I agree with all but college...and thats a grey area. Id prefer my kids go to trade school. Maybe even combine a little of both? Id rather my kids learn hands on and learn a profession so that one day they can use their knowledge to go onto business for themselves instead of being employed by others. That is my goal as a parent at least. Whether or not I succeed in my goal is yet to be seen...buf i dan only hope
@MMSieBreeze, I agree about college. It is a big gray area. There are tons of usless degrees offered. Which won't find you a decent job, or even a job at all. But a lot of places these days won't hire for a good position without a degree. I'm a CS major, and most decent listings require a Stem degree of some sort.
And there's a whole other political can of worms I don't feel like getting into.
@MMSieBreeze, you have to understand the point of college isn’t necessarily to learn (I know, but bare with me), but to learn how to learn. I used to be a professional stock trader in NYC and I worked alongside people with degrees in all fields like philosophy, psychology, music, etc. why? Because they proved they were able to learn something complex. Therefore if they can learn one complex thing, they can learn another complex thing such as trading
@MMSieBreeze, I attended college for a year and then a trade school (which I couldn’t complete due to Covid) but both experiences led me to my dream job that I’m at now so I don’t think completion is as important as the life experience or the connections that come from both. Overall though, tradeschool college/university.
@MMSieBreeze, I'll agree on the basis of it's importance to exist, not that it's important for everyone to go, if there is a skill or a reason for your being there great if not don't waste that time and money.
@MMSieBreeze, I share a modified view. College is good if you’re focused and have a real major (like pre-med, engineering, pre-law, etc.). But I always tell my younger cousins that the most important degree to avoid abject poverty is a hs degree. Then I tell them that not all career paths need a college degree and that they should take time to consider and examine their options.
I even say that taking a “gap year” after hs can be beneficial (as long as you are working productively during that year).
@MMSieBreeze, as a tradesman, most of the better trades people I know, learned how to work with tools, and how to be safe, from parents or other family members first. Something about learning, while you're in the learning years maybe.
@MMSieBreeze, agreed! I feel it might be better to say that you should never stop learning.
@YoYoMango, I would agree, if it wasn't for the fact that most college students do not trun out how you describe. They come out coddled, and stupid.
@Thatoneguymayknow, did you go to college?
@YoYoMango, No, and I work in IT. Very few careers actually need a college education.
I know a lot of people who have been, and I have been subject to many a college student, and have learned of common trends.
They still post stuff on tumblr?
@megamanx181x, pretty sure they’re all on Twitter now.

@Cave Dweller, and remember what Mike Tyson says.
"Meth is cool"
I’m sorry brothers and sisters, I’m old school. My kids weren’t raised like this. They were raised to accept personal responsibility. Work hard, make gains, profit from said gains.
The thing about Tumblr is that they don't think.

I’m...I’m not beautiful?? *sobbing while holding rope*
I agree with everything except some of the education stuff
@Reluctantkitty , education is extremely important. Where and how you are educated are other matters. Paying thousands or millions in some extreme cases for a college degree is often a waste. Self education is something everybody should do so they are able to function in society and so they are not swindled so easily.
Depends on the school. Smoking and drugs can be cool, but most of them can be and most are harmful - depending on the drug & as it's currently classified, weed is. Doing something because it helps you or you like it can be "cool", the problem is identifying with societal standards.
There's too much in this list that has too many grey areas or leaves too much open to interpretation or criticism.
Wait drugs ARE cool though...
Drugs are bad...Mmmkay?
Thanks mom I’m eating my veggies dont worry.
Jeez, back in my day, we just had that one guy in his fifth senior year to teach us this stuff... the times, they are a-different!
I think all of these are pretty relative depending on your situation. Some people have good reason to act the way they do and think what they think, even if it defies conventional wizdom. Some people had sh!t parents, some people's school might actually have been a waste of time that was a virtual hell for them. And hey, drugs can be cool. But not meth, meth is never cool.
Or that being a dick to kids is hip. If they deserve it, sure, but in general? Be kind to them. They’re fvcking kids for Christ sake
Tylerssjoseph? Dammit mom will you get off the internet already. I knew that name sounded suspicious
