I work in a low income school district (primarily Hispanic). There's this ugly trend with some parents. The very obviously beautiful/cute girls are told daily by family/friends that they are pretty and even some parents have told me their daughters are,"too cute" to do math or any other school. They are basically expected to find a "good man" and work a "girl job" after high school. The other girls (not ugly, still cute in their way/kinda nerdy adorable--- don't wear makeup) are told that they are "smart" and that they have to go to college. I've seen parents greatly distinguish between kids based on looks... cute girls get husband's, the "smart" ones go to college. I've heard this happens in rural white areas like backwoods Louisiana too,
@SchroedingerPussPuss, that really is a shame. I'm currently a second year college student (white male if that matters) and I highly value education in a woman, regardless of looks. I fell in love with my current girlfriend because she is a writer/journalist with a solid education. If I one day have children of my own (god I hope no time soon) I will push all of them to educate themselves, regardless of their appearance. After all, trust no one
@cr34syb34r, no one but yourself, that is
@cr34syb34r, trust no one indeed. Congrats on college! White male or not, College can be a struggle depending on your background. Congrats on the girl! Smart is sexy! My husband and I both had extremely poor self esteem about our looks and fell in love based on personality too. But he buys me tacos and touches my butt--- that's the real key to a successful relationship!
@SchroedingerPussPuss, it definitely is a struggle. Every semester brings a new wave of money related stress! I'm very proud of my girlfriend. First real relationship I've ever had and it's been going perfect for five months now. She and I also struggle with self image and we solve that with very similar methods. It's a good thing I love to cook!
@cr34syb34r, my husband is not attractive to younger generations... but damn will old ladies start to flirt with him! They love the "bad boy" look. I don't personally like my facial features, but he's helped me deal with my body type issues (taller, larger frame, not obese but not tiny). But as long as you two have each other, you can make it all through the bad! College money tips- see if your school has textbooks at the library. You can copy an entire textbook for as little as $15-$20. Order international versions from Half.com (especially science). The intro may be in Chinese, but it'll usually have an answer key/book that the American/British versions don't. Don't ever take an "on semester" course (like Bio I in Fall and Bio II in Spring). Take sequential courses OFF semester to get the easier professor and not be in a "weeding out" big class.
@SchroedingerPussPuss, Looks fade; education lasts a lifetime.
@SchroedingerPussPuss, that last sentence, Amen! What more do you really need than tacos and butt touches?
@SCBeauty, false, if you don't use it you lose it. Education at least, I haven't been attractive for long enough to start adding it to my username lol
@SchroedingerPussPuss, guys, this whole thread of comments ( though it started off on a bummer note) restored my faith in what I thought was a world of shallow relationships. My husband is 17 years my senior and has long hair. Most people think he's a hell's angel. He's a big cinnamon roll who loves Mozart. Long story short: I fell in love with him based on his mind and and personality. Am glad to know I'm not the only person who does that any more.
Sorry for the weird digression. Here's an equally smart and cute cookie. 🍪
@SchroedingerPussPuss, *takes notes* -Remember to touch the butt.
@SchroedingerPussPuss, what does Hispanic or black or white or dot Indian have anything to do with it? It happens to white girls where i live, predominantly. Oh, and I'm an alien from zorgon if that matters. You've "heard" this happens? Um, it does. Just as much if not more. It seems you categorize yourself into a category, so categorize on with your bad self.
@SchroedingerPussPuss, oh, and where i work is (primarily white), because you know, that matters and all for some odd reason.
Greetings from backwoods Louisiana!
"Why are cookies smart..." huh?
@joshin u, some midwestern folk call clever people a "smart cookie"
Tough cookie? I thought I heard that before...now I'm questioning everything. 🍪 🤔
