I live in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and can confirm that on the day it snowed, there were over 42 confirmed car accidents in this city alone. We endured. We survived. we shall live on being ever alert, awaiting the day when this unknown menace called "snow" returns.
@Vercin, dang... I'm from Indiana and the wind chill the other day was -30... All my school did was email us saying to "wear mittens because they're warmer than regular gloves"
@Vercin, I'm from Baton Rouge too!:)
@Vercin, schools were shut down here for almost a week. I don't know for certain if it was the wind chills in the negative double digits or if it was the snow deep enough to conceal a Yugo. I can't get out of my driveway right now because the snow is drifted hood-deep on the 250 ft driveway and frostbite starts setting in under 5 mins in these temps.
@Vercin, I get that there was ice and snow and stuff in the south and all
@Vercin, (sorry pressed send) I get that there was ice and snow and that you guys didn't have the trucks and salt like we do up in the north but the way the news showed it, it looked like you guys were treating it like the end of humanity over an inch of snow. All while we endured -40 windchill one day with winds that gave you frostbite after 7 mins of being outside, that plus blizzard conditions with no school closings.
@Vercin, well maybe if people in the states knew how to drive and bought some new tires once in awhile
@Vercin, wow, I only got 3 days off of school and at least, a foot of snow in one night here in Pennsylvania
@Vercin, mean while in michigan the cops were pulling people of the highway because it was 2 dangerous. Wind chill of -35
@Vercin, and in Wisconsin we have 3-4 inches of snow and a whopping 13 accidents
@Vercin, I'm from Baton Rouge too!
@Vercin, I live in NOLA. There was a twenty car pile up on the CCC, the Lake Pontchartrain bridge (the causeway) and just about all schools were closed. No snow, only ice
@Vercin, i live in Wisconsin and thay seems like a normal day for me
@Vercin, I feel sorry for you guys. I'm from Colorado, so I know that feel. On a happier note its like 40 degrees here! So still cold but not your guys' extreme
@Vercin, that was just people coming back from Bourbon Street.
@Vercin, WE WILL REBUILD
@Vercin, ponchatoula myself!
@Vercin, I'm from battle creek michigan and we've got almost 80 inches of snow this year
@Vercin, in Austin it iced and there were 260 car accidents
"And tomorrow in Alabama there'll be a .5% chance of light sno- SCHOOlS ARE CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE, PROCEED TO NEAREST GROCERY STORE AND STACK UP ON WATER BOTTLES AND CANNED GOODS, THE END IS NEAR."
@Cat Lauer , I live in Alabama and it was a 100% chance from 12 pm on that day.... but other than that, yes. I actually went to the store the night before to get duct tape and everyone's carts were full or bread, milk, eggs, and beer.
@A Studly Muffin, I live in Alabama too. We tried to go to the store that day just to get something for supper and the parking lot was fking packed, presumably with people stocking up for the apocalypse. People freaking out over nothing. Haha
@Cat Lauer , its funny to me how all the Northern states are making all these "omg the cold must be too mich for texas and all of 'em" when last year they had a freaking heat wave that got up to the low 90's and they flipped the f*** out. Im from texas and honestly love the cold weather. I havent worn pants or shoes at all this winter. Ive worn flip-flops and shorts all winter long. People ask me "aren't you cold?" No I'm not, and no i didnt grow up north, i just love the cold and im not affected by it.
@Cat Lauer , They had to close roads here and people were literally abandoning cars on the roads because they were so afraid to drive. They were actually trying to put dirt on the roads over the ice.... The dirt just got wet and became mud after like two cars drove over it. The best part was when the governor actually declared a state of emergency.
@A Studly Muffin, haha oh man they closed roads here too but I didn't see any abandoned cars. That's crazy man.
@YouThisReadWrong, Ha hell yeah I love the cold too. I took a walk through my woods when they were all covered in ice and it was like 28 degrees. It looked pretty awesome.
@Cat Lauer , Yeah. I live pretty close to the beach so people were extra freaked out. The people on the news just kept saying "don't go outside. Just stay in and try and be warm."
@A Studly Muffin, Ha I'll admit though I did get a little nervous when I realized that the ice could possibly damage some power lines, but only because that might mean no power and therefore no Internet. That was a priority over heat.
@Cat Lauer , Definitely. I actually sat in 1 place for a whole day and played skyrim on my computer. Needless yo say, I had the worst headache ever after that.
@A Studly Muffin, nice. Black ops II for me. And of course funny pics.
@YouThisReadWrong, Come to us. Dwell in our icy halls where you belong. Everyone does such things as you up here.
@Cat Lauer , Then theres me, in Ontario Canada. On tuesday i went to school while it was snowing in -40 Celcius. Fun stuff
@YouThisReadWrong, Ok you're trying to make yourself sound macho but in Canada try wearing shorts and flip flops in -40 Celsius... Thats what my brother does!
Just like the old pick about the east coast "earthquake." WE WILL REBUILD (and the lawn chair is tipped over)
It's been 75 and sunny in SoCal. What is winter?
@Tenno, damn... It's rained twice up here in NorCal. You lucky sob.
@Tenno, I'm from SoCal and it rains like 8 days a year and it's like 70 degrees every other day.
@Tenno, Drought drought drought, we all gonna die
XD I live in southern louisiana in St James parish and it didn't fully snowxD, the roads just had sleet on them for barely one day and they closed school Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday xD
Hahaha I'm from Canada must be summer
You guys are cute. I drove to work in over half a foot of snow on unplowed roads last week with a little 4 cylinder hatchback. Madness you say? THIS IS MICHIGAN!!
@the ice cream man, How did a hatchback make it through that? Never mind, you're just a wizard, also Michigan pride!
well I live in Minnesota (which is essentially Canada) everyone is fairly amazed at south. but seriously drive safe, inexperienced snow drivers mean lots of car accidents.
@CollegeKids, And that's the real problem. Snow is such a rare event here (I'm in Baton Rouge as well XD) that no one from here knows how to drive on snow... We can drive in insanely heavy rain fine but add a little bit if ice and THE END IS NEAR!!!
I actually live in Birmingham Alabama and the snowstorm was not forecasted for us came very suddenly and froze the roads in literally 30 mins school where in and people where at work that's why it came to be such a terrible horrific predicament for thousands. Gridlocked interstates and thousands abandoning their cars and walking miles towards somewhere warm.
West, TN- snow? What is this snow of which you speak? I've never heard of such a thing....
I live in Florida and this literally happened. We got school cancelled for three days. It was amazing. There was enough snow to make a 1" snowman :)
I live in Georgia and it took me 16 hours to get home from school; I live 10 miles from school.
Then we have Prince George BC, there's been about 4 feet of snow, normally -21 Celsius and no school closes. Canada eh?
I was working in Mississippi and I am from Oregon. People were freaked out and it's all they can talk about. I was like "holy crap I got way more snow than this in New York last week and no one batted an eye.
Yah. I live in Bozeman, Montana. We just got about 6-8 inches of snow and everything is still running perfectly.
New Orleans is where I live.
Well i live in manitoba canada (yes the place with polar bears) we have school when its minus 45 and the busses run and the elementary goes out for 5 recesses
In Alabama the roads froze over and people had to spend the night at school and work. I was stuck in my dorm for days. It's the Snowpocalypse not just because of the snow, but because the entire state shut down for three days.
I live in Fort Collins Colorado and we just got 5 inches and only a two hour delay.
Yup. Im from Louisiana and everyone was freaking out and im just casually doing nothing. Thank Jesus for those days off though.
I'm up here in buffalo saying "noobs"
I'm from Louisiana and this is accurate.... We are not built for this type of weather... a cat was found frozen outside in my yard...
High of 0F. 8+ inches of accumulated snow. Welcome to the north.
31 January 2014
Hide yo wife, hide yo kids and hide yo husband 'cause it's snowin' everywhere down here..
Snow? Lol plz. I live in California. Our schools have been shut down for wind before.
In California, we got the first rain in 57 days yesturday!
