Yes it’s a sin, but we are all sinners. We’re all tempted to different sins. Christians try to be Christ like, repenting from sin, all sin. But since we are not Christ, and therefore not perfect, we sin. Romans 3:23 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”
@Blargetha, also half those things aren't sins unless you are a Jew. Paul said we dont gotta follow that old stuff anymore.
@Blargetha, What about being gay makes it a sin?
@Kenji Setou, it’s in the Bible numerous times, and it’s only lust not true love. And I know it’s cliché but it’s true, it’s Adam and Eve. God made man and woman to fit together perfectly.
@Blargetha, except for all the biological flaws, but go off I guess
@Kenji Setou, there are all kinds of weird arbitrary rules in the bible that mostly have to do with the culture of the time. I don’t usually live my life around works of fiction, so it’s safe to just ignore most of it
@Blargetha, but what about "bros before hoes"?
@InsaneAnimeCleavage, that’s just a given
@griffinstorme, like not cutting your hair or shaving
@griffinstorme, well you can think it’s fiction but the Bible is corroborated by numerous historical documents and by archeology.
@Blargetha, I agree with you that we are all sinners, but the reason that I have a problem with homosexuality is that when people are gay, they are constantly sinning. Whereas I may have a problem with lust, I am fighting against that urge and slip up every once in a while, which is forgiven. With them, they never stop sinning as they are living in that world of sin constantly.
@Blargetha, you do realize that the bible is basically one of those "based on true events" stories where they use one or two facts then make up every other aspect of the story right?
@Captain Magma, evening thinking about it is a sin, when you give in and have those thoughts it’s a sin. Same for homosexuality. I didn’t chose to be tempted by this sin of attraction to women but I am, I try to not give in, I don’t feed the sin by thinking about her.
@Blargetha, So homosexuality in the Bible is frowned upon because it goes against what God wanted (men and women)? I mean if a sin is just defined as "going against the will/intent/desire of God" then sure I guess it could be a sin, but like, there's not really anything bad about homosexuality. Lust, on the other hand, I can understand as being both bad and a sin. However, not all homosexual relationships are founded upon lust. I'm curious as to why God apparently is only supportive of straight people as opposed to gays, because "I said men and women not men and men/women and women" isn't really a good way of determining what is good or bad, even if you are God. Essentially, the "Adam and Eve" argument is just like saying "Because God said so" but nothing is ever true/good/bad just because someone says it is, not even if it's God saying it.
@d3smondTheMoonB3ar, have you read and studied the Bible and supporting proofs? I really recommend Case for Christ by Lee Strobel.
@Kenji Setou, God is God, life begins and ends with Him, His word is law. I can get why you’re skeptical and why you’d just dismiss it but this is what I and a lot of other people firmly believe. But I will say this, “Anyone who hates a brother or sister is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him.” 1 John 3:15, never have hatred in your heart for someone because they sin differently than you.
@Blargetha, His word really isn't law though, the reasons behind His word are. If God's word truly was law, then it would be possible for God to say "killing kittens is how you get to heaven"but uh, I'm hoping nobody would actually blindly follow such a ridiculous command. Now I'm guessing you likely would refute such an argument by saying something along the lines of "God is all-good and would never command such a thing" but that's another topic I don't want to get into, plus I don't really care for this discussion lasting too long, so I'll just advise you to think harder about what you believe and why, and if such things are truly worth believing in your opinion. Have a good day and thanks for the discussion!
@Kenji Setou, thank you for the discussion and for keeping it civil, doesn’t happen often these days. Good day to you
@Blargetha, I’ve read a lot of “support” for the bible. I used to be a very hardcore Christian, and I’ve studied apologetics (including case for Christ and a creator). Strobel’s books do seem very convincing to Christians because they sound science-y, but in truth they just dance around the point. And Desmond is right. A few facts of the bible are true, but most aren’t corroborated by any historical or archaeological evidence
damn, shes got a point. I guess im going to be a atheist now.
@Click To Login, yupp that's how it happens. Just takes you by surprise like that
@Click To Login, she convinced me. Who knew a few characters on Twitter was all it took
The real problem with modern institutionalized faith and homosexuality is not that they hate the gays. In fact, most institutions are nothing but welcoming to homosexual members. The problem arises in that homosexuals are supposed to just cut themselves off from sexuality and become completely celibate while straight members of the same faith bang away like a set of drums going down the stairs. It's sort of evil and punishes homosexuals for something outside of their control. I'm not a man of faith but if I was I can tell you I'd be hella pissed at god for making me gay and then telling me I can't have sex because of it.
@Cl3v3rN1ckn4me, I don’t think we should really sit back and say it’s even okay for them to say gays should be celibate. Christians also said for hundreds of years blacks and whites shouldn’t bang and used the bible to justify it.
They can have their faith, but it’s still retarded and homophobic
You can't sin of you're not religious
To be fair, masturbation isn’t actually mentioned in the text. It’s one of those ‘read between the lines’ sort of things.
