The .999 is pissing me off
@Cunt of Monte Cristo, It doesn't to me when you can mathematically prove that 0.999 repeating equals 1.
@ElectricalFire, if you're doing basic math.
@RiffRaff, how is it basic math? The proof uses calculus.
@ElectricalFire, calculus=basic math. There's a whole field of math dedicated to infinitesimals that proves that wrong. The "real number" system may indicate that .9999... may equal 1 through a proof with a wave of a hand and basic math showing that it equals 1.
@ElectricalFire, I mean... .99 repeating isint one, it's .99 repeating. It's the closest you can possibly get to one, In fact it is infinitely close to one, but it is still not one. It's much easier to substitute it as one when working with arithmetic though and you might as well seeing as it might as nothing could be closer to one.
@RiffRaff, I see where you're coming from and agree to an extent, but disagree some. I feel that to the average bear calculus isn't basic, because most people's math skills stop at algebra, but to a mathematician or physicist calculus is basic.
@ElectricalFire, yeah I took pre-calc and then calculus freshman year of HS(14y/o 14 yrs ago) math is super easy and even when I went through college I never understood how people didn't get it.
They got ripped off for half a cent. 1.999 x 5 = 9.995
@Lord of Sloths, if you're mad about that wait until they start ripping you off in terms of dollars
@Lord of Sloths, naw man that the last 9 means 9/10 of a gallon. Cause you can actually get a free tenth if when it shuts off their is enough gas in the hose
@Lord of Sloths, ._ _ _= tenths place, hundreds place, thousands place. they were not ripped off by half a cent sir.
@ThatGuyx79, I think I had a brain fart.
@Lord of Sloths, when you see the price for gas, they don't list the second 9. It's deceiving as hell.
@ThatGuyx79, It's a 500th.
This is daydream fuel
my sister purposely tries to get it an even number every time she fills her car up
@monggu, doesn't everyone
Still not as good as when Homer got free gas when he filled his RV
@TriangleTesticles, Propane is better, that's why I watch King of the Hill instead of The Simpsons
A $1.99 per gallon? I need to live where you live
Where is gas 1.99?
Ok...I'll ask it...where are you getting gas for $1.99?!
@PeppyHare, where I live gas went down to as low as 1.70 so this seems reasonable
@Lord of Sloths, dang! Gas around here is around $2.50 at the lowest
@PeppyHare, it was that cheap in east Texas a couple weeks ago.. It's 2.09 last I checked.
@sheishkabob, I would love that price lol. Oh good ol' California cost of living
If you cover the 1.999 and look at it, it looks lovely.
