I can actually answer this! Pokemon meant "clumsy person"or something similar back in the 1880s, just by coincidence.

@Allah Hu Akbar, It actually is! I saw the answer to this last night, apparently pokemen is an Old English word or something that was written about in some scholarly stuff in the mid to late 1800s.
