Not trying to stir conflict, just thought it was an interesting aspect to talk and think about
Look dude, being whistled at is far more traumatizing than being at the brink of poverty. That's the first thing you learn in Gender Studies
@ptitty1231, Being groped, harassed, and followed by creepy men is also something women have to sadly deal with, its not just catcalling. If you didnt even realise the harassment women face in the first place, then you have just experienced this magical thing called ignorance. Theres more than just "being whistled at".
@BeeTheQueen, dude I'm memeing... chill
@ptitty1231, It’s also just a generalization. Most guys aren’t like that at least. One of those things that the action of a few start to represent a whole. I’m at work today and there’s some sort of dance competition going on in one of my areas. I think it’s like younger female, and they have a bunch of curtains for privacy. On my way through, not anywhere near curtains, one of the people in charge approached me and said I wasn’t supposed to be there all angry. I pointedly told her that I was assigned there, and that if it was an issue to take it up with my boss. She kept rambling about how it’s in appropriate to be in the area. I said lady, I’m listening to an audiobook and doing my job. I could care less about what’s going on in here.
@ptitty1231, I walked away and continued on my way. She proceeds to lock all the doors so I can’t go into that part of my area again. It’s just ridiculous at that point. I understand caution, but that’s why one door was supposed to be unlocked with a security guard only allowing authorized people. Took everything I had not to go off on that woman. Stuff like that just drives me crazy
@BeeTheQueen, so because a few men are terrible people to a few women, all men have to suffer for it, and all women should be given more opportunities than men? Isn't that basically sexism?
@Marida Cruz, no because women are oppressed. Men have never and cannot be oppressed. You are so ignorant
@LorienNine, bro it's my opinion you assaulted her. I have to report you
@ptitty1231, look what you started
@The Token Black Guy, I was just continuing the greentext joke!
@BeeTheQueen, Ho Ho Ho look at those dislikes
@BeeTheQueen, You really didn't deserve those dislikes, but I think both sides of this discussion have something to offer. I just wish people were more open to yours.
@Monad Vairocana, if you file everything like buying a girl a drink or whistling as abuse and harassment with a jail time sentence, then yes, the downvotes are deserved
@Richard Cypher, It was a little bit assertive, but being treated like an objective of the pleasure of others is pretty messed up. I just feel that the discussion is a bit one sided.
@Monad Vairocana, the downvotes were because he freaked out over a joke. Not because of his opinion. I think we all agree women have been very oppressed.
@BeeTheQueen, I agree with you, but the timing was a little off
@Monad Vairocana, one sided? All the world talks about is the harassment women experience. I'm not saying that they don't, but that's the actions of some pieces of sh*t and do not represent males as a whole. If it's one sided, it's one sided in that if anyone tries to argue back against this radical surge of anti-white anti-male movements, they're called sexists and racists. I've never thought any less or more about anyone based on their race or sex, and while many people do still have outdated discriminatory sentiments, many do not and should not suffer for the thoughts and actions of others.
@EVILdrPORKCHOP3, It's not always an attack on men in general. The reality is that those shïtty men make life for women especially difficult. It only takes a few bad eggs to ruin it for everyone. Those that demonize men as a whole are of course being unfair.
@tylersmileyface, Actually, based on numerous discussions I’ve had or followed on this app, there’s a pretty overwhelming consensus that women are basically blowing everything out of proportion, and if they ever have been assaulted or abused, it’s because of something they did to bring it on themselves.
@Berntley, I'm actually curious to see what others have said, could you reply with the picture id's so I could go read it myself? Just because from what I have seen it's more of "don't fake claims and don't seek harassment where it hasn't happened". But, I would like to see your argument as well.
@Bushy Brows, I assume you mean “don’t make something out to be harassment when it isn’t”. Seek makes it sound like a different statement altogether. Anyway, I don’t exactly save these discussions. I have them and move on, but the dynamic in this neck of the woods does tend to trend pretty far right from a Social perspective, at least in the way of gender and racial issues. Hell, I talked with a guy on here who was defending the use of the n-word outright, and got heavily downvoted for it. There’s a lot of denial amongst users of this app regarding social issues that either don’t affect them directly, or that they seem to be the exception to. There’s a lot of otherwise good people nowadays who will look in the mirror and tell themselves “I’m not part of the problem, so why should I care? Why should I have to do anything about it?” Which, incidentally, has become a large part of the problem.
@Berntley, I personally don't see anything different from the two sentences, but to each their own. Well, I'm sorry you've had experiences like that. I've seen it a bit differently, but that's how most "arguments" are. I was hoping to read some of these other threads, but I'll just have to look for it from here on out I guess. Good day :)
@Bushy Brows, Sorry, I’ve just learned to watch my wording a bit with stuff like that, but I also don’t like to call people out on it directly. Just pointing it out. And yeah, it’s something to look out for, but I don’t know how long you’ve been around. Honestly not familiar with your handle. But I’d have a hard time believing that you could be around here for more than a little while and not notice anything of what I’m talking about.
@BeeTheQueen, I'm a dude and I've been sexually harassed by women on many occasions. And I'm probably just a 5 or 6
@ptitty1231, If you legitimately attended a gender studies class instead of always harping on with nonsense without knowing what you’re even talking about, maybe you’d learn something about this kind of situation.
@griffinstorme, who would waste their time with some ultra left feminist gender studies class
@griffinstorme, yes it was paint by numbers, no one in my class took it seriously (including the girls so dont falsely presume anything), and we all got A's through bullsh¡t
any other killjoy comments you wanna make to sound like an online intellectual over someone satirizing the fake greentext post?
@EVILdrPORKCHOP3, unfortunately there are just a lot of assholes and idiots in the world. Ässholes who cat call, grope and harass women. Then the idiots believe pandering news stations and over exaggerating sources that then generalise all men as those ässholes. The worst part is this makes things worse for those who ACTUALLY have to go through it as they're then not taken seriously and are thrown in with rest that are just looking for attention.
@tylersmileyface, I don't want to argue but, I've never seen someone who freaked out over a joke take that many downvotes in the last 4 years I've been here. This seems to be a hot issue amongst this particular group. I bet that's exploitable.
@ptitty1231, lot of talk about one sidedness and the few representing the many... That said, guess what guys, MOST WOMEN ARENT LIKE THIS. Hell, a lot of them like getting cat called, teased, and flirted with. You guys should get out more.
These are very valid observations. I am now a little more mad at society than I already was. Thanks for the story, it was really funny.
@Awesome Naked Taco, so.. you mean, you mean it opened your eyes to something new? Whats this? Development as an individual? Are you even a real person
@Guy Fawkes, lol
I feel that apartment thing. I had the same issue.
@Trevthemighty, Do people really put up ads that say "women only"?
@AlwaysDownvotesAnime, oh yeah. I lived in DC and its a thing. Maybe it depends on the city, but on Craigslist and stuff it says women only.
@Trevthemighty, Didn't know they can openly advertise that. People would go insane if there were "men only" ads.
@AlwaysDownvotesAnime, all the time, I’ve looked for roommates on my college classes Facebook page 2 years now and I’d say more than half are females only.
@AlwaysDownvotesAnime, all the time, I’ve looked for roommates on my college classes Facebook page 2 years now and I’d say more than half of the roommate ads are are females only.
@AlwaysDownvotesAnime, I've seen a few "men only". Unfortunately it's for "bi or gay" men who "have an open mind" and "don't mind nudity". Sorry that y'all are pigs
How about not majoring in liberal arts?
@megamanx181x, better yet, utilize multiple liberal arts to create a solid foundation of the humanities as opposed to sticking to just Medieval History?
@ptitty1231, I like that!
@ptitty1231, become a male gender studies professor and teach about female privilege
As a major in mechanical engineering i can say i never had anything close to this problem
I am a feminist and I hate being privileged because I am for true equality, not like feminazi.
Ladies nights discounts are illegal in California because it’s gender discrimination. True
Wow. America sucks.... glad I don’t live there
@RollingInD1ck, thank liberalism. It caused all of this
@RollingInD1ck, At least we don't get fined for making a dog act excited when it hears "gas the jews" as a joke.
@RollingInD1ck, you think that bad try living here in Canada...our on corrected someone on TV that we use peoplekind now and not mankind...
Why I quit the field.
@faptcha, except it’s like this is nearly every field
Looks like a few people are getting pretty worked up over a piece of fiction.
Was let go recently because i whistled when some chick bought a 100 birthday cake that she had personalized. Girls walking by thought i was whistling at them. Bam. Sexual harassment lawsuit. Gooday Safeway.
20+ years ago, right after I graduated high school, I applied to a position at a crappy local radio station broadcasting our crappy local baseball team's games. I knew baseball in and out (yes you CAN steal first base) and I had actually been a DJ for 4 years. Couldn't have better credentials than me. Well, they turned me down for a dude who knew nothing about baseball and all he knew about a sound board is what he read in a book. Quote - "we just don't feel our listeners will be comfortable hearing about the game from a woman". I was too young, stupid, and dejected to see if I could do anything about it. At that point I'd had my heart set on doing radio, it was absolutely my passion. Never tried again after that day.
I don't support everything being geared for women, but we still need help not killing young girl's dreams.
@mattswife, that's a bummer to hear. I'm all for the most qualified person getting a job as opposed to the person that "fits the demographic" or "makes us look more diverse", but at the same time, I kind of understand where the radio station is coming from as far as trying to give their listeners what they want rather than "forcing", for lack of a better word, them to deal with whatever the radio station wants. I think that they should have at least given you a test run and checked their ratings afterward to see if their concern was even founded though.
Hey. Now he know how chicks and minorities have felt for the last couple hundred years.
So what's your point? I assume you're not trying to say that this discrimination is justified because of previous discrimination? Or are you just being snarky?
@PottedPlant, stupid white boi deserves it for being white, ya stupid white boi
@PottedPlant, little snarky and not feeling sorry for him in the slightest
@ios11, i mean, honesty is nice, and you're entitled to feel sorry for whoever you want, but why not feel bad for this guy? Like, there's nothing to indicate he as an individual has been sexist in any way, unless you count pointing out sexism in favor as women as some form of sexism, or if you consider all 4chan users sexist or something. I suppose you could yourself be sexist against men, which again, is your prerogative. Like, I'm mostly just curious with a response as bold as you had.
@Doctor Yak, as a white male who knows that his entire lineage has been given a leg up simply because they are white males, I’m fine with the tables being turned even if it is only a little. It doesn’t bother me in the slightest. I know when I go to switch careers in the next year or so, even with all these “discriminatory” things against white males, I’m STILL going to have an easier go at it than a female or minority.
@ios11, just out of curiosity, did you go to college? Because it sounds like you did/are.
@Doctor Yak, hmmmmm. Not sure what my schooling status has to do with what i “sound like”.
@ios11, I can't believe people with your mindset actually exist
@Chiribean, and I your mindset.
@CosmoTheKramer, Kramer. Shut it.
@ios11, well, it seems that the only people I know personally that have the same view on this issue as you have all gone through college and "been shown the error of their ways" because the curriculum requires that they accept the narrative of the white male being essentially the root of all evil.
@Doctor Yak, ah. The conservative myth that college is teaching people to be liberals. Enjoy your tinfoil hat.
@ios11, I never said that college is teaching people to be liberals. I'm just saying that, in my experience, the people that have the same idea of white privilege have gone to college. I know people that have gone to college and don't think this way, but I don't know people that haven't gone to college that think this way.
@Doctor Yak, 👍
@ios11, but I'm curious whether you're a statistic for or against my current stereotype. Because hey, if you aren't in or haven't been in college, then at least you'd be confirmation that people like that exist, which is contrary to my experience and would help me make a better, more accurate interpretation of the world.
@Doctor Yak, he is avoiding the question so I have a feeling there is a high degree that the answer is yes...
@Doctor Yak, 👍
@phalcon , 👍
@ios11, I really don't agree with your logic at all even if white males have had the advantage in the past that's in the past and should not have any effect on the present, it should just be the best person for the job period hiring for the fact that the person is a woman is sexism hiring because a person is anything other then white is racism and I really don't believe that there even is a white privilege anymore because in my union the officials all say that they're basically not allowed to hire white men anymore and if they do it has to be very very few and obviously they'd never officially say that and the first job I was on in this union I was the only white guy and they constantly made fun of me degraded me told me they were gonna work me like a slave as reparations for slavery also they always gave me the worst jobs to do I was the last one to be asked to work overtime if they even asked me. I'm not the type of person to complain or try to cause problems but one day I said
@ios11, jokingly that I could bring them up on charges for discrimination and they said that I'm white so it's not discrimination because they believed that u can't be racist towards white people which in itself is racist and even if it was I'm white so nobody would believe that a white man was discriminated against and people would just laugh at me for even saying anything. Also all of the females I've worked with get away with doing absolutely no work and nobody reprimands them because everyone is so afraid to be sued or brought up on charges but that's a whole other story. Sorry for the long rant but again I just don't agree with u because in my personal experience not only do white men not get any advantages but they actually get less.
That isn’t the “shocker”
