Hence why I'm going into a STEM career myself instead of complaining about how it's male dominated.
@Bowie Stars, Not to mention you'll make more money and have a better lifestyle since you're diploma will be way more useable than a gender studies diploma
@Bowie Stars, I wish there were more women is STEM. It's lonely here...
@TriangleTesticles, that depends on where you look. Why don't you do some research on what these people actually do for society?
@Saxamo, because complaining on social media isn't helping anybody. Please, by all means, name at least 3 meaningful careers that require you to have a degree in gender studies.
@ryanasauras, how are you operationalizing the word "meaningful"? Name 3 meaningful careers someone with an architecture degree can do for society. How about a fashion degree? You clearly don't understand what gender studies is.
@Saxamo, Architectural degree: 1. Architect. 2. Architectural consultant. 3. Construction foreman.
Fashion degree: 1. Fashion designer. 2. Theatrical costume designer. 3. Cinematic costume designer. And yes, 2 and 3 are similar but not the same. Different process needed.
Can you now name 3 meaningful careers that require a gender studies degree? Because the only one I can think of is analyst.
@I Are Lebo, Non-profit Program Manager, Rape and Domestic Abuse Counselor, Human Resources (companies actually seek out women's and gender studies majors to increase diversity education among staff)
@I Are Lebo, women's business training center director, minority women's outreach coordinator, public policy children's advocate
@I Are Lebo, eldercare facility administrator, yes, data analyst, campus crisis coordinator
@Saxamo, alright, cool.
Really truly, the only people who dismiss gender studies altogether are those who don't really understand what it is. Having said that, the majority of those complaining about the lack of woman in STEM fields do so without truly understanding the cause of that.
@I Are Lebo, lol all of that to agree with me - do you understand the cause of it? Because a gender studies class could explain it pretty well 😉
@Saxamo, I've actually taken some of those courses in college. I wasn't disagreeing with you, merely trying to force you to provide your side of the argument.
While I do think women's studies (or gender studies) is less valuable to society than many other course topics, I do not think it it is fair to label it as 'worthless'.
I'm a big fan of freedom, but unlike many other people who label themselves as such, I recognize that freedom isn't only being allowed to do things that I like or approve of.
Notice how you turned it around on him instead of answering the question…fuсk off.
@Trump Repellant, I answered the question times three hun. Can you read?
@Trump Repellant, he did answer the question. He actually answered it quite satisfactorily.
The truth in this one is insane
@Torq Rinch, it says "anti-fem comics" in the corner, do you really think this makes you look appealing?
@Saxamo, from the upvotes I've gotten, yes.
@Torq Rinch, #1 you got 3. #2 I don't care if you've got 3000. #3 that's not how this works
@Saxamo, *4 upvotes. I don't think you're doing anyone any favors here. It's a meme. So what if it's anti-feminist it's, not like it isn't true. This is the internet kiddo, you won't have any fun if you let everything trigger you. If you can't let go though I suggest taking your White Knight act somewhere else.
@Torq Rinch, no one is triggered. I came to this app because I was tired of unfunny memes like this and unfunny kids like you. It's sad how ill informed you are.
@Saxamo, That sounds like triggered speak to me. It would appear that you are the I'll informed one.
"Be the change you wish to see in the world" -Me after a guy asked me for money
@Good Guy Satan, ""be the change you Want to see in the world"-Ghandi"-Good Guy Satan
@Good Guy Satan, be the change you want to put in the vending machine
Seriously, what does gender studies even qualify you to do?
@Slayer9200, it's about as useful as a degree in art
@shocking60, at least the degree in art can be used as something along the lines of a curator, an art critic, or an illustrator. The only thing I can imagine gender studies being good for is replacing gender studies professors.
@Slayer9200, I think it may get you a job as a therapist
@Slayer9200, so it's as useful as a battery powered battery changer that can only change it's own batteries. Gender Studies only exist to perpetuate more gender studies professors, perpetuating it's own existence while draining the sanity and money out of other departments in higher education. It's literally the parasite of the academic landscape.
@Hotchkiz, it seems a lot like majoring in philosophy, it's good for making more philosophy professors. On the other hand it could be useful as say a minor for a psychology major who can apply it with either consoling, therapy, research, etc. Also, as a class do diversify perspectives, however, it's to take into consideration and own the knowledge as well as critic. Understanding more broad perspectives is good even if it means you can more accurately critic and argument, as a quote I once heard that I don't have exactly "you don't fully understand your stance unless you understand your opponintes stance"
@Slayer9200, comments like yours are exactly why we need gender studies majors. You people all have your heads in the sand.
@Slayer9200, SO LITERALLY NONE OF YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT THESE PEOPLE DO YET YOU HAVE OPINIONS ABOUT HOW USELESS IT IS!? FVCK YOU ALL, GO BACK TO IFUNNY.
@Saxamo, how about some examples if you are going to support your side of the argument?
@Slayer9200, first of all, gender studies is not a popular major like this meme implies. It's usually combined with a sociology, anthropology, or political science degree. People who work in those fields study how gender plays a role in societal interaction - they do research on how the fcking world works. They explain status hierarchies, power structures, and how these things affect and oppress people and intersect with other marginalities (race, class, etc.). They also recommend policy solutions for leveling the playing field so everyone has a fair shot. People in this major also have a better shot at getting HR positions, because they have a better understanding of and empathy for different perspectives. Social science is considered within the STEM fields, at least according to the National Science Foundation. This meme is dumb and so are you.
@Saxamo, I am dumb for asking a question that I legitimately wanted an answer to?
I genuinely had no idea what the uses for this degree were. I merely wanted to expand my knowledge on the subject not bag on it like you seem to think I am.
@Slayer9200, read the rest of the thread and you'll understand why it might come off that way
@Saxamo, I see your point but I feel like you got a little irrational. Sure I wasn't particularly tactful in my responses but I was still curious what it actually does.
@Slayer9200, lol someone defending gender studies acting a little irrational, now that's news
@Saxamo, forgot to add "wrongfully explain status hierarchies"
@Uranusisbig, so just keep up the sexism? Irrational would be the sorry @$$ "explanations" you're all giving - quit being butt hurt. Downvotes don't make your tiny dicks any bigger.
@Saxamo, what sexism? I don't think there is any evidence for widespread sexism
@Saxamo, and downvotes are a way to share our opinion about what you said. So stop being butt hurt.
@Uranusisbig, you don't even realize when you're being sexist. I blame your father.
@Saxamo, my father died when I was 3. And the problem is not whether I realize I am sexist or not, the problem is whether you are smart enough to prove it or stupid enough to believe stuff without evidence.
@Saxamo, but prove to me the sexism we experience in today's society, I'll wait for your response.
@Uranusisbig, lol how convenient, that's what they all say (nobody cares about your bunk family). I'm not going to explain sociology to you on effing funny pics. Take a class. I'll give you a hint: "someone defending gender studies acting a little irrational, now that's news" would make women look at you like a b!tch. I'm done, enjoy being pieces of sh!t.
@Uranusisbig, also, your entitlement is showing with the "prove to me" nonsense
@Saxamo, how convenient what? That your assumptions are false?? You can't explain sociology because you can't, not because of funny pics. Also, proof is not an entitlement, it is the only way to prove an argument is truthful objectively. You call that nonsense?
@Uranusisbig, convenient your dad is dead. Sociology is a recognized STEM field by the NSF bruh. Look it up. Proof is absolutely necessary; what I was referring to in calling you entitled was the BURDEN of proof. Why must I prove something to you? Why can't the burden be on you to prove it to me? Logical fallacy. Pick up a book.
@Saxamo, you are so narcissistic that you can't stand the truth and so turn a deaf ear to the truth
@Saxamo, for someone as compassionate as you, you surely don't care about others, only those who agree with you. Hypocrite.
@Uranusisbig, "the truth" lol the truth lies in facts and DATA, look at some before you ask me to explain sexism to you
@Saxamo, such as?
@Uranusisbig, you can start with black feminist thought by Patricia hill Collins 😉
@Saxamo, what? Why is the burden of proof on me? I didn't claim I was sexist, you did. And you didn't bring any proof. And at least learn the names of the logical fallacies, trying to sound smart?? I don't have to prove something that doesn't exist. And my dad being dead is not convenient, I wish he wasn't.
@Uranusisbig, you said that sexism doesn't exist. Prove it. With data. Not random statistics from a brietbart article. Peer reviewed research. Until then, pick up some hill Collins.
@Saxamo, you have to refer to others because you lack the ability to argue. Hill Collins brainwashed you, and I've have had read enough post-modernist sht already thank you. Again, I don't have to proof things don't exist. Data and facts are used to prove things which exist, NO ONE WILL DEMAND EVIDENCE TO PROVE NON-EXISTENCE. NO ONE SAYS WE HAVE EVIDENCE THAT PROVES THE LACK OF EXISTENCE OF SOMETHING.
@Uranusisbig, lol it's not post modernist at all, you clearly don't know what you're talking about 😂
@Saxamo, you don't have facts, only ideology, which is why you can't defend yourself.
@Saxamo, you are the one that doesn't know what you are talking about, which is why you had to refer me to the person who brainwashed you.
@Uranusisbig, I could've cited Brown as well for the most up to date review of sociological theory that explains sexism and its intersections, but again, I'm not going to explain research to you when you don't understand how research works. Someone who doesn't understand sexism exists has clearly not read any data on the subject. You can argue with yourself I suppose but I'm done. Read. It'll be good for you.
I don't get this cause the vast majority of my fellow pre-pro biology classmates are also women. I hear engineering is still a hella boys club tho. Nothing against boys clubs. I do think how we used to raise girls dissuaded them from STEM fields. But as a society we've made a lot of progress and it just isn't as much a problem anymore. So get a useful freggin' degree. That goes for the twats who major in English. Stop it. You're wasting your money.
@Nyxa, the bio/chem departments in my uni are also predominantly women.
Gender studies is literally the most useless thing I've heard of, other than fire retardant matchsticks
This repost is demeaning to women.
@Microw311, not if they understand the meaning
@DigBickAiryHanus, i read that as "not if they understand de' meaning" lol
@Microw311, *cue mansplanations as to how women just don't understand it*
im not a feminazi, i just wanted a clever way to say that this is a repost...
@Saxamo, oh my god you seriously are triggered lmao
My sister and I are part of the 6.7% of graduate women on earth with a STEM degree! Whoop!
You're all missing the point. This is not smart.
@Saxamo, downvote all you want, f@ggots, you're still losers.
