Those are issues too. I wonder though if girls are objectified more though if you consider the types of rolls they get in all movies, not just shirtless action movies and sex related films like Magic Mike. I'm not sure if Objectification is the issue so much as just representation of different types of women. From what I can tell, you basically have to be hot by society's standards to be a girl in a movie, but you can be a pretty ugly guy and still be a star or major character in anything.
I consider myself conservative. I'm no feminazi. I just think we swing back and forth on this issues, instead of exploring the complexity of the issue. All of them are issues though. Guys have all kinds of unfair expectations on them, just not sexual ones, as much, as I can tell.
@TomPholio, You know it’s kinda arguable that the extreme male body standards are worse than the female starving yourself is painful and terrible but one you’re down there it’s far easier to maintain for longer stretches of time meanwhile all those bulging muscles are literally half a day away from killing the actor
In order for real social change, men don’t need to identify as feminists, feminism needs to die. It’s inherently divisive, has run the course of its usefulness, and shields actual bigots from being exposed for what they are under the guise of “I’m just advocating for the poor oppressed woman”. How did that one person in the image who said dudes should be feminist not see the inherent ridiculousness of “this thing devised for women’s rights that has regularly pushed forward actual man-haters to the forefront of its movement as beacons of what they believe in is also for you dearest man that significant portions of my movement despise.” How often do you see feminists in the limelight EVER push a men’s rights topic. I haven’t seen it once.
@DesignatedElfWhipper, Not to imply women’s rights need to die mind you. I think they both need to be considered in equal measure, and feminism is the worst thing for that.
“Guys, feminism is for you, too. It’s for for all of us” is downrite the most modern sentence I have ever heard.
Its so ridiculously stupid it almost makes sense (don’t flame me. I agree that body dysmorphia is a thing everyday humans face. Same with me)
But that.... that’s dumb ass shjt.
Maybe call it.... peopleism or something ?
Why do I care this much ? Why does that bring me so much annoyance? Arrg.
Imma go drink juice.
@Rodestarr, I know what you mean but man that’s the wrong way to express it. Humanism is the term but many people feel that it downplays the plight of women who in all fairness have been suffering longer. But in general life sucks for everyone these days.
@Rodestarr, The label of feminism was, at its core, to bring everybody up to the same standards. That can easily mean for men as well as women. Since the label's been sort of corrupted, a few people are switching to the term egalitarianism, but that doesn't roll off the tongue so easy.
@Rodestarr, you may have been terrible at verbalizing it, but you're right. This shjt is actually depressing, and the fact that people want to separate into groups and say who has it worse is sickening.
@Rodestarr, I think the word is egalitarianism.
@Rodestarr, Feminism always has been and always will be about women. It’s literally in the name.
Egalitarianism is where it’s really at. It doesn’t prioritize anyone, it can’t be twisted or misinterpreted, and it’s not exclusive to gender.
@Rodestarr, feminism isn’t just for women, that’s why we call it feminism, men should be okay with their rights being named after women. That’s what equality is about, men not being allowed to just be men. Why is this so complicated?
@ThePandaPool , most were grouped with no say in the matter, some groups do have it worse. To be a Syrian Women in Lebanon is synonymous almost with being a prostitute (often forced and trafficked), so we can say some groups are at much larger risk to inhumane conditions.
@Factory BOY, I'm talking about within our society, not the nutjobs in the middle east and third world countries.
@Rtas Vadum, I prefer equalism for the term. Doesn't have any gender connotations like feminism or meninism (counter-term I've heard), doesn't have historical baggage like egalitarianism, and it's easy to understand the tenets just through the name: equal rights, equal responsibilities, equal benefits, equal burdens, equal expectations.
FeminismIsCancer— ALL feminism— and it is cancer to everyone equally.
There are no exceptions of any kind.
@Cave Dweller, Middle East? Japan?
Women are equal to men.... Thor fight black widow!
Them :He was abusing her!
Now, thor has lost....
Some of the movie examples are of people playing superheroes, which are supposed to be at or above the human peak. So it makes sense that they need that look. I’m sure they could use cgi now or something to get to that level of the look instead of killing the actor though
Hot take: almost all of these physics are actually attainable for the majority of the population. People just prefer bitching instead of admitting the reason they look the way they do is because they are to lazy to change it. Also, Hollywood has zero idea how to dehydrate properly, half the time the actors have to much fat for dehydration to even make them look better anyway (like in the Witcher). Want to look like them? Get to 12-15% bodyfat, and go to the gym and actually work hard, eat right.
@4th Hokage, bud i work out on the daily, eat right, run about 20 mi/week and i still have lower back fat, and i dont have a six pack. im built like a jacked tank i grant you, but dont be so naive as to presume that because you’re genetically predisposed to a particular metabolism and physique that you attained it through hard work and force of will. thats arrogant
edit: not to say you dont work hard, but for most people, its just not a rational expectation
@Hoban Washburne, definitely not genetically predisposed to looking ripped. Skinny fat most of my life. It's great to hear you treat your body well, but to lose fat, you gotta be in a caloric deficit. Sounds like you aren't. Which is fine, your choice. But the fact is that if you eat less than you burn, you'll lose fat, and get mind numblingly shredded if you can tolerate how miserable it is. Don't know why I bothered posting this fact though, anyone who really wanted to lose weight would. All of this is of course excluding people with things like thiroid (however you spell it) issues and such.
@4th Hokage, thyroid. and due to very fun college budgeting (i have $6 in my bank account) i eat about 1500 calories a day. have for the past month/month and a half. im used to leaning down. my avg over the summer was 1200 intake, no breakfast, cottage cheese and blueberries for lunch. i keep track with myfitnesspal. that on top of the running id mentioned and i swim competitively. well, in the interest of honesty i swim club, so about D3 level. now again. im very proud of my body, im very muscular and i work for it. but i dont have ‘shredded’ muscle or a 6-pack and i have stubborn lower back fat. just like my competitive marathon runner father did. ill say that again. competitive marathon runner. hes run 26 so far, won a few, and still retains some fat. because we’re built big, 6’1” 200lbs on my part
@4th Hokage, and dont confuse my disagreement with hostility, i think a lot of people think the way you do and im not trying to be a dick. but if you’re ever bored, (and idk feein in a gay mood) google some shirtless navy SEALs post-BUD/S. a lot of them are absolutely shredded. many of them arent. many of them have some fat, dont have a pack. and i dont think you could honestly look one of those men in the eye, the way they train, and tell them to just work harder or eat better. im sorry for the rant man, but you’re dead wrong
@4th Hokage, ya I sympathize with those actors but I’m kinda with you on this one. I managed to get a pretty serious 6 pack with the standard bulk and cut cycle, and the real way to look shredded is to actually overhydrate yourself so your body retains less water and to cut out carbs and drain your glycogen for a few days. Not nearly as hard as they make it sound, just takes determination and discipline
@Hoban Washburne, I don’t believe this for a second if you are 6’ or taller and sedentary you would lose weight on 1500 calories, let alone remotely active. You are looking at ~3k calories a day minimum for maintenance
@Joeyc1, 🤷🏼♂️ its what i eat its what i weigh. been living off of chick peas on tortillas with salsa and tuna for over a month cuz its dirt fvcking cheap. your body has defense mechanisms for times of low caloric intake, and if you’re fit your body performs cardiovascular exercise far more efficiently than a novitiate runner or swimmer
Feminism is about equality. Some women with extreme views (not equality) call themselves feminists online and are very vocal about their radical ideas. I know, and that’s gross. But!! That’s not feminism, and it’s a very small group of people that are like that. *Actual* feminism isn’t a crazy man-hating idea, it’s about being equal. It’s just named feminism because historically women have not been the ones in power, and so it has been women’s rights that need to be established to “catch up” to basic rights everyone should have. Just putting it out there, cause the term egalitarian is def better than nothing, but it ignores the history of women not having rights and makes it seem like all feminists are those loud radicals online. Instead of trying to rename feminism to egalitarianism, can’t we just talk about what feminism actually is?
@Carmen Sandiego, oh also yeah of course making actors dehydrate themselves for a look is horrible, hollywood creates contortions of all kinds of people, tells us we should be like them, and then they and tons of other industries make $$ off of our insecurities that we’re not (bc of course we’re not, it’s not realistic). Big oof. Women def know the unrealistic body goals struggle (or at least I do) and it’s good to talk about how this kind of thing affects guys, too.
@Carmen Sandiego, +10 points to gryffindor for anyone who reads these yay
Just look at what Christian Bale has done to his body for movie rolls. Can’t be healthy.
Whoa, whoa, whoa ... how are the comments not about Natalie?!
How do you squeeze juices out of someone? And should it be filmed on a couch?
maybe we should stop caring about what hollywood does for a few years and watch them die like brad pitt’s organs
How did I not know this until now
