Tobey Mcguire is still always going to be spider man to me.
@Global Gym , he was a fine spiderman. Tom Holland just happened to be better
@Global Gym , I have yet to really like any of them, maybe it's just the story I can't connect with or something, but Tom Holland earned my respect for who he is as a person so
@18bluecat, yea, well that's like your opinion man. At least to me when I think spider man I'll think Tobey.
@Global Gym , I hate Tobey Maguire. I've always hated something about his face.
@MrPuffNStuff, fair enough
@18bluecat, Agreed. He fit the actual role of Peter Parker better.
@18bluecat, after Spider-Man 3 I lost all respect for him. Andrew Garfield was horrible but Tom Holland is the best for the role.
@Global Gym , Tobey was a great Peter Parker, Garfield was a great Spider-Man, Holland is the first I feel does both great.
@Global Gym , you mean the same guy that cried and bitched about being Spider-Man all the time? Eh. He made Spider-Man look like a chore rather than something he really wanted to do. At least Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man made it feel like he wanted to be a superhero
@Global Gym , I can see why people like him but honestly I never really liked him or those movies they felt too much like romantic comedies but hey that's just me
@K1lgore, right? I thought so too
Aww back when the mary janes and the aunt mays looked like they were supposed to. Before diversity.
@BlazingBowman, I'm ok with Aunt May being younger and more attractive. Also Kevin Feige confirmed Zendaya's character isn't going to be Mary Jane
@Sexy Homunculus, she should look like her comic book counterpart otherwise whats the point of having material to base the story off of. Why not make spiderman a 7 foot tall 39 year old black dude with an afro whos super powers are to conjure fire.
@BlazingBowman, that's true however this is the third time Spiderman has shown up on film (it's basically a reboot of a reboot) and since the characters have already been portrayed that way doing it a third time would seem kind of stale at this point. I was really surprised at first they made Flash Indian but honestly now that I think about it if they stuck to the comics and made him a white football playing jerk that would've felt pretty cliche. Although I will say Mary Jane Watson is a very iconic character and if she wasn't a white redhead then I would be pissed. Fortunately it looks like Michelle will be her own separate character, even if she does want to be called MJ
@Sexy Homunculus, no they should stick to the source material. The only reason they didnt is so the director could virtue signal to his progressive high class friends about how diverse his movies are. And by your logic than spider man being spiderman would be stale so why not give him the power to fly make him green, and give him purple hair. But its still spiderman.
@BlazingBowman, I guess that's true. It's just that this is the third incarnation of Spiderman to come out in the past 15 years and if they kept everything exactly the same it would just seem worn out by the time we got to Spiderman: Homecoming (at least that's how I think it would feel to me). If they waited 30 years to reboot Spiderman like they did with Superman in Man of Steel then it'd be great to go back to the original source material because at that point the audience would be ready for it. I mean they've been doing the same thing with James Bond for much longer and for the most part it's been alright. As long as the main character and the important side characters are handled well that's the main thing I'm concerned with. But hey you're entitled to your own opinion so feel free to disagree with me
@BlazingBowman, I don't think they changed it to be diverse, I think it's more realistic this way. Most high school bullies aren't the popular good looking jocks, there typically kids that work more on insults and more mental bullying, like how flash was in this movie. It would also make sense that the academic team Peter was on would be more diverse. In most shools nowadays, it's mostly indians and asians that are on those types of teams. It also makes more sense that aunt may was younger, first of all, Peter in this movie was 15, so if aunt may was in her 50s, she would've been late 30s/early 40s when Peter was born, which would've been the same age as her sibling (one of Peter's parents). I think it also gives her more of a big sister role, which is a nice change-up. But obviously they can't change Peter Parker or spiderman as a character because he's such an iconic one. But they can and should change the world and characters around him as time goes on.
@BlazingBowman, Also lie Homunculus said: This is the third reboot. If they did the exact same thing it would be boring. Even if they just change up Aunt may and who Peter's friends are, it'll help it not get stale.
@K1lgore, yes it makes sense that the cast is 80 to 90% black or non white that is exactly how american demographics break down. They did it so he can brag about how prgressive he is and how progressive this movie is. And that is the only reason. Flash couldve been the way he is in this movie without being an indian, mj didnt need to be brown. They did it so they could virtue signal and that is all.
@BlazingBowman, What are you talking about? Most of the cast was white. Nowadays, most schools are pretty diverse like how it was in the movie. Especially the group that peter is in, in most schools, it's mainly indians and asians that do the best academically. So the group peter was in was fairly accurate. And "Mj" isn't Mary Jane, that's been confirmed. If anything it's just a tease. Also, why is it such a problem that it's diverse? It's not like they changed any major characters or anything. Peter, Aunt May, and The Vulture were all still white. The only one they changed was Flash, but his character would've been exactly the same if he was white. So, why not change it? Besides, I don't know if you know this or not, but Nick Fury in the comics was originally white, but they changed it for Sam Jackson. Are you mad about that? No? 'Cause diversity or race doesn't matter, if they're black, brown, white, purple, green it doesn't matter. If they play their part well that's all I care abou
@K1lgore, are you kidding like 5 people in the whole movie were white and 3 of them were barely in the movie. Amd mary jane and the flash arnt main characters get out of here. And yes i am mad about that but atleast i see why they did it. Samuel jackson was a good actor an iconic actor and played his roll so good that the fans wanted it changed to his likeness. I hate it when they change characters the comic book industry is dying because of your diversity. Theyve litterally killed off iron man the hulk, thor, freaking spiderman in the comics and replaced it with a diverse crowd. And its killing marvel because of it. They didnt bother giving them their own interesting stories they just essentially replaced the characters. Look thors a girl now cause that makes sense, look iron mans a black teenage lesbian now how divers, look hulks is asain see how progressive marvel is why arnt you buying our comic books you racists.
@K1lgore, i guess my biggest problem with it is that it wasnt done naturally theyre doing it with political motivations and not in the interest of good story telling.
@BlazingBowman, What's the big deal? The diversity in the movie changed nothing about it. If ever single character was white, the movie would've had the same outcome. All that really matters is that Peter was the young, quick-witted, awkward teen that he's always been. The movie did well because it was a good movie. So what if it's diverse? If it doesn't affect the story whatsoever, why not? I honestly didn't really notice or care that it was diverse, as long as Spiderman was spiderman that's all I cared about. If you want to ruin the movie for yourself by worrying whether or not flash was indian or if the academic team had more asians in it that's fine, but just saying, from a objective point of view, it didn't affect the story or even any of the characters in any shape or form.
Also, I agree that the diversity in the comics is a little much, butcan you blame them? After so many years of writing there's only so much left to do with certain characters •continued•
@K1lgore, It may help with coming up with new ideas and storylines. Also, the comic book industry including marvel is dying for a plethora of other reasons than just the diversity, mainly due to technology and that just the super hardcore fans buy comics anymore.
@K1lgore, yeah i guess but the biggest reason of all is that theyre p!ssing off their loyal fanbase via replacing their most iconic and loved superheroes not for story reasons but for political ones. Miles morales is simply a black spiderman. Theirs nothing much that seperates the two they litterally killed spider man for a color swapped version of him. And it wasnt just the skin color swap either in the movie they constantly brought up radical leftwing politics into the movie. They cant help themeslves everythings got to be about the oppression olympics with these people. They brought up slavery like 3 times in the movie for no reason.
@BlazingBowman, I honestly remember nothing political in the movie, nor do I remember anything about slavery. I might not have caught it or maybe I wasn't paying attention at the time, but could you give an example?
@K1lgore, like at the washington monument one of the girls on the trip brings up out of nowhere yeah this thing was probably built by slaves. For no reason she just shoots that out.
@BlazingBowman, Oh yeah, that was kinda dumb lol, forgot about that. I guess it helped show that her character was a smartass, but they could've used something else
@K1lgore, tgere were probably a few other things ive forgotten aswell. I think their was a mention of police brutality in a blm kinda way. But its been like 2 weeks since ive seen it so i dont remember. Their were alot of otger just kinda stupid parts of the movie for sure. Wasnt that well written either.
@K1lgore, well i gotta get ready for work seez ya
@Ferrari Fireball, when Mary Jane smokes Mary Jane
Its peter parker
Still better dancing than Spiderman 3
Anyone know what the last part is?
