This is how I very much feel about the ending. Just be a Palpatine for goodness sakes. Still enjoyed the movie though.
I dont get why this is such a big deal. The movie made it super clear why she chose that over the other name.
@Thatbright, people just like to complain about anything and everything
@Thatbright, the issue for me is Im 100% done with the skywalker story, and I was wanting these new movies to finally tie off the family and get us somewhere else, but at the very end they basically make her in the family as well. Also I think Rey accepting her name with its dark past would show more strength than taking the skywalker name
@TwitchingJacob, I get that, but I think it was still a smarter move (SPOILERS AHEAD for anyone who hasnt seen it, even though the meme spoils it too) because the lady she spoke to is easily old enough to remember palpatine, and if she was just like "yeah I'm a palp lol" that lady would have freaked out. Skywalker is an unknown name at this point, especially to most outside of the new republic or jedi so she is effectively giving herself a new start
@Thatbright, it’s called fanboys the diehards
@TwitchingJacob, Kylo should have been the true main character. *spoilers*
I feel having him returning to the light side was great but would have been better if Rey had killed Palpatine to save her friends. This would cause Kylo to have to take her down, giving a better twist of fate as the one whom helped him find the light side has turned to the dark side. It would have lead to a better and more heartbreaking moment than when Kylo died saving Rey. Then it would have been about the rise of Ben Solo (skywalker), which makes more sense than Rey just taking the name.
@Baby Cthulhu, agreed, Rey slipping to the dark and being brought back by kylo would have been an honestly amazing plot
@Thatbright, I actually liked how they wrapped it up.
@Thatbright, I’m with you on this one. Just like I wouldn’t want to have the last name of Hitler, I fully understand why she wouldn’t want her actual last name. And it makes sense that she’d want to take the last name that honors three of the most important people in her life who have died.
@DietAdam, I kind of actually breifly hoped for "Solo" for this reason because it honored the saved Ben and Han and Leia and also aptly described her life as in the origin of the name itself.
@SimonPetrikov, it was a fun movie that’s true. Despite how the trilogy went I had a blast in the theatre. I’m mainly happy that I got to see Star Wars in theatres, which I thought wasn’t gonna happen in my life time.
@DietAdam, Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it. There would of been more honor and power in her turning Palpatine name into one if hope and light so future generations could see that out of evil good can be created. It would prove that no how evil your past or heritage, an individual can be good, the future can be good and the past is just that the past.
@fettman1138, that sounds good and optimistic and stuff, but there’s no way I’m trusting some guy I’ve never met with the last name of Hitler. And people will remember the bad stuff a lot longer than any of the good stuff. That’s why we all know about the wars in our history but very few of the good events.
@mans laughter, ah, Solo would work too. I was thinking Skywalker because it honors Luke, Leia, and Ben (all Skywalker blood) in addition to continuing the legacy of Skywalkers doing good for the galaxy (since most don’t know Anakin was Vader).
@DietAdam, History is written by the Victors, I'm pretty sure that whatever the new Republic is gonna be from now on could easily spin the story of the evil emperor and the girl who wouldn't follow in his footsteps.
Hitlers decedents never stepped up on a global scale to condemn his actions, they just tried to disassociate.
She changed her name the same reason there aren't any Hitlers in Germany, Austria, or Argentina anymore
I walked out halfway through this movie. I had better fvcking things to do with my life.
FYI, I have a membership with the theater I went to, allowing me three movies a week. They didn’t get money, just a ticket 😉
I thought this movie was actually quite good. This coming from a guy who read the majority of the novels, watched every movie two dozen times each, enjoyed the prequels, and has looked up how to speak wookie.
In case you were wondering; George Lucas made the Wookie sound by mixing a bear, a lion, and a stranded walrus. Yes, specifically a *stranded* walrus.
For those interested, officially Disney has renamed Anakins lightsaber as Rey's lightsaber. They say it has appeared in nearly all of main series... as belonging to her.
Get Fvcked Disney. The Katheleen Kennedy Trilogy was the worst thing to happen to starwars.
@Samblob, I won't pretend that I'm that invested in Anakin as a character, but that's still really stupid. Aside from Rey being an egregiously poorly written character, that lightsaber shouldn't even be in the new trilogy. The last we saw it before TFA was when it fell down a massive chasm after Vader severed Luke's hand. Seriously, where did they find that thing?
@Proactive Citizenry , also it blew up in the last jedi. Did they just rebuild it or something?
@dr brain, no clue. But, I don't really care either.
@Samblob, ok, ok I get your point but hear me out.
To me that is Luke's saber not Anakin's. I was raised with it being given to Luke, used by Luke and Lossed by Luke. I understood it belonged to his father, but an entire generation grew up with it as Luke's. In the movie, comics, games ect. It belonged to Luke.
When the prequels came out, it was suddenly Anakin's and he only had it for one movie and some of the clone war series. Now it's Reys?
It is Luke's Saber, lest we forget the origin of its introduction to us.
@Samblob, considering she buried it as his next to Leia’s, I don’t think you’re correct.
@Samblob, What really pisses me off about Katheleen is that when she was making the trilogy, she claimed there was no source material to base the movies off of like as if the original and prequel trilogy, every novel ever made, comics, and The Old Republic never existed.
I honestly can’t tell whether she’s deliberately ignoring the official lore of the SW franchise and making up her own shjt or is just being a massive idiot.
Thanks for the spoilers you jerk! At least wait a few weeks
Wait what she says this???
@megamanx181x, someone didn't watch until the end lol
@FullMetalAlcoholist, still haven’t seen it but I’m surprised this wasn’t a bigger deal on the internet
@megamanx181x, It’s literally the very end of the movie. *spoilers* she buries Luke’s and Leia’s sabers (why the fvck is Leia magically a Jedi now?) in Tatooine at Luke’s old farm home (y’know, the place he hated and was desperate to leave) then an old lady randomly appears and asks what her name is and she says Rey Skywalker. Utter horseshjt, really. Feels like p!ssing on the legacy of characters who actually struggled and grew into legends to just have their sacrifices made redundant in a story about someone who fails at nothing and never grows as a person.
@TheRatMan, sigh the trilogy that was supposed to tell one more story of the skywalkers and it didn’t...
@TheRatMan, This trilogy was shat out by a idiot who allegedly claims there’s no source material while ignoring all the novels and both trilogies.
@megamanx181x, She literally buries the Skywalker legacy in the sand of an abandoned farm only to then claim the name as her own and stare off at the dual suns like Luke in A New Hope. The fact that she’s actually a Palpatine makes it feel like Sheev ended up winning. All the Skywalkers are dead and gone, the Solo family has been cut off entirely, the only family of note left alive is the villains’ who then precedes to wear the hero’s name as their own.
