The end of MOST radiation foods
@Sluggernot, they used to make watches in France using a radium-based paint on the watch face that made the numbers glow in the dark. The women working in the factory would lick their brushes to keep it in a fine point for detail work. Most of their jaws later rotted off.
@Kyroll, omg I'll just file that tragic, horrifying info away in the ole mental archives under "Things I Wish I Never Knew"
@Kyroll, it wasn't France, it was in the US. Look up Radium Girls. There is a chapter on them in the Poisoners Handbook, and more recently an entire book. Their watches were used by US soldiers to see time at night without giving away their position
@Sluggernot, and here I was wondering the other day why a bottle of almond extract I found in a store was proudly stating that it was "Non-irradiated"...
Watch “evil dust” on YouTube. Very interesting, when companies pay for research... then they can do what they want with it. Companies gave zero fvcks about people’s lives
Sadly companies did this.
@Cuactemoc4919, This is a scenario where my favorite permutation of Occams razor comes into effect. "Dont attribute to malice what can suitably be explained by stupidity." Our understanding of nuclear chemistry was in its infancy at this point and its physiological effects were largely unknown. While the manufacturers were undoubtedly making dubious claims about its positive effects they likely had zero understanding of its downsides.
His jaw fell off....
