@Just a doctor , Depressing? Wouldn't it be worse if they either refused condoms or knew nothing about them, but had sex anyway? Say what you will about teens having intercourse, but I'd rather they do it safely than do it without realizing the potential consequences (STDs, pregnancy, etc.). If anything, I'm more worried that the gay guy thinks he doesn't need to use a condom (even without the issue of pregnancy, diseases can still be transmitted). That just demonstrates why teaching safe sex is needed.

@fetus meatus, it's been proven time and time again that teaching abstinence causes higher rates of STDs and pregnancy. There's nothing shameful about sex or sex education and it needs to be taught in schools, as it is also probably a good idea to give away condoms in schools for teens who will do whatever they want anyway.

@fetus meatus, Just as The Puppet Man and jainybear said, abstinence-only education is not effective. There will always be teens who will disobey, so we are better off taking steps to make sure they stay safe.

@IAmALittleUpset, technically, lesbians still need to use protection. They're just called dental dams. Pretty easy to make out of a normal condom though.

There was a state or a city (I'm not sure which) that provided free birth control and teen pregnancy dropped by like 40% I can undestand if you don't want to promote sex but promoting safe behaviors is never a bad thing.

@Titaintium, Colorado passed out free birth control and rates of teen abortion dropped by 40something% (because they weren't getting pregnant). Perhaps we're talking about the same thing?

@CaitiieBuggs, yes that was it, thank you very much. Even though it's different from condoms. It positively effected sex/pregnancy issues and I think providing condoms would be benifical as well.

@Titaintium, I agree. Preventative measures are worthwhile- be it condoms or pills or IUDs or what have you. To me it just makes sense. Birth control is cheaper than babies, in multiple ways.

In junior college 3 years ago my anthropology teacher had a bowl full of them by the door and in the middle of class this random guy came in and took a handle and then starred at the class and walked out and my teacher was like at least he's being safe and continued on class

You could just practice abstinence and avoid all STDs and pregnancy. Unlike condoms that can break, abstinence is 100% effective every time it's practiced.
