I was just annoyed about another live action remake
@FaceGhost, same. Disney loves using existing fairy tales, Shakespeare, etc for their stories but as soon as the stuff they write is about to become publically available they made another garbage live action remake to try and keep their IP away from others
@FaceGhost, they have all been garbage
@FaceGhost, Oh yeah it's absolutely going to suck
@FaceGhost, ex-f*cking-actly. I'm sick of hearing "Hurr durr, if you don't like, you're racist!"
Uh, no, I'm just sick of soulless cashgrab reboots. If I wanted a live action Little Mermaid, I'd watch the movie that did it first and did it better...Splash.
Honestly I’m salty. Ariel was the first red headed princess and as a fellow red head, I feel jipped. And they did the same freaking thing to my favorite teen book series in the upcoming TV adaptation. Ugh. What’s with the hate on gingers. We may not have souls but we do have feelings. Sorry, rant over 😬
@Flutterby, you should be, especially because gingers will be extinct in 25 years.
@celtics313131, what are they all going to die from?
@glewis007, the sun
@Flutterby, there’s so many examples of this that it’s past the point of coincidence now. They are deliberately replacing red headed characters with black characters for some reason.
@Flutterby, as a fellow ginger I feel your pain.
@Flutterby, they should have a ginger play Tiana
@CaptainCrunchyCvnt, I agree, there's so many that it's very obviously not coincidental. I honestly think they see it as easy to shift from orangey-pink skin and red hair to light skinned black people then eventually fully black in other SUPER unnoticed cases or something lol
@glewis007, deez nuts
@Kounat, that’s my theory. But I can’t even say it because I’ll be deemed “racist” or a conspiracy theorist. Look at Starfire in Teen Titans! It’s just so irritating.
@Flutterby, They cast Jimmy Olsen in supergirl (normally a redhead white kid) as a giant athletic black dude. So funny to me. Horrible show.
@Flutterby, isn’t she still a redhead? Black gingers are a thing
What's genuinely crazy has been the Chinese reaction to this movie. They've been using ai to make her white
@Bad Boi Jesus, oh wow! Lmao!
Bruh, the costume is bad, the water scenes don't look like it's even oceanic, and the story went from finding true love, which is a good portion of the story's motivation both in the original Danish story and the 1989 Disney interpretation, to "don't need a man" boss-girl slop that every Disney property is using constantly.
Having a doe-eyed, pretty girl hired specifically to just be a black Ariel with honestly mid-acting ability is only one piece of this sh¡t cake that even normies and die-hard Disney fans aren't buying anymore.
@ptitty1231, and if anyone really wants to use race as a shield from criticism, it's fűcking telling that corporations don't believe that black Americans aren't deserving of their own roles and stories created but instead pandering rehashes of European stories with already established characters. Princess and the Frog was already a great interpretation of the tale, and only failed due to being released during the Twilight craze and the Avatar movie
@ptitty1231, I believe they hired her because she is a good singer, which makes some sense, but why not find an actress that can do both? Idc either way about her skin color or anything I'm just not interested in lazy remakes of these movies. Jungle Book was good, but all else sucks imo.
No, because you are too woke, and love ruining things people enjoy in the name of "Diversity"
Disney shills posting on fp again.
@Lethal Force Man, I would just say SJW's are posting on FP again.
Except why is there a need to cast black actors in a story based off of a mythology that was predominantly caucasian? Surely there's an African story that can be told in which black actors can be cast. Not to mention that it would be refreshing to not get another reboot.
@TheKen42, that would require more thought and consideration than just recasting traditionally Caucasian characters as ethnic and Disney isn't about to spend that amount of money to come up with something original because they can just as easily save money with a diversity hire.
Diversity for diversity's sake is cancer. How about we don't twist fairy tails that we already twisted to be not nearly as grim as they were in The Brothers Grim versions and find something from those ethnically different than white Caucasian tales. I mean for fúcks sake the actual tale that the little mermaid is based off of ends with Ariel killing herself because Ursula got with Prince Erik instead of Ariel last I checked.
@TheKen42, also the one downvote you have is probably from either a downvote troll or someone who doesn't care about staying true to the original story as long as it "represents everyone equally and if you think hiring an ethnic actor/actress for it is wrong then you are racist" fúck those people if we cast a character with a white actor for a story that was traditionally black/Asian/middle Eastern/etc it would get canceled immediately.
@Slayer9200, if Hollywood were to present an 'African fairytale' they'd be hella offensive and fvck it up, the first time. - I dont trust them to do it well. We have taken steps in the right direction by focusing on the 'African Wild' with stories like Lion King and Madagascar, but local (to me) folk tales are beyond their current abilities, if you ask me.
A Tokoloshe would make for great use, though, as its an evil, dwarven type creature that can be called on for evil deeds. It drinks water or swallows a stone for invisibility , and steals naughty kids if their beds are low enough (those kids are then raised by the creature to become Tokoloshes themselves). Tokoloshes are afraid of fire and even the smell of smoke is enough to repel them. I reiterate that I do not think Hollywood can do it, but there are folk tales like this one.
@TheKen42, she had green skin in thee original tale, I want green skin.
@TheKen42, upon further research that may be false lol. Disregard
My take on this is simple, if it were the other way then it would be viewed negatively. Which means this is an example of something that only matters when they tell you it should.
Oh nobody else is going to see it either trust me. Get woke go broke.
@CocoasBro, that's the only way. Bitching and moaning online won't do it. That's what I hate about the people that whine about it. You can simply just not go see it, and people that want to see it will. It may make money, it may not, either way vote with your wallet.
Ok now make Black Panther white and watch the same exact shít happen
@Guy Fawkes, Blade would be a better example, Black Panther being black is quite literally part of his character as an African King, not as much for Blade.
The reaction to a white Blade would be vitriolic and hypocritical though.
Her skin color doesn’t bother me at all. On the other hand, her eyes being about a foot apart… chick looks like Sid from Ice Age.
@RepostSniper, I would rather it be her being a deep sea looking fish, transparent skin and what not, just make her fvcked up looking and the deal is to make her pretty and human.
Like a horny angler fish looking girl
And I think we all know what the response would be if a fictional character traditionally played by a minority was cast in a remake as a white character.
“Didn’t watch it either, though.”
Who cares?!! It’s just a movie!
