In case anyone was wondering this is done exclusively to renew their ownership of the ip and stop it from going into public domain. Disney has lobbied hard to keep their ip much longer than normally legally permissible and after not getting yet another extension their solution is to remake everything. So, it doesn't matter how well the movies do. That's not the point really. Disney will just stop at nothing to prevent anyone else from ever using IP they have used, even if, when they used it, it wasn't theirs to begin with (beauty and the beast, blatant Shakespeare and other writer knock offs, etc)
@danciestlobster, To be fair, I'm against characters going into public domain. A character's story should only be able to be written by the creator. However, this hardly matters since they keep their IPs so long that the original creator probably died anyway.
@18bluecat, while I mostly agree with that, my concern with disney is much of their content was not theirs to begin with, but now they guard it as their own. Beauty and the beast was written long before disney picked it up. Aladdin is modeled after actual Arabian nights tales. Many stories modeled off brothers Grimm fairy tales. Storylines directly copied from other authors, etc. The hypicracy is that they take other people's ip and then guard it as their own forever without ever giving back to public domain
@danciestlobster, Oh yeah that's a good point. It's really weird how someone can take from the public domain and keep it. Like I can understand being able to keep the rights to original designs used in the movie but being able to keep the rights to something they didn't even write is ridiculous. When I wrote my comment I was thinking more about Mickey Mouse and friends.
Same employee: “Okay okay hear me out now on this one! ….instead of doing them the exact same, we flip the roles written for male characters and make them female roles. And the already female roles…. We will leave as female roles!”
@JacketOff, the already female roles will be played by an ethnic background female..
Eagerly awaits song of the south remake
@BigJohnson86, For some reason, it's not on Disney+
What if we make the villains the good guys and the heroes bad?
@The Goshdarn Batman, Disney "we are an inclusivecompany that values all traditions and ideals".
Also Disney "our morals flipped past few years so let's remake everything in the past we can and relabel it as evil while shoving in our new "morals" like supporting interment camps in China, toxic feminism, socialism, anything LGBT we can put in, etc. If anybody questions us we'll cancel them to prove how inclusive we are"
“Call it alternative universe or something “
Everybody acting like this is something new... meanwhile, geezers like me, muttering, "You obviously didn't see the early days of Disney Channel!"
