They... took... OUR JOBS!!!!
@megamanx181x, hey! You want to go work at Walmart? Knock yourself out, they take anyone
@seeUpee, some people do! And I stay away from them!
@megamanx181x, you want to have a fun time? Go drunk to Walmart after the bars closing time for snacks! You going to see some sh1t. Like a fat guy in a tutu. 100% serious. Me and the boys couldn’t hold ourselves laughing after he walked away that one peed himself. We made him walk
@megamanx181x, durk hurr derrrrr!!!
Cashier here, I don't give a shït about the self checkouts. In my store it doesn't affect my job at all as there's only one head cashier and a supervisor with backup who do merch. I only have issues if everyone is busy and you still insist on staying in line with your two purchases when people who cannot use sco (due to no cash or large purchases or being hella old). I've heard so many people lament over how sco's are evil job stealers that I find them highly irritating especially when I politely inform the opinionated ones otherwise and ignore me nonetheless. Yes I'm aware other stores do have cashier's lose jobs but I've heard the same complaint 1000+ times to please just talk about the weather or something else super basic. Rant over bye.
@OfficialNyarlathotep, they also fail to acknowledge how many other retailers (like their ever so precious and beloved Target) have also begun installing self checkouts. But it's only bad when Walmart does it, right?
@OfficialNyarlathotep, I’m also a cashier and I can tell you I always use self checkout unless I am getting a lot of items. Why would I wait in a huge line when I can just get it done in minutes by myself? And most people that don’t use them complain they are hard to use. These people are pretty dumb if you can’t figure it out. So many stores have them now.
To be fair, Walmart could be entirely self checkout and they would have the same amount if people working. Just the 4 cashiers are now overseeing 40 self checkouts
I refuse to ever use self checkout. Criticize me if you like, but I'm not gonna change my mind.
@ThePandaPool , calm down there crowder, let's keep an open mind here.
(I completely agree with you. ;|
@ThePandaPool , what are your reasons though?
@ThePandaPool , Ido at places like Walmart,simply because in my small southern town, the Walmart cashier's are stereotypical...Walmart cashier's. High school dropouts, drug addicted and cant speak English. I witnessed a true mental meltdown when I gave a Walmart cashier a $20 and a $1 bill when my total was like $10.85. she thought I was trying to get one over on her and make her give me more change than I deserved.
@Dongo, because they are taking jobs from people and just pocketing the extra money. It's not like prices are dropping, as a result.
@ThePandaPool , I understand that. However, self checkout is more efficient. Much quicker.
@Dongo, not from what I've seen.
@Dongo, I’ve lost track of how many times I told the damn computer to go fûck it’s self. I’d rather just wait in line
@ThePandaPool , just stay out of Walmart period.
@ThePandaPool , they really aren’t. Places like that were only going to keep x amount of cashiers regardless of those being there or not. Plus those stupid things break down all the effing time. Between tech support and installers/repairs they hire more than they “save”. Before that, the only difference was that most clerks had to be cashier trained meaning I couldn’t do my real job because I kept getting called up to cashier
@Pat Myckok, just mute it. If I wait in line, I have to wait for the old lady up front to whip out her 35 foot long string of coupons, then wait for the dude who only pays in nickels, then wait for the guy who apparently needs to stock another grocery store because they want like $450 worth of groceries, all while being helped by the angsty teenager who has to wait for the manager to do something on the computer. Self checkout, I'm through that thing in 3 minutes.
@ThePandaPool , i use them just to avoid stood waiting in a long que just to pay for like 1 or 2 items
@Dongo, unless I'm buying like 2 items and I'm in a hurry, I will always use the regular cashier
@ThePandaPool , I use self checkout because I'm too awkward to talk to people. So if I can avoid it I do.
@ThePandaPool , I use them to avoid human interaction. Oh the life of an introvert ;_;
@AlyciaFear, hopefully I dont sound like a dick, but you're making life worse for yourself. Avoid minor interactions and it makes ANY interactions harder when you have no choice.
@ThePandaPool , I understand your position, however I have literally never had a pleasant experience with a walmart cashier. I will use cashiers at target or anywhere else really but walmart really doesn’t care about standards or politeness
@ThePandaPool , If you were to abstain from using any product or new piece of technology that had been created by a machine or put someone else out of a job you’d be living in the woods wearing animal skins and eating bugs
@Jolee Bindo, there is progress and then there is just large companies maximizing profit for stock holders.
@ThePandaPool , I’d usually agree with this statement but we’re talking about having to interact with Walmart cashiers vs not. I went inside a Walmart last week for the first time in years (when I have to go I usually use their pickup service) and was reminded why I fvcking hate shopping at Walmart. Everyone working there looks dead inside, nobody has pride in their job, the lines move slow as fvck, and it’s just a depressing atmosphere. If there’s any way to get in and out quicker I’ll take it.
@ThePandaPool , I'll raise this question to you. Would you like to go back to the point in time when 90% of the population had to farm/ranch to sustain the populations food supply? Keeping in mind this would mean you wouldn't have any modern conveniences and you and your family would be highly susceptible to things like famine and deadly diseases?
@CellSword, see my last comment
@Jolee Bindo, I live near one of their flagship stores, so I guess it's just a better quality.
@ThePandaPool , okay no debate on automation ethics because they replaced a mind numbing job with a machine. You're locked in to whatever you felt once and that's it. Got it.
@Drunk Pantless Uncle, ive had this happen....and had to explain in detail...why.....like bjtch...give me a 10 a nickle and a dime....
@ThePandaPool , I'd like to hear your understanding behind this. In my opinion theese are good because they improve efficency loads by allowing people with 10 or fewer items to quickly avoid longer queues and avoid the terrible human interaction that terrifys us all. And if you're worried about the argument of robots steeling our jobs, statistics show that with every robot introduced in a workplace two more human jobs are provided. I'm Just curious not disrespecting your opinion x
@CellSword, and you're not looking for other peoples opinions and you're just gonna act like an arrogant prick like you usually do. Got it.
@ThePandaPool , like you just did
@ThePandaPool , which is why you completely sidestepped an honest debate, which is why we fight.
@Boris Johnson, I cant really speak of retail, but in industrial settings, robots by no means increase the number of human jobs. And people being terrified of human interaction will only get worse if you dont even have these small interactions.
@CellSword, sure it is. Has nothing to do with you just being another mental case like liberachi.
@ThePandaPool , "I'm right and you're wrong, but you're not allowed to question and dissect my reasoning as to have a civilized conversation about the matter", "hey panda, honest question about progress and how it can be painful at the moment but results in good things for humanity later?" "No fvck you" "thanks for being an a$$hole panda I appreciate it" "fvck you cell, you're just like liberachi" yeah that sounds about right. Have a good one dude.
@CellSword, actually jackass you got all nasty and arrogant first. But you can show more of your mental illness by pretending that didnt happen. Piss off.
@ThePandaPool , what is a$$hole ish about my first comment?
@ThePandaPool , oh nvm I see your point. I apologize for becoming arrogant first.
@ThePandaPool , I do use self checkout, if im in a bar and couldnt get with the ladies
@ThePandaPool , if you ring it in yourself, you should get 15% off, I reckon
@ThePandaPool , I'd say it also depends on how you pay. If I've got a few items I can walk up to the self checkout and be walking away less than 30 seconds later with my receipt, I just pay contactless with my phone. If I have a bigger shop, say a basket full then I'd probably go to a till. You've also got to think about it from a business perspective, they're there to make money. If all their competitors are switching to self checkouts because of how much money it saves in the long run and then be able to competitively drop prices lower they're just fvcking themselves by not switching. Yeah they might be taking cashier jobs, but that's just cashier jobs. As someone stated above the only ones seen going for cashier jobs are the ones that just need a job, not their dream cashier job and there's plenty of jobs around that can give you the same payout with similar roles. Trust me I didn't think there were like any jobs until I started actually looking and there's an abundance. It's either
@ThePandaPool , people haven't looked properly or at all, or they are too picky with jobs which they probably still wouldn't even go for a cashier job in that case. I know that too because my sister is 18 didn't do very well in school and is just looking for a job, and has been for nearly a year. She has never looked for one, constantly Complaining that she doesn't have a job, she's currently working part time at a tiny ice cream parlour in a park for half minimum wage and there's a job offering running at morrisons that I let her know about and she just said no. She has never looked, she got the current one from my mum looking and she refuses to do any sort of other job. She's also super lazy, as in lie in bed all day and just watch TV. She's not overweight or anything, just super lazy
@Jipz, I understand, the only thing I have for that is that these companies arent gonna be dropping their prices they just pocket the profit. My best example is, do you remember the last gas crisis how the cost of beef made a huge jump? The prices went from a cheap chuck steak being 99 cents a pound to over 3 dollars a pound. It was because transportation costs went up and was totally reasonable. What happened when the gas problem went away? None of the stores dropped their prices to compete. They just all keep the same prices because they know they can all greatly increase profits without needing to try to undercut the competition.
@ThePandaPool , and apparently you're petty... nvm man you go your way I'll go mine
This is what happens when you start demanding stupid $15/hr to put food in plastic bags. It's not hard work, it's not complicated work, you shouldn't be paid that much.
@MrLenny, yup, congratulations on $15 minimum wage, you're fired.
At a certain time my Walmart switches to only self check out
Oh, where to begin...
In short, it SAVES jobs, namely for all the backup cashiers who work in other areas.
Theres an unexpected item in the bagging area.
The cost of minimum wage is the culprit here, nothing more....
