Who would win - some of the strongest viruses in the world, or one needle boi?

Like seriously, polio? The number of serious cases of polio in the us is negligible, and yes that is among anti-vaccers. And the number our cases of polio among people who got the vaccine is non-zero. I'm sick of this cult-like mentality that a couple of botched studies that didn't even have proper control groups is the end all be all of knowledge and that anyone who questions it is crazy. This is some 1984 shjt just like climate change. The truth doesn't need protection from scrutiny. If you're right, you don't need laws or social engineering to prevent people from even questioning you in the first place.

@Captain Swordsman, I make a sarcastic meme about anti-vaccinators and you find a way to get angry because I used a virus that isn’t as relevant as it once was - congratulations. I honestly can’t understand what you were trying to say since it goes all over the place, but let me say this: the whole “who needs vaccines” or “vaccines cause autism” mentality is stupid and spits directly in the face of proven science, endangering the lives of children who don’t get a say. Also, I don’t know what you were trying to say about climate change, but it is real and has been proven countless times over.
-
@pirey, except that I never said that nobody needs vaccines or that vaccines cause autism, I said that people like you with your coat like mentality that even questioning or testing it is somehow a bad thing are what's ruining science. Another cult tactic you people do is to read something that's very clear and to the point like what I posted and claimed that it's all over the place and doesn't have an actual point to it.
-
@Captain Swordsman, What coat-like mentality? I simply made a meme about anti-vaccinators and you're trying to lump me into some "you people" category with "cult tactics" that directly responsible for ruining science. I told you I couldn't understand the message behind your reply because it didn't make sense to me - that's not a cult tactic, that's a lack of understanding. You argued how the cases of polio in the US are negligible for both vaccinators and non-vaccinators, but what's that argument even for? Of course the number of cases in the US is negligible now, because the vaccine was SUCCESSFUL. Why do you think smallpox no longer exists in the world? Because vaccines eliminated the virus entirely (save bioweapons). So naturally, with the polio vaccines eliminating most cases of polio in the world, the chance of contracting polio (without a vaccine) is obviously going to be much lower than say, in 1970.
-
Do you just go around looking to argue with people? Seriously, you just come off as hateful and angry. You accuse pirey of having cult tactics, but then overgeneralize him into a group of people that he clearly isn't a part of - it sounds like if anyone has cult tactics, it's you. And what you wrote is not clear or to the point. First you talked about polio cases not being prevalent in the US anymore (which is how vaccines work), then you talk about the botched autism studies. What is the point of that sentence? Of course the study was botched, because it has no scientific grounding and was not properly conducted at all.
-
Are you saying we need to reexamine the "vaccines cause autism" study because there's merit in questioning everything? Clearly not, because you stated "I never said that vaccines cause autism", so what's the argument you're trying to make? Also, your comment about "If you're right, you don't need laws or social engineering to prevent people from even questioning you in the first place" is inherently wrong. The ill-informed will always find a way to question what's good for them, and then you end up with people not vaccinating their children, which is why certain things need to be required.
-
How am I supposed to argue with someone that makes things "very clear and to the point", but leaves out 90% of the information? There are countless botched studies with improper control groups, but you didn't specify which one, so I had to make an educated guess based on the relevance of the conversation.
-
@Captain Swordsman, which botched studies are you referencing? I would like to read them. Mostly because I’m fairly certain that they don’t exist and that for every one “botched” study, there are hundreds more that clearly show vaccines to be safer than the alternative... hence polio no longer being a main concern for the general public.
-
@Captain Swordsman, “what about when polio first happened and most people who had it didn’t even know they had it due to the lack of symptoms? Did vaccines cause that?” What the actual fück are you talking about? I don’t understand what the critique is here. Are you saying that vaccines caused people to know what the symptoms are for polio?

@EVILdrPORKCHOP3, I mean taking the US off the gold standard, setting prices to try and influence the market, and having an affinity for John Kayenes’ ideas who thought massive spending and debt was the best way to improve the economy. The only thing that brought us out of the depression was selling weapons and supplies prior to the US entering WW2.
-
@Captain Swordsman, lol, welcome to funny pics. Where if you don’t agree with the mob on something they jump down your throat. I had a conversation about a year ago about how I didn’t believe that the climate change we are seeing now was necessarily 100% human caused and oh god you think I killed everyone of them. How I brought up studies showing the temperature was changing faster during the last little ice age well before the industrial revolution and I was voted down to oblivion. This my friends is why I don’t talk much on this app anymore.

@CMNDR BUbbles, is that not keynsian economics? Massive spending on the war is what got us out of the depression. We are lucky that everyone else was destroyed so we were the only players for some years. However, there was a clear upswing in the economy before the war because of FDRs work programs. And he did not get us into any massive debt.
-
@EVILdrPORKCHOP3, the upswing was not because of war spending. The factories started pumping out supplies to sell to Europe. He massively increased the size of the federal government which did cost money. If you contrast the depression of 1929 with the depression of 1920, the market was left alone and it was over in about a year and a half.
-
@CMNDR BUbbles, they were not even close in scope. The depression of '29 is the worst economic situation the United States has ever seen by a large margin. And it was caused by the bad practices of the banks. Investment banks made bad investments, the capitalists overproduced, and they drive the market to the point that without interference,it would have collapsed.
-
@Captain Swordsman, well not a guarantee, but a higher likelihood depending on the area in which they live. Also, that is not what this photo is really saying. How I see this meme format is that it more states of what is going to be destroyed by that which is in the back. If someone who is not vaccinated comes in contact with these diseases, their life is going to be miserable, but does not state that they are guaranteed to get these diseases.

@Captain Swordsman, Come back after you’ve had time to clear your mind and then properly articulate your words in a manner that’s more understandable. As an outside observer what you’ve said makes little sense. Its extremely difficult to discern what your arguing for or against. It may seem like a clear argument in your mind. But I can assure you that the words you are using to explain yourself and the thoughts you are having do not align well enough in a manner as to be coherent to other people. Trust me on this subject. Its a problem I use to have. Where I understood perfectly what I was trying to say but did a poor job of forming the words in a manner that properly described the point I was trying to make or explained the thoughts in my mind. This is currently your problem. Please proof read and think about how your words will be perceived. Ask yourself if its clear to those with no knowledge of the subject you are proposing. Once you do this. Civil discussions are easier.
Oof, heated debate this pic.
