I don't think anyone knows what ancient Egyptian sounded like. The people who translated probably saw a hieroglyphic of a cat and called it the Egyptian Mau.

Believe it or not I'm Egyptian... The Egyptian word for cat is "ota." Unless this is ancient Egyptian then I have no clue XD
