@Salem, not for lead roles in films often the director or writer has a specific character in mind and will actually kind of headhunt actors by either sending them a script or contacting them about reading for them. Open cast auditions are usually for small roles and low budget films

@Runnin with scissors, I didn't say it was an open casting call, and I did say typically. Even if they have someone in mind, they usually still have them audition for the lead. I just read something that said Tom Hiddleston initially auditioned for Thor, and was cast as Loki instead.

@Salem, ya but the point is they seek people out for roles not just first come first serve meaning someone decided to call Tom hiddleston for the role but found him more appealing in another. For the role of hank Williams I'm sure someone called him and offered him the role in competition with a couple others but it's not like anyone can audition. The whole point I'm making is lead role auditions are exclusive and are almost not auditions and that is typical not everyone gets an opportunity that maybe should have
