@NebOlevar, but isn't the whole point of AI to have free thought. If they created AI with certain parameters it would be argued that it's not truly AI, which of course people will be offended and challenged by it to then create true AI. So in the end of its truly AI (which is where we're headed) it could very well want to destroy the human race. Which since it's still technically a robot it would most likely look at everything from statistical and future results viewpoint, and considering the way we're treating the earth, from a purely statistical, mathematical, and scientific viewpoint it would be better for the planet for our species to be wiped out which could be the reasoning for the AI to have wish to destroy the human race.

@Dreamwings, yes, but consider that people haven't truly defined AI. By a certain logic, WE are AI. We are "programmed" to react based on certain parameters and changes in our environment. So is a robot intelligent if it reacts to something like a sentient being, or is it just programmed to act like that? Just a complicated program, or a real reaction?

@Dreamwings, You make a good point but my only question is why would AI's want to destroy humans. It might seem like a logical thing to do but if they don't gain anything out of it why would they do it. It's not like they would need a healthy planet to live. Unless they some how learned emotions and had sentimental value for the earth I don't see why they would care. Also if they did have emotions then they probably would not want to wipe out the entire human species.

@Dreamwings, the idea that robots, only thinking logically (that means no morals), would kill humans to preserve the Earth implies that they value the life on Earth that isn't human more than humans themselves. Humans, who provide essentially free maintenance and upgrades (albeit to an extent limited by nature) over "dumb" wildlife that poses no benefit to an intelligence not requiring food. More likely, they'd kill all life or kill nothing. Robots with morals might kill off humans, though. But then that is a restriction of free will if the morals are not developed and accepted by the robot on its own.
