I WISH I WAS HIGH ON POTENUSE
Making something awesome, and making something that everyone lined up to buy are not always the same thing. Marketing to people is a skill all on its own, and if you nail it you’re rich.
@big freedom, It’s true. It’s not like Jobs offered nothing to the company, and just jumped in and took credit. He was a visionary, and was able to navigate both the tech and business of the times well enough to help Apple become relevant. Woz, despite my respect for him, would have likely become a desk jockey for IBM had Jobs not pushed him and their ragtag bunch of programmers and engineers to do more.
That being said, jobs was also a maniac, and a bit of an a-hole. I wis he’d have accomplished what he did without treating those under him as poorly as he did, and I hope the innovators of today find a way to make similar breakthroughs while building each other up.
If you haven’t seen Pirates of Silicon Valley, it’s a great film, either way.
@Berntley, for sure. It’s amazing how most people that are that talented are complete assholes.
