Alcohol was actually pretty much the safest thing to drink before we could really purify water.
@TheStarHawk, on the Mayflower the children were given alcohol for that very reason
@TheStarHawk, I mean it wasnt just straight up. They added some to water to make it safer.
@TheStarHawk, in Egypt they fled the slaves a very hearty, grainy beer for multiple reasons, it gave them sustenance and it made them passive. I'm sure the lack of clean water is among them.
@TheStarHawk, Yeah but the alcohol they drank back in ancient times wasn’t designed to make you drunk as it’s main purpose was for fluid intake. Anyone today who drinks the recipe for ancient Greek wine would be very disappointed
@TriangleTesticles, and it sanitized the water
@TheStarHawk, There were however, also many more sources of natural, clean running water though, which slightly skewers how we interpret this fact today
It is delicious AF. Besides with out alcohol a lot of us wouldn’t have been conceived!
@seeUpee, Seinfeld reference!
@Dephenistrator, My ni**aaaaaa knows!!!
@seeUpee, *high fives
@Dephenistrator, *down low*
@seeUpee, People like the taste of alcohol? I have to mask it to the point I wonder what the point is
@theprofprofessor, really? Maybe you one of those that likes fruity drinks. Or your life is so good you never had a need to down some booze to cope with your day. Straight Vodka to me is freaking delicious. I can drink a good quality bottle with out even realizing it till it just creeps on me and I’m mega drunk.
@seeUpee, Trust me I snuck in my fair share of Carlton as a toddler, but when my family was trying cocktails earlier in the year I was apparently the only one that tasted the alcohol, so maybe I’m super sensitive to it
@theprofprofessor, it could be it. But I believe is a tolerance to the taste you kind of grow into. Like I hated the taste of beer when I first had it. Now I love me some Pale Ale. When I first started heavily drinking, everclear totally fried my taste buds and the will to live the next day (best bang for the buck we could illegally obtain)
@seeUpee, Yeah I’ve been told that but I tend to either quickly hand over a drink I don’t like or suffer in silence while making note to never get it again. But who knows? Based on my family history I might be a near alcoholic in 20 years
@theprofprofessor, when i drink screwdrivers i have at least 3 if not 4 shots of vodka its more vodka then oj and i can drink a little over half a tall bottle of vodka in one night
@seeUpee, russian standerd platinum
@Greathoneybagger88, Vodka is my poison!!! Your too?
@seeUpee, yes i love potatoe water
@Greathoneybagger88, depends what brand you drink. A lot of vodkas are distilled from corn
@theprofprofessor, I’m not a huge fan. I’m at the point where I really don’t bother to drink too often anymore. One recommendation I have is a good Moscow Mule. Heavy on the lime, Cock’n’Bull ginger beer, and Tito’s vodka usually doesn’t come with that vodka aftertaste.
Alcohol! The cause and solution to all life’s problems
Everything’s a poison, even water will kill you if you drink enough of it...
Not really. Our bodies are designed to metabolize alcohol. I mean yeah, in large quantities its dangerous, but that could be said about anything.
@aminalFacks, that’s what I was going to say. Everything is poison at high enough levels
It makes life so much easier
@megamanx181x, rubbing alchohol for external wounds, drinking alchohol for internal wounds
@Scottles, numb it all...
Alcohol is a level 1 carcinogen along with cigarettes, plutonium and asbestos. Yes, for real.
But let's ignore that because we like to party!
