last jedi i am having some issues with. princess leia flying through space? really?
@This Guy Fvcks, in a vacuum with it's insta-freezing properties...yeah
@Elmato, how dare you question it, you guys are just being a toxic fandom
@Sexy Homunculus, next thing you know people will be calling Rey a Mary Sue just because she mastered everything by panting hard and scrunching her eyebrows together for 10 to 15 minutes. They must be man babies. And racist. And Nazis.
@This Guy Fvcks, it’s a space princess duh she can fly and beat Luke in lightsaber training
@This Guy Fvcks, Luke did it to make Jacen Solo think he died in legends so he could sneak aboard his ship. Star wars has never shown someone freeze in space, and in fact has shown clones struggling to breathe and writhing after being vented. Rey is a dyad with Kylo, so is it so hard to believe that she is channeling her abilities through him? She didn’t start using the force or a lightsaber till after her first meeting with him. Then she met Luke and Leia and actually got to have some experience practicing. Sorry, I just feel the bandwagon has been around too long and that the movies don’t deserve all the hate.
@NightShift Janitor, yeah but they said they're so close in the force because of the great history between the Skywalkers and Palpatines. A history that consists of their grandfathers meeting and fighting 1 time and their parents never even meeting. Not exactly a huge "history" to base groundbreaking force powers off of.
@Bushy Brows, their grandfathers were master and apprentice though, that’s real history
@Bushy Brows, perhaps as a result of “Snoke”’ creating a force bond between them?
She’ll never live that down
@megamanx181x, I think she got it better than Ryan Johnson did
@Bad Boi Jesus, yeah, Kennedy bungled things from ignorance/stupidity, Johnson did it from spite. He’s a terrible person, she’s just a moron.
The new star wars are fine.
Not spectacular, not atrocious.
If they survived jar jar binks, they can survive foaming at the mouth fan peeps.
I'm a g1 transformers fan, believe me it could have been MUCH worse for you star wars fans
@InsaneAnimeCleavage, Transformers has had some really rough spots on its journey from then to now. I still die a little inside whenever I remember the joke in the recent movies where the constuctocons have "wrecking balls".
@InsaneAnimeCleavage, “Just fine” doesn’t start off a trilogy by deleting 95% of the canon.
@Marida Cruz, I die with all the causal pedophilia, rape, and sexual harassment jokes michael bay thinks are funny.
@Sparks 1911, it doesn't delete 95%of the cannon
@InsaneAnimeCleavage, oh, but they did. Look it up, they flushed everything but the 6 main movies and even then they retconed palpatine’s death and killed off all the Skywalkers while making palpatine’s line not only survive, but take everything the Skywalkers had. Total train wreck.
@Hot Coffee, most casual star Wars fans haven't seen the clone wars, or rebels, so it's hard to shove in the ghost or Ashoka in there without people going WTF.
In the force awakens, it's clear that the Skywalkers are legend, with Rey and Finn being amazed at Han solo, and Hans response "yes it's true, all of it" etc showing that even on backwater planets the legend of the Skywalker brings hope to those with none. Rey continuing the name is to bring more hope to the galaxy
@InsaneAnimeCleavage, no need to include obscure characters, though they certainly would have done better if they had, but KK and JJA explicitly stated that all the previous licensed books, comics, etc. were no longer cannon. The story of Luke, Han, and Leia was established a well loved. They had families and the Jedi order was growing as well as the new republic. All that is gone now. All that is left are broken dead characters and the Palpatine family.
@Hot Coffee, the Skywalkers died with Leia, but with Rey rejecting her unknown family tree and the dark side the palpatines died with the emperor. Her adoption of the Skywalker name ensures that the hope Jedi can bring will continue. They are peacekeepers, not soldiers.
The same way when anakin turned to the dark side Vader killed anakin ( from a certain point of view) so too Rey Skywalker killed the last palpatine and embraced the light side.
@InsaneAnimeCleavage, but again, Kennedy and Abrams got rid of 95% of the canon. While it is true that most people barely knew it existed, the fact they did is a slap in the face to long time fans who did. I find it hard to accept the new movies because I grew up on the books and such. Stories and characters that I enjoyed reading about were suddenly gone.
And the new movies just feel like lazy writing and directing, like they didn't care as long as it was flashy.
@InsaneAnimeCleavage, I see your point, and I don’t disagree that there is an attempt to fix the train wreck of the last Jedi and leave things on a hopeful note, but that doesn’t excuse the utter failure of storytelling that 7, 8, and 9 are, nor does it make up for the butchery of the characters of Luke, Han, and Leia.
That said, I don’t want my disgust with what has been done to the Star Wars universe to be take as an attack on people who like the movies. I am happy some people were able to connect with them. That doesn’t change or lessen how disrespectful and distasteful these movies are to the larger Star Wars legacy.
I recommend reading the Thrawn trilogy to get an idea of what could have been.
@RogueKnight, your last sentence defines JJ Abrams career in its entirety. Well said.
@Sparks 1911, I think I speak for a very large chunk of their target market when I say “what cannon?” Is it ain’t in the movies, it doesn’t exist for most of the audience.
@Nellybert , you’re definitely in the majority, but there was no need to do what JJA, RJ, and KK did to the minority. Ironically, the minority is the group that spends so much money, that tasty tasty cheddar, that Disney craves and they’re the ones who got shjt on. Those people are not spending money on Star Wars anymore.
tl;dr - jokes on Disney, they killed the goose that lays the golden egg.
Way to blow things out of proportions but ok...😒
Christ the salt is thick in here.
Who is that?
Aw come on guys it could be worse. She could have been responsible for.........c'mon guys help me think of something worse.
@spongeblade, not scientifically possible
What if bankruptcy was the point all along?
Okay I’ll finally just say it and let the chips fall:
Lucas was racist with the prequels. The Nemoidian aliens, Jar Jar, Watto. All broad stereotypes. Nobody asked for midichlorians, either for that matter.
I didn’t mind Episodes 7-9. They were a stand-alone trilogy yet connected to the rest of the series as the other two trilogies were.
Honestly I loved finally seeing more female roles in Star Wars.
My ultimate gripe isn’t a popular one though: I wish we’d seen more Jim Henson aliens like from the OG trilogy. Not a lot of people are talking about that.
I’d also have loved for either the prequel or sequel trilogies to use more Ralph Maquarrie designs.
I highly await the Obi-Wan series!
