If you're just starting out dming may I suggest the ghost of saltmarsh book. Reading and running the adventure in there holds many for the tools you'll need later on.
For specifics I don't mean the entire book.
The title of the adventure is called ghost of saltmarsh.
If you'd like a primer, read on.
If you're a player, this is the hook, bring this up to your dm if it sounds right.
The players are at a harbor town, they may be long time friends or complete strangers, no problems ether way.
The players hear a few warnings here and there from the bar patrons. Something about the house outside of town that's looking over the coast.
The owner of the house hasn't been seen for three years, and the house has gone into disrepair.
It's now been long since abandoned, since no one claimed inheritance. But each time a new owner gets settled in they never come back to town.
So the people have messed with it letting it rot were it stood.
That was until a few weeks back, a local drunk came scrambling
@That one lurker, into the bar. Shouting about a specter that nearly killed him.
Over the weeks as most tall tales go, the old fisherman's been making a spectacle of the story, just to get more drinks.
But if there really is a spectre up on that old mansion, then if anybody got rid of the ghost, they would surely be compensated handsomely.
“We do not grant you the rank of master.”
If anyone on here plays Pathfinder 1e, I'd highly recommend the Sphere of Power/Might third party system.
It allows for much more unique and focused character builds. You gain talents that can be spent on gaining new abilities or improving your current ones.
I'm playing an Inquisitor that uses a pistol to shoot bear traps at people and can jump-scare enemies by teleporting near them. Very fun.
