I mean most of my teachers would tell us they don't expect us to write perfect essays in 55 minutes. It's to see if you can write clear, organized ideas or arguments in that timeframe.
Which would help even everyday conversations or arguments where if you're, say, debating about something, you can articulate your ideas well.
This kind of stuff makes me lose respect for a teacher. There is a difference between actually teaching knowledge to students and just bombarding them with work.
@Dephenistrator, what? My instructors gave ample time for the essay. And the in class essay is graded way different. If you got a horrible teacher who bombarded you with work. I'm sorry.
