As a computer scientist... Wouldn't know, nobody will hire me right now.
@Big Bad Butterfree, as a computer scientist, I wouldn't know either, no one has hired me yet, but I've been actively looking. I'm trying to do embedded software, but I'll take anything at this point. My problem is I don't have the qualifications for many of these jobs.
@PsychedelicCow, I'm hoping for software development. I wasn't lucky enough to land an internship in college and it's really hurting my chances of things now that I've graduated. Internships no longer want me and I don't have enough experience for even some "entry level" jobs. It's frustrating, really.
@Big Bad Butterfree, @PsychedlicCow, I’ve been there, as far as recommendations keep applying (even to jobs that seem out of reach because places purposely over qualify positions to ward people off) and in the meantime work on certifications. There are different businesses that are offering contracts for people in our profession to work, that can either have high risk high reward or vice versa. Your moment will come.
@Ray213, thank you, that's very encouraging.
@Big Bad Butterfree, I'm in the same boat, I don't have any internship experience either, but I have several projects I've worked on in classes that I can promote. Recently I had a promising lead with Revature, but the financial situation wasn't viable. That's a company you could look into, they do software contracting, and they train you for 3 months before they set you up with a client. It's the training period and first year that wasn't financially viable.
@PsychedelicCow, yes, I've seen them as well and even spoken to them. Travel and a contract like that isn't ideal in my situation, but if it's my only option I might go for it.
@PsychedelicCow, honestly, apply for everything and don't be afraid to ask questions in the interview. I got my current job as an embedded systems developer by applying to a webdev position, and asking about the embedded systems the company produced.
