Umm. Someone hasn't been reading their Bible.
If you aren't into living your life in line with the Bible, okay. But don't redefine what the sin is just so you can feel better about yourself or because that's society's take on those issues now.
@RogueKnight, most of these seem more like someone's personal rules on how not to be a a**hole. Most aren't actually bad, and a couple of points are accurate, but the majority is made up of opinions that are distant from what it actually says. The Bible is actually pretty clear on how it defines each of these. Sill, its interesting to see how some people interpret things like this differently.
@The white dude, fair points, but when you call something "The true deadly sins" it seems to be more than just someone's personal rules.
And honestly in today's society, taking religion out of the picture, I agree that these are a good start for living in society and not being an a**hole.
@RogueKnight, only catholicism defined these as deadly sins. It's not a Biblical principle at all. All sins are the same in God's eyes. Sin is sin. And it needs to be forgiven.
@johnfloreztx , I'm talking about the definition of the sin. Just for example. What the sin is defined as by the creator does not much the biblical description. I get 7 deadly sins is a Catholic thing and that are sins are equal. I'm talking about the description of the sins.
@RogueKnight, gotcha. I thought you meant the idea of deadly sins in general. But I'm with most comments I've seen. Didn't read much and disagreed lol
@RogueKnight, yeah, because technically sex is sinful if it's with anyone that you are not married to. I have broken this rule, regrettably, but I have changed my life and I try to do right by the woman I will one day marry......assuming I ever do.
Yeah, you immediatly lost me at lust.
@All my Mizore, I feel like all the rest are really good but the lust one is suspect
@GFDOOM, sssshhh believe the lies
@DrSin, ah hah, you made this post didn't you?!?!
@That one lurker, I have no such powers
@GFDOOM, one of my problems with the lust one was "dick pics"
Like. Sorry, this was obviously written by a woman who has been sent many unsolicited dick pics. They aren't inherently evil imo, just when they're sent to someone who doesn't want them. A friend and I literally exchange unsolicited dick pics all the time, but that's because we have a pre-existing understanding and know we both appreciate them. 💁♂️
@OopsIEsploded, and God said to Abraham, thou shalt not send thine dong or facsimile to yonder woman. Even though I hast blessed thou greatly in that department. *fistbump*
@Lysander99, but god, what about sending them to bros?
@GFDOOM, envy was pretty stupid though. Its like they dont understand what envy is or why its a sin.
@OopsIEsploded, lol you send dick picks to your bros? Do you atleast say no homo first or after?
@BlazingBowman, we're both gay so no
@OopsIEsploded, sooo your telling me you say tots homo bro?
@BlazingBowman, oh yeah. The most homo, even.
@GFDOOM, what’s wrong with the lust one?
@RollingInD1ck, this whole list addresses the 7 deadly sins mentioned in catholicism and later Christianity in general. By the standards set by catholicism, sex before marriage, consumption of porn, masturbation, having multiple sex partners (unless you were married to them and they later died and you remarried) are all considered sins.
@GFDOOM, well that just sounds terrible. To each their own I guess
Not sure i agree that they understand what envy is and why its a sin... actrually i dont think they understand why any of these things are sins.
@BlazingBowman, I thought the same. If you wanna be an atheist thats fine and completely your choice, but then when you make commentary on religion and try to tell them they are wrong for believing something different than you, that’s when I have a problem
@The nOly One, exactly haha. Like who is this guy to tell me what’s sin and what isn’t. All of these words are for when a natural emotion is taken too far. Everyone feels sexual attraction, the point at which it becomes a sin is when it becomes “lust” and so on for all the others. 1/10 info-meme, thanks for trying haha
@The nOly One, i mean not exactly what i was saying but i dont disagree with you.
Lust sounds like the excuse hoes use. Like when they talk about Mary Madeline being forgiven, they forget that being a prostitute back then was a sign of desperation not sexually empowered.
You a hoe. Taking more Dongs than a churchbell don't make you holy. There is a reason STDs are on the rise after this sexual liberation decades ago, and looking at that multiple partner comment I can guess why.
@Sambob, they never say that having sex with multiple partners and such makes them holy, only that they do not think it is a sin. STIs are problematic, but is classifying more liberated sex as sinful really an effective or the desired way of resolving that problem?
@Sambob, stop poking holes in my evil plans you ass
@Sambob, Biblically, Mary Magdalene wasn't a prostitute, she was possessed by seven demons, whom Jesus expelled from her.
What kind of make up your rules as you go Protestantism is this
@madeyoulook2, On behalf of protestants everywhere, I disavow this new age hippy rationalization unequivocally
@Yourself, I am Catholic, but I can agree with you on that point
@madeyoulook2, There are a few denominations in the Protestant tradition nowadays that seem to be really invested in redefining sin and reinterpreting scripture to fit modern social and political ideologies. Just to name a few, Anglicans, Lutherans, some Methodists, etc. Of course every denomination has its factions, so there are Lutheran traditions (like the Missouri Synod) that reject the new ideologies of other factions like the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. I am Protestant, but I have long admired the traditions of the Catholic Church. Although I have noticed that Pope Francis is trying to change a few things.
@Block1187, the Catholic Church is the theologically and historically most studied religion, our catechism (rule book) cant be changed and therefore we have a strong unwavering foundation. The Pope can’t really change much in terms of Church tradition or moral law but he has made some small changes that don’t interfere with either. Its pretty cool to belong to a Church with Popes who date back to Jesus’ time. Anywho Im just ranting on. God bless.
Nah, all of those are actually sins. Keep telling yourself what you want to hear, though.
@Captain Swordsman, pretty sure the author is referring to the biblical context, not the definition.
@Kingsizedmidget, under biblical context, all the "not sins" are indeed sins. The author also states that this list is to help "people raised in religious households".
@Captain Swordsman, exactly, they are challenging the traditional meaning of the sins and claiming that they aren't necessarily bad if you take a nuanced approach.
@Kingsizedmidget, right, and I disagree with that. Masturbation, lust, coveting are all sins. Doesn't matter what some Tumblr user says when she's going up against God.
@Captain Swordsman, and if you’re atheistic, then the Biblical stance doesn’t matter anyway. Some of these are on the verge of saying that, if you were raised Muslim, then pork isn’t haram if you prepare it right or it’s just stock. It’s simply wrong. Is there a far too “legalistic” form of these sins Biblically? Sure. But many of these are simply not it.
@Captain Swordsman, Can you go up against an imaginary sky daddy? I... is that a thing you can actually do? Cause i mean if Jacob can woop his ass then why cant the rest of us? I digress.
You can happily keep your fairy tale booklet and believe in whatever imaginary friends you want ^-^
@LaDarkProphet, OH SHいT SON, YOU REALLY GOT ME WITH THAT "IMAGINARY FRIEND" BIT, REALLY OWNED BE XDDD +1 UPVOTES +1 REDDIT GOLD +1 FEDORA TIP
@Captain Swordsman, feeling sexual attraction is a sin?
@BlazingBowman, okay maybe that's a valid point and I overgeneralized a bit, but failing to turn away when you experience those feelings, or to wholesomely pursue marriage with the person (assuming you're opposite sexes) while supressing them is bad
@Captain Swordsman, nobody said it wasnt.
@BlazingBowman, edited for clarity. I lost track of it and was trying to say that taking the marriage route was okay, but ended up accidentally endorsing lust. Now it's in line with what I was trying to say.
@Captain Swordsman, cool
Tumblr without porn is just stuff like this and that’s why it’s a worthless site without porn.
i agree with everything except the porn part. Also, it’s not a sin to use drugs (even heroin or meth), it’s only a sin when you become addicted and hold its value over people or other things in your life and especially if it takes you away from God.
Actually they’re all sins lol
In fma brotherhood lust was so hot.
@Greathoneybagger88, ^ a beacon of hope in a dark and angry comments section...
This is gay
The bible is ridiculous poppycock with a few Disney morality lessons. We’re good, thanks.
This is SO FUNNY! Such a Funny Pic loolilolololililillolololol
Most of these, to me, seem to be poorly phrased.
Could someone weigh in on whether that is a difference in belief or form over function construction?
@Ewok612, it’s basically a person morality system set up by the OP to make themselves feel better about how they live their life and never seek to change or better themselves
