Just because it is against men doesn't make it not sexist. Just because it is against white people doesn't make it not racist.
@Captain Magma, I feel like the women only showing wasn't designed to be sexist though, it's possible to segregate without discrimination. The showing is the same as those gay expos and feminist cons etc, the group wants to go there to hang out with their own kind, not to be discriminated against/discriminate towards all others. This tweet was probably done with racism in mind though, people need to get better at that.
@YUNoJump, I guess it turns into discrimination as soon as you deny people who do not fit your group access. So if the the movie theatre denied men access to that particular screening, one could argue that it is discrimination, however, I think we should also accept that sometimes you want something for yourself, and not everything needs to be shared all the time. It's a thin line.
@Captain Magma, Let em whine. Let em cry. Doesn't affect my privilege!... Yet
@YUNoJump, you know this argument was once a thing right? Turns out there is no way to be separate and equal. also, when someone can not participate sure to race, belief, sex, skin color, etc... that is like the definition of discrimination.
@GunSupporter, "no girls allowed" stops being acceptable once you pass childhood, because by that point you're expected to know better.
@GunSupporter, discrimination based on freedom of association is different than segregation. It's a tricky thing, but we should allow people to congregate voluntarily. The trick here is if black ppl bought out a theatre for a showing, more power to them.
@Bethere2soon, putting a different word behind it is just a scumbag way of doing a scumbag thing and trying to get away with it.
@Mr Bombastic, I used to work at a movie theater, It is possible that a group just rented out a theater for a private party/viewing.
@Captain Magma, I may be one of the few people that just doesn't care either way I guess. At least not in regards to movie screenings. Seems like a stupid thing to get up in arms about to me.
@YUNoJump, come on man, we had a whole court case based on that concept, and they determined that "seperate but equal" is not actually equal.
@Captain Magma, I wanna like your comment and I feel like you're saying something cool but I don't know what it means with all the double negatives
@I cut your face, BROWN V. BOARD OF EDUCATION WHOOP WHOOP
@Pinkpuppetfred, if people do something against white people, they think it isn't racist
@BigfootUnibrowMan, there's a substantial difference between "private group, invite only" and then only inviting people of a specific colour, sex, religion, etc. and "this demographic only".
@I Are Lebo, Of course. If it was an open viewing but only women were allowed to buy tickets then yeah that's wrong.
@Captain Magma, it's only not sexist is the women gather before the movie and pay for the theater to be rented. That makes it a private viewing and wouldn't be open to any of the public afterwards. If they're just not letting men buy tickets to that showing, it's discrimination based on sex by the theater.
@YUNoJump, quick question would we not hear shrill screams of racism and sexism if this was reversed? All i want is a non- hypocritical society. If its ok for a all black screening it is then ok for an all white screening with no blacks. If its ok for an all women screening than it should be ok for an all male screening. But thats not the society we live in.
@YUNoJump, I think the reason people got bothered by this is because if a similar event was held for white men, it would've been accused of bigotry. People on both sides just need to calm down and accept the fact that people like to associate with others of similar background. Events like this honestly don't bother me, whether it's for women, men, whites, blacks, etc. They shouldn't bother anyone.
@BlazingBowman, to be fair people are screaming about sexism here, just a bit less because wonder-woman is a new step forward in cinema. However, this isn't going to become some systemic new thing where women get that sort of screening 100% of the time, so it really shouldn't matter.
@GunSupporter, how so? One is forced by law, the other is total freedom.
@Captain Magma, thank you for saying something like this. There are some black people who just harass me because I'm white, racism goes both ways. Anyway, now I'm back to the funnies
What's next? A showing of Batman with only rich people? Or just showing the Aquaman movie underwater?
@Aura The Fgt, No, a batman premier with only orphans
@CompleteSavage, That's even better.
@Aura The Fgt, don't forget superman with only aliens, or the flash with only Olympic speedrunners
@Demon King, Aquaman with only marine animals
@Aura The Fgt, showing a Batman movie just for rich orphans
@Aura The Fgt, To really stick to the theme, they wouldn't be orphans on the way in.....
@CompleteSavage, *A small boy approaches the ticket counter*
Attendant : "Sorry, orphans only."
*Boy leaves and shortly returns, blood on his shirt.*
Attendant : "Enjoy the movie!"
Now for a man only showing of spiderman, aquaman, ironman, superman, batman, antman and xmen
But nah that would be sexist.
Isn't it funny how all of the racial segregationists today seem to be black?
@Doctor Krieger, uhhhh. Have you not seen the South? Or the WH administration?
@mas2de, name one racial-segregationist policy from this administration. Just one.
@Doctor Krieger, Hell, we can start at the top! Trump himself just announced his segregation of transgender people barring them from serving their country. His transgender ban. That is segregation. Not black and white but it still is. Sorry Doc.
@mas2de, "racial-segregationist policies", not the reversal of an Obama-era policy that allowed mentally ill people with an astronimically high suicide rate serve in the armed forces because "muh feels".
You've yet to name one. Stop wasting my time.
@Doctor Krieger, really dude? And that sounds a Hell of a lot like a segregationist policy. Show me a straight shooter, an actually decent person without Giant gaping holes in their moral code in the Trump administration.
@mas2de, you're trying to dodge the question and move the goalposts.
Be honest and name a racial-segregationist policy from this administration. You acted as if it was a given, so should it not be easy to do so? Again, just one.
@Doctor Krieger, You set the goal posts. I scored, but you don't like it. Bullseye, right where it was set. It is what it is. So here's another set. Steve Bannon is a documented racist but he doesn't make actual policy. Trump's attempted "Muslim ban" is an unconstitutional racial segregationist policy that the Trump administration has written and rewritten which when employed Did stop people from coming to this country entirely based on religion and what country they are from. The countries that were majority Muslim that got a pass? Those were that had Trump properties in them.
Trump and Trump's administration's rhetoric, while not law itself, Does influence law and Is a basis for policy. Not much racist or segregationist policy Is in place because some people in office see a spade as a spade and vote no on it.
Trump, his cronies and "friends" are rich tycoons and racist and immoral aholes. Don't defend them. They're big kids, they can defend themselves and suffer any consequences.
@mas2de, We're all done here for now. Okay @Doctor Krieger,
@mas2de, Islam isn't a race, you dumbass, and his travel ban is perfectly constitutional. There's a specific clause allowing for it, many presidents have done it in the past, and the Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of it.
Also, it stopped people entering based on nationality, not religion. The ban covers less than 2 percent of the world's Muslim population. It targets countries with states that are supporting terrorism and/or that have a high degree of radicalization.
Again, one racial-segregationist policy. Name one.
You didn't score anything on the goal I set, you moved the posts to "muh transphobia" and then attempted to steer the conversation away. Stop trying to weasel out of it.
@mas2de, no, you still haven't given an example, you slimy fücking cretin. We're not done here.
@mas2de, another thing which the doctor hasn't mentioned, is that while people complain that Countries trump has interests in aren't affected by the ban, they forget that Trump didnt actually come up with the list himself. the Obama administration did, based on countries that seemed to have the biggest terrorist threat. In other words, that argument is pretty futile. And surely if Trump wanted to ban Muslims he'd at least have banned the countries with the highest Muslim populations, not some insignificant ones.
Casual racism at it again
So she is saying: racisim is bad, let bring back some segregation?
@Caligo, I wish they would
Mfw cant we just have entertaining things without ppl like this turning it into a social issue. Like srsly these are the same ppl who turned the super bowl into a political racial event. I doubt these are even the ppl who feel the brunt of racism, cuz they never associate themselves with the opposite race in the first place
Also, by this logic, I think we should instead have a Wakandan only showing. No americans allowed.
But srsly sex and race are two totally different things. We arent trying to bring the sexes together and make ammends, we're trying to do that race
Aquaman with only fish!
Can we talk how thats a tweet and the reply is from facebook
What is the protocol for the Pink Panther, then?
@Empshok, everyone naked.
@CynicalSirr, but...and I realize that somewhere, an idiot will be triggered by this...what if they have brown skin?
@Empshok, everyone is pink somewhere!
@CynicalSirr, okay, okay...but...and I realize that this sounds crazy...what about the Hulk? Or Chuck Norris? (he does not permit pink to exist on or in his person)
@Empshok, take them off the guest list?
@CynicalSirr, um...well, that might work for Chuck Norris, because he wouldn't be where too much pink exists, but the Hulk would probably be a little upset. And historically, that's been said to be bad.
@Empshok, fill a huge balloon with pink paint and say "hulk smash" and he will break it and get pink paint all over himself.
Andy do you have a permit for that savagery? No?....that's okay have a good day
I really don't see the problem with this. If it's a single showing that caters to the minority being represented in the movie, I don't have issue. I also wouldn't have issue with a man-only viewing of superman. As long as its only one or two showings outside of normal show times, i don't find it discriminatory at all. You wouldn't say a few showings of Spiderman with closed captioning a and intended for a deaf audience to be discrimination. It's the same thing to me.
I can't stand it when a group tries to out victimized the other. That's why we can't get stuff done.
Greatest. Comment. Ever.
@TheHippie52, it's a name. There is no right or wrong.
