Why do they get a pass? Idk I can’t keep up with the laws of PC
wE HAvE fOuRTy YeArs Of HiStorY.
Also the Chicago Blackhawks, the skins, and the chiefs. Plus other teams that I may not be thinking of rn.
@Nicol Bolas, uh, does it count for the other 2? The reason why the Redskins would be considered is because of their name WITH the logo. Whereas the other 2 have less offensive names. It's like "the Rednecks" vs "The Cowboys"
I'm asking, not correcting you cuz I honestly don't know if people are offended by the Blackhawks and the Chiefs but I know they are by the Redskins.
@OT12EXO, I've heard people complain about them but if I'm honest I don't know where they rank on the "wet blanket scale of people who complain too much". It might vary by area, and I just try to tune out the complaining because it's nothing I care to listen to. But you raise a good question.
I feel like they would be grouped the same as the Blackhawks use a similar logo and they also have the tomahawks on the jersey too, and the chiefs logo is literally an early civilization arrowhead. In my mind the dots can be connected but I don't really think these things are actively racist so not sure.
@Nicol Bolas, Black Hawk, the namesake of the NHL team founded in 1926, was a war chief from the Sauk tribe native to Illinois. Black Hawk was a badass that lead native warriors fighting for the British side in the War of 1812, among other exploits.
Anyone who assumes the Chicago Blackhawks denigrate or marginalize the Native Americans is ignorant of the history.
@JDPhi, I wasn't saying I agreed or thought that way, I was bringing up teams that I have heard complaints about over the years and was using examples of the explanations o have heard. I very much agree that we should be well informed before being ignorant.
@Nicol Bolas, sorry that it seemed like I implied you were ignorant of the history. I simply used your comment that mentioned the Blackhawks as a springboard to point out an instance where people incorrectly assume all team names related to Native Americans are as insensitive as Washington. I was building on your point, so thank you for setting it up.
@JDPhi, oh no worries man, I know that I often fail to properly articulate a point and I often end up realizing way after the fact, especially online. Appreciate the dialogue!
Because the owner of the team isn't a pussy
@Sexy Homunculus, nope, just a moron. I miss Jack Kent Cooke
@Sexy Homunculus, possibly the most positive thing about that asshole
@Sexy Homunculus, if the name can survive all this nonsense, I don't think it will ever change
Right, because getting rid of logos will MAGICALLY destroy all racism... which, lest we forget, was invented by (and exclusive to) white people!
So when are we getting rid of Colonel Sanders?
And what about the Chihuahua from Taco Bell? That is racist too.
@bowlnmike, the Taco Bell chihuahua hasn’t been around since I was a kid. And Colonel Sanders isn’t a stereotyped mascot, he’s the guy who created KFC and he chose to put his own likeness on his brand.
What's wrong with Uncle Ben's? Are people saying a black person can't be a mascot?
I don’t get it
@RollingInD1ck, I wanna say red skins?
@RollingInD1ck, the Redskins is the NFL team for DC, there’s been a bit of backlash over their name being racist. Some native Americans have come out and said they are okay with it while others aren’t, but the owner hasn’t budged on renaming the team either way. No matter what they name them they’ll probably still suck (source: I’m a Redskins fan unfortunately)
@Han cholo, just change the logo to a potato
@Tazbrum, someone, somewhere, for some reason, would still be offended if they did lol
@Han cholo, I'd understand keeping it if they had great history but you've won nothing for 28 years
