The first set of remakes were a dumpster fire, though.
@Scottles, I disagree. They had their value. Garfield was a good portrayal of a geeky, awkward, yet charming Parker, and the story they were chasing could have been great. However, the second film was pretty irredeemable in a lot of ways. Same Dehaan was a pretty good Harry, but his goblin was just fuggin weird. Same with Electro. Jamie Fox was a TERRIBLE casting choice. The fact that they actually went bold enough to kill Gwen, though, did earn my respect, big time. I’d always said of the originals that if they wanted to fold Mary Jane into Stacy’s role as his first love, they shoulda killed her in the exact same way.
@Berntley, I think Garfield was a good Spidey but just god awful at Peter Parker, he wasnt really dorky at all, just kind of a skater kid that everyone said was a genius but he never showed it outside of making web shooters. Hell, he had to YouTube how magnets work to fight electro. The lizard was botched imo, with the super generic dual personality stuff and no family. Lizard has to have a wife and kid, it's just part of his struggle. Also he looked like the goomba from the super Mario bros movie. Gwen's death was well done, and Emma Stone was a good choice, but overall I think they dropped the ball.
@Scottles, That’s all fair. He definitely wasn’t the Lizard from the comics, either in legacy or appearance, but I still enjoyed the movie for what it was, personally. And in fairness, other than understanding some of the work that Norman was doing (just enough to trigger Harry’s daddy issues), Maguire showed essentially no scientific aptitude. He wasn’t a genius, or a dork. He was a loser who didn’t want to be, and that was almost all his character was built on. So many of his moments just literally make me cringe. The poetry, the dancing, the “cool guy” walk. The more I think about those movies, the more problematic they become, haha. I will say, the first one was pretty spot on.
@Scottles, I thought his Peter Parker was a pretty good portrayal of Ultimate Peter Parker, he was significantly cooler then his mainstream counterpart. But part 2 pretty much lit the whole thing of fire.
@RedKel23, That’s kinda what I was thinking. I’m just not well versed enough on the different comic iterations of Spiderman. Just the main line stuff and some off shoots. Enough to know when the movies really bungle it.
These are the reasons they shouldn’t have remade spider-man
@Exotic Butters, THANK YOU!
As a die-hard Spider-man fan I still find the first two movies to be the absolute best. 2 is just so effing good to me. Like if you asked me what the best Spiderman movie was I'd say into the spiderverse. But if you asked me what my fav was I'd say Spiderman 2
@Pete Parker , I really like homecoming, largely because of Michael Keaton. Easily the strongest, most relatable, villain performance in any of the spider man movies.
@BearDaniels, Michael Keaton was so fvcking boss in that movie, im.so glad he didnt die cant wait to see more
Ah yes, the full spectrum of Tobey Maguire sex faces.
But those were remakes.
Who remembers the awesome Spider-Man movies from the 70s?
Spiderman or gay porn?
These are all my O-faces
All I can remember is tobey crying then his emo hair

@StiffWood, for some reason funny pics doesn't display the greater than or less than signs on my phone, so I both agree and disagree with this comment
@OfficialNyarlathotep, o no. Well i think raimie films are best. Tobey and tom are good all around. Just not the same spiderman. Garfield was just a hipster in spider jumpsuit
