I get this is from some show and whatnot, but I hate this. Because this disdain and disrespect for policemen and women happens in real life; cops are people too and you know what? Someone needs to do the fvckin job. So shutup, sit down, realise that nobody gives a flyer how bad your day was and that you were stupid enough/not concentrating enough to do something that requires another person to follow the regulations that they HAVE TO in order to do and keep their job. /rant Actually no, remember that as fellow human beings they are also prone to mistakes and making horrible decisions that they will regret for the rest of their life. Just like you were stupid enough to run a red or go too fast because you decided everyone else's safety was secondary to your need to arrive slightly earlier. So unless you're a cop, internal affairs, or anyone with more than the information provided by media outlets, shut the hell up. Your opinion is worthless, no one cares. /actual Come @ me downvotes

@Baynality, nobody needs to do the job of being a cop. We don't need cops. I personally have dealt with deadly, out of control situations by calling the cops (they came out and talked to everyone involved and then just left) and by myself when cops refused to come to my house when I told them there was a crackhead stealing shjt from my pasture. If you're a cop you're agreeing to participate in a system of corruption and greed that only serves to incarcerate and exploit. And IF you're a cop you don't get to make the decisions that you regret for the rest of your life because if you do that means innocent people die. Anyone else makes those decisions and they rot in prison, cop does and he MIGHT lose his job. Telling everyone to shut up about cops is infantile. They are an authoritarian militarised group that are literally killing people at a higher rate than some countries entire murder rates. They need to be talked about so they'll change.

@Jim Carrey Acolyte, also since you require evidence as to why I have a right to make this argument (because you're a child who doesn't understand everyone has a right) I am part of a cop family. My step father was a prison guard. My uncle is a cop, my grandfather was a Texas ranger. I also make it a habit to get stopped by cops when I'm not breaking the law so that I can fvck with them. I've seen how they treat civilians, I've seen how they talk when they're alone. I've seen how corrupt they are first hand. So there's my credentials, boss.

@Oreobunbun, this isn't the best place for debate as I can't exactly send links and pictures to prove my point. But if he suggested that they weren't and had some sort of refutation to the fact that police organisations are receiving military overstock then I would listen to it. I would go research it. I wouldn't just laugh at him and say that he is uninformed.

@Donald Drumpf, antagonises strangers? All I do is drive around my town at night and I get pulled over. I'm pretty sure I'm the one being antagonised. Also my creds are the fact that I GREW UP IN A POLICE FAMILY. You conveniently ignored that it seems. But yea. I go to their events, I ride in the car with them. I've been pulled over with them. I've watched them disregard the law and then demonise people who do the same. I have no faith in the police because I'm surrounded by them. Do I love the people? Yea. The organisation they're a part of is trash, though.

@Jim Carrey Acolyte, you know what? I didn't follow my own advice and decided that my shìtty attitude for the day meant my rant was justified, which it wasn't, and I was pretty childish. You're right; a lot of things need to be spoken about and change, especially over in the US. That initial bit of yours about agreeing to participate in a system I'm not for. Everyone's got their reasons for following career paths, but saying that people becoming cops are actively doing that is a bit far fetched. I think I get what you mean, but it's a bit ridiculous isn't it? Cop recruits don't stand there going "man I can't wait to perpetuate this corrupt system that I'm just a pawn of" it's "man I can't wait to put away some pieces of shìt doing the wrong thing". It comes back to the bit where they're human too.
-
@Baynality, of course, you're right. I don't actually think cops go into the system ready to perpetuate some horrible status quo upon the populace. Most of them probably go in wanting to help people and then get caught up in what is going on and the unfortunate thing is even if they don't like it, one person can't change something. Whatever I said before, if it perpetuated the idea that the people behind the uniforms are evil I'd like to rescind it. I do think the organisation is going in a dangerous direction though and I wish it was safer (where cops wouldn't lose their jobs or be stuck behind a desk) for cops to speak out against it. One thing we can definitely agree on is that there are good cops. My family may break laws and do ignorant stuff but they are good guys. They want what's best for their cities and their fellow officers. But they serve in an institution that will betray them the moment they speak out against it and that scares me.

@Jim Carrey Acolyte, it obviously seems that it's different in the US, but where I am cops and their public get along pretty well. They're trained to, and do, treat the public with respect and positive attitudes, sometimes to the point where they're ineffective and get steam rolled by someone with an overly strong personality in some situations. They talk a lot of shìt behind closed doors, every profession does. I've heard some utterly heinous stuff, but it's just the humour that goes with it and i get that that shìt doesn't fly for civilians. The other part was the decision regret. I mean, they do make those decisions that they regret for the rest of their lives, and it's a fvcking terrible thing to live with. I didn't consider the prison aspect though, that the job makes them essentially immune to manslaughter charges. Old mate robbery-turned-wrong has to live with it and rot in prison, whereas Sgt plodd lives with it but with all the support that a normal life provides.

@Baynality, I guess we should've verified we live in the same countries before we had a talk about it. Eyyyy age of limitless communication. Anyway thanks for your viewpoint. I think there's a lot to be learned from civil discussion and I defo agree with you on most things. Even f they're happening in a different country.

@Osama bin Dead, I won't say you're wrong but I've never seen tear gas, Flash bangs, Fully automatic rifles, grenade launchers or electronic rifles that emit a signal jamming frequency for sale to the common man. (I know you can buy fully automatic rifles but it costs stupid amounts of money to get licensed).

@GunLovingMerican, you'll note that this isn't an essay and that in debate burden of proof lies upon both parties. Your claim that the police are just fine is at outlandish to me as mine is to you. So your insane claims require proof. And none of your ignorant bullshjt from the little bubble you live in. Go find your local crack house and then drive around in the neighbourhood until you get pulled over. If you don't get shot report back to me on how you were treated.
-
@GunLovingMerican, don't assume you know anything about me. I know where things are in my community so that I will know the areas where crime and police corruption are going to be highest. And I didn't bother replying to it for several reasons. First because it seems you're too stupid to understand a varied opinion. Second because I wasn't talking to you in the comment you pulled it from and third because I'm tired of this conversation as a whole, not to mention having it with a far right toddler who will not be swayed by any discourse no matter what. I don't care if cops have big guns and help people and only do what's right. I do care if they are a corrupt force that acts more like the gestapo than public servants. I'm not for a railroad to oppression. Call me crazy. That's all I've got to say about it so say whatever you will. I'm too bored with this conversation to continue.
