Its a stupid rule, Sith should be trying to recruit as many as possible
@AussiePatrick, yup. But you know. Bad writing.
@ThePandaPool , its probably the main thing that annoys me about it. Super power hungry evil villains gimping themselves by restricting the amount of bad asses they can have at once.
@AussiePatrick, don’t know what disaster Disney cooked up to explain it but in the original canon the reason was essentially that the Sith believe the strongest should always rule, but with more numbers, several weaker Sith could and would band together to overthrow the leader thus leaving them with a weaker leader than before. Then along came a guy called Darth Bane who yeeted all the old Sith and decided to have only one apprentice. That way the apprentice always has to be stronger than the master if they are going to be able to overthrow them and become the new master. Sorta makes sense if you think about it.
@Lord Cthulhu, but if that's from the books, none of that is cannon anymore.
@Lord Cthulhu, except it fails in practice. And several past Sith that emerged as spirits have actually denounced the practice. The only thing that truly equals strength is the knowledge to wield the power of the dark side. Heck there’s a sith in The EU that never killed, never attacked the Jedi. He just quietly practiced and ran a business as his front. He died old, surrounded by friends and family. He was still considered exceedingly powerful.
Though I don’t recall if he took an apprentice.
@Lord Cthulhu, A strong leader would instill respect, fear and loyalty. If several "weaker" sith were able to band together to overthrow the "strong" then are they really the weak one? Sounds like a policy made up by a scared little wussy
@Lord Cthulhu, but Darth Bane is canon though...
@Cloverleaf, oh interesting, do you remember what his name was?
@Lord Cthulhu, Darth Bane is Canon but also sheev mentions the rule of 2 in the clone wars animated show
@MrWonka, Darth Vectivus
@AussiePatrick, basically back when they were doing this where they had practically an army of sith they were constantly fighting within themselves and assassanating eachother for powet
@Lord Cthulhu, no.... the Sith were not evil and the goal was to bring balance. Bane knew the Sith were too powerful. Creating the rule of 2 balanced the force. Then came Palpatine and his greediness ruined everything.
Ok so I may be wrong on this, but its 2 sith lords and not just 2 sith. So its like saying there can only be 2 on the jedi council, not 2 jedi. Otherwise what point is there to have the rule when Dooku has ventress and General Kenobis announcer trained. And in the clone wars Palpatine didnt kill maul after he discovered he was still alive, he just put him in a lower position.
To keep the balance there can only be two? I don’t get it. There’s hundreds of jedis but only two siths because balance? Looks questionable to me.
@Have An Upvote, with used to do the bunch of sith thing but then they lost so switched up the strat and went for power over numbers.
Well yes, but actually no
This is why I much prefer the sith of KOTOR. Theres a top guy and his lieutenant yes but loads more underlings all with force abilities. I've said it a thousand times and I'll say it a thousand more. MAKE THE MOVIES MORE LIKE THE GAMES
Palps: “don’t be silly, dooky. Of course, you are.”
As you can see in the old republic games, when there's multiple sith, they kill each other more often than they kill Jedi
