality, but I am a lesbian (although, I don't know why the two are ever separated. Homosexuality is homosexuality, two men or two women) I strongly disagree with this man's opinion but I think it's wrong for him to be penalised for it- especially if he was asked a question. While I wish people didn't have opinions like this, I'm not going to say he can't express his opinion because that's just wrong.
At no point has Phil Robertson ever said that
The bill of rights isn't absolute. The first amendment is there so that the government can't do anything to you. A network on the other hand, yeah your freedom of speech doesn't matter anymore. This is a publicity stunt. 90% of the new season has been filmed, their patriarch is gonna be on every episode until the next season.
but he sells duck calls he just explained how to use a duck call
OH MY GOD FIRST FACEBOOK AND NOW THIS!
its funny because he could be talking about a duck call, such fowl play from whoever made this XD
