I’ll root for any American team in any sport because ‘Merica, but otherwise I don’t give a shīt. And when they try to politicize it I care even less.
@Jolee Bindo, this is why i stopped watching NFL when they were kneeling...i came here to watch football...not a protest
@MMSieBreeze, Amen to that brother! I’m a fan of the Titans but they suck.
@seeUpee, i remember when they were the oilers
@MMSieBreeze, yeap back till their late nineties. I still have a shirt in my closet in prestige condition from back then. Looked huge as a kid on me but good now. Everytime I put it on everyone wants to talk to me about the oilers Ahahaha.
@Jolee Bindo, asking for equal pay when your team wins more games AND brings in more revenue than the other team is not being political. It’s being correct.
@K1l, do the bring in a larger revenue? Looking year by year, 2016 was actually the only year in which the women’s team generated more revenue from games — $24.11 million, compared to $22.24 million for the men. In 2017, both teams brought in about the same revenue at $14.61 million, and in 2018, the men’s team brought in $13 million compared to the women’s $12.03 million. The discussion may be different if we want to discuss individual players, but then that's a different matter since they are private contractors.
@Jolee Bindo, I refuse to root for them because their most outspoken members are arrogant jerks who have no respect for their opponents or fr our flag.
@K1l, there were more issues than pay being discussed.
@Finndogs, I dont see your point. The women have brought in the same amount (sightly more money in the last 3 years combined $50.8 mil to $49.9 mil) but the players make waayyy less. On top of that they have outperformed the men’s team and yet they dont even get equal compensation per player.
To be clear, I really dont give a damn about soccer and I think that athletes in general make way more money than they probably should, but the fact that the women make far less money than the men’s team despite bringing in equal revenue and playing better is pretty fvcked up.
Hell they even hold two of the top 3 largest television audiences for U.S soccer games (one of them being the #1 highest) - and that’s without the same level of marketing and advertising that the men’s team gets. Also, the women’s jersey’s are setting record high sales (for U.S soccer) for both men’s and women’s teams. So it’s not even an issue of “nobody even cares about women’s soccer anyway” clearly soccer fans do.
@K1l, The American Womens team is a stand out from the rest of womens national teams. They shows how well a team can do when invested in properly and they are a example to all sports...
Sadly womens football (or... sigh... soccer) isnt quite up to a high standard yet. It will get better I belive, never to the standard of mens but still.
Then the crowd screamed "equal pay". I mean they would get equal pay if anyone cared about women's sports
@Elmato, my thoughts are if you want millions then you bring in billions. They want millions of dollars but they dont even make in an entire season what the men bring in 1 game
@tmo0792, that’s not true, the last three years the US Women’s soccer team brought in more revenue than the Men’s US soccer team.
“That's according to audited financial statements from the U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF) obtained by The Wall Street Journal. In 2016, women's games generated $1.9 million more in revenue than men's games. From 2016 to 2018, women's games generated approximately $50.8 million in revenue, compared with $49.9 million for men's games.”
The women have won more championships than the men’s team and are still getting paid way less. They even hold two of the top three largest television audiences for U.S soccer games, one of them being #1.
Mad cuz bad
But men's soccer is fvcking awful to watch. Every five minutes someone starts rolling around on the pitch like their leg's been chopped off and bîtching to the refs. Women play a so much more enjoyable game
All these parades and viewing parties in a bunch of cities were no one caring I guess
