Prions scare me
As a biochemist this meme pleases me greatly
@BearInATopHat, so is this supposed to be that protein that clumps and may be a cause for Alzheimer’s?
@BearInATopHat, as a retard this meme confuses me greatly
@pleroma77, yes, Amyloid. The red arrowy bois are the key to clumping, as they stack on top of each other forming extremely stable structures with the same tensile strength of steel. We're not sure though why protein clumping proves so damaging to cells (particularly brain cells) which is why there are few treatments for diseases like Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, and Huntington's. Kuru, mad cow disease, and Creutzfeldt-Jacob Disease are all prion diseases too, which are caused by different proteins assembling into that structure in the pic, which is fascinating! (And terrifying)
@BearInATopHat, as patients who develop Cretzfeldt-Jacob Disease do so extremely rapidly. Their decline is so fast that it is measured over days, whereby they literally lose all sense of who they are, with fatality occurring after ~2weeks. If you want to freak yourself out, google "CJD Patients stories". Its heartbreaking to see how family members literally lose pieces of their loved one's personality day after day until they are no more.
@BearInATopHat, science is amazing
@Anass Rhammer, I wonder why that might be?
@Anass Rhammer, Must have them misfolded proteins
That depends on the effects of the “misfolded boi”
COMIC SANS WHY
As a UK vet student, this makes me mad
My money is on the misfolded boi
Damn I love biology
