He’s a wizard, strength is his dump stat
@WickedStyx, exactly, if my boy here did point buy, he's rocking a -1 to strength. A pull up in this situation, after barely surviving against the Balrog, would be at least a DC 15
@Runed Ram, you are ignoring that he wields a sword and staff in combat multiple times effectively. This specific situation could simply be described as a failed check. Balor in 5e is a CR19 and galdalf the grey solos it. He clearly is a 19th level wizard so his stats have been upgraded past his dump stat being below 10. His pull-up check was clearly rolled with disadvantage due to the balrogs whip attack. Nat 1 should be assumed to be a an auto fail if we assume the iluvitar is the DM in this situation. Long story short, he whooped it anyway and his DM awarded him with a prestige class level up into gandalf the white.
@Mag3rPayne, I want to play at your table , my dm killed off my dwarf cleric because he didn't like them.
I was literally texted (our DMs way of telling only a single player something story wise ) and he said "if you don't sacrifice yourself I'll tpk the group and youl get blamed"
I was shocked
@0rangeFever, ewww, were 6 stacked right now, in person local game. My younger brother is the DM doing DiA right now. He has only had an issue with one character I made, and it was a champion fighter with great weapon master, and the Charger feats. I would one shot tough enemies(but also miss a crapload of hits). After knocking down to many of his enemies, he was pretty over the PC lol. Good thing I only played him as a guest for 2 sessions lol. Anyways, sorry to hear about your DM. I would stand my ground, let him TPK the group, and then show them the text when he tries to say it's your fault. Sounds like a power trip to me.
Im pretty sure a giant demon straight from hell with the mass of the depths of the center of the earth held onto his ankles and pulled him. The fact that he held on for a bit shows you that he can do at least 1,000 muscle ups
Wizard magic can’t fix bad backs
It’s because his dummy thicc cheeks are weighing him down.
