Wait, this could work out in our favor. If its disbanded, then those sweet jets are gonna be up for auction and it will be our only chance at getting A-10s
@that1german, commercial fighter jets? I love capitalism
@YourProudFather, how will I utilize that 30mm? I'm thinking either a marshmallow launcher or install a high powered laser for the best rave ever
@that1german, Well seeing as the Air force has been trying to get rid of them for a while now (congress wont approve funding for a replacement yet), probably wont have to wait too long anyway.
@Kierkegaard, We thought the F35 would phase out the A-10 but it turns out people like the BRRRRRT gun
@Captain Zenu, we thought a lot about the F-35, which ended in a massive waste of money in the order of billions. The BRRRT is great and all, but the platform it fires from require absolute air superiority and minimal air defenses. Good for the war on terror, bad for near peer threats that the gov’t wants us to prepare for. Airforce would rather put their money into a plane that is capable of taking care of itself in contested airspace while also providing support for ground forces. Something like the new variant of the F-15E that is in the works.
To address the headline: No.
@Hot Coffee, actually yes. The Air Force is a huge waste of money and resources, and it should be absorbed into the navy. It’ll be more cost effective and less bloated that way since the navy already transports aircrafts and has a hand in their maintenance.
These people shouldnt be allowed to breed
Back in college, I used to live just outside the USAF base here. I actually really missed the sounds of the jets when I moved. Whenever I happen to be in the area, I like to take a moment to listen to the jets flying around, it’s very nostalgic.
Why would we get rid of AF. The control space and cyberspace.
One could make the argument they are more important than most of the branches of the military if not the entire federal government.
Not to make the Army / Navy guys mad...
What in the wide world of sports did I just read?
