School isn’t the dumb one in this situation.
Doing your taxes involves reading comprehension and basic math. I seem to recall having learned those in school.
@makunouchi82, and when the tax code changes or there is a new form to fill out, those two skills will still help.
@makunouchi82, on the one hand yes, but on the other hand they often seem to go out of their way to make it as complex and tedious to learn as possible. Which I guess is a pretty standard level of bureaucracy for anything government run. So it's less that it's difficult and more that it's obtuse.
@Your Waifu, its actually the banks and tax companies that make it so complex. They got congress to make a law that so long as there is a free option, the IRS cannot change the way people file their taxes. They then created the free option and made it as complex and poor a program as they could while refusing to advertise it. The IRS is just as locked into the current system as the taxpayers. The IRS already has to calculate everything anyway, including for every scenario that COULD apply, they then check what you report and all other records they have to verify (lightly unless an audit of course.) They could easily send a one page paper asking if any weird situations apply (foreign earned income exemptions, business losses, etc). They even want to, it'd make fraud more clear cut and easy to detect, so people couldn't weasel out through "oh it was so complex it was an honest mistake". They just can't.
@makunouchi82, ok, but, how many boxes do you need to draw to show your work for your tax form? Common cores a thing my dude, and kids are becoming more illiterate through the generations. I mean you got kids coming out of economics believe in socialism works, I'm not quite sure systems working as intended.
I see this mentioned a lot as well as other things like "managing a budget", "paying off loans", "selecting a career"... i mean are people's parents not helping with any of these? Do you not try to learn them after you see that you are not managing it well?
@Dangerous Dan Spivey, lol nope parents are to busy worrying about doing those things themselves
@Dangerous Dan Spivey, My parents are shjt with money and we didn't have good internet until I was 19
Do these people’s parents not pay taxes?
Are y'all orphans or something?
That is why I got a guy for that
