A: it would accelerate until it reaches terminal velocity B: it would be like having to objects attached to a regular rod; the objects cannot come closer together without altering the rod. C: either the portal gun would not be able to create another portal or the rod would break. Carry on with your pooping now.
@ unwanted, would it accelerate though? They're joined so it would be like the exposed part of a bandsaw. I don't think it would move unless you applied another force to it
@FuehrerMeister , the force acting on the rod would be the force of gravity
@ unwanted, which is balanced by the normal force of the rod resting on itself
@Green Blue Panda, as for c, given that for b the portal would remain stationary this implies that the length of the rod is fixed (obviously) so when the portal was shifted the visible section of the rod would remain in its place where it already is, once the portal is moved the rod would either be pushed out the sideways one due to gravity or remain stationary against the floor. Given that the rods length is still fixed the former "ends" would be in the middle and new "ends" would be formed as splitting a metal rod is a relatively easy to "break" the "middle" of the rod (no atomic level changes) (yes I'm sure this is old just thought I'd contribute)
@Meth SacFarlane, if a portable surface moves the portal disappears. As proven by the games in several instances.
It's to fvcking early for this kind of thinking...
@voices in your head, My brain just exploded.
A: constant falling. B: it bends. C: Snaps in half
@Cpzombie, A) would it not just be at a stand still, as it is resting on its self?
@WishGenie, no. Although it is supporting itself, this achieves nothing. An object has to be supported from the ground or from buoyancy to resist the acceleration of gravity.
@Cpzombie, *begins to clap and cheer*
@Cpzombie, B wouldnt be possible as you can't place a portal on a surface which is free to relocate.
@WishGenie, the two ends became the new middle so it would still continuously fall
@Cpzombie, Actually, C is incorrect. Due to the lack of an upper portal (it's now perpendicular), there would be a free space outside the orange portal through which the bar would pass.
@Cpzombie, I disagree with C. It has no relation to the portals, therefore, it would just continue to 'fall' through the orange portal. Just like removing the blue portal would just cause it to stand still (land).
@Cpzombie, it's just occurred to me that's that might be what you meant by 'snap'..
@Cpzombie, now you're thinking with portals!
@Cpzombie, why does everyone expect the rod the fall? The portal may or may not exert any gravitational force on the rod. Also, shooting portal shouldn't displace the object itself because if it can, you shouldn't be able to put the rod into the portal in the first place.
@Cpzombie, well when a surface moves in the games the pottal is removed and the tod would likely be severed and for the shooting a portal the severance would also apply
No, please. I just got home from school. I need a break
Step 4. Profit.
@DarkSock, *step 4) ?
Step 5) profit.
Portals can't move, otherwise they disappear.
What if you went in place of the rod and just held your feet?
@Thecoolaccount , holy sh!t...
This befuddled me
I want to change my answer. After observing a slinky, I realized that the bottom wouldn’t drop until the top fell. Everything is supported by the top so it wouldn’t go anywhere
The rods would fvck the universe. That is all
@RWBY, make it rotate then use it for time travel.
A portal will disappear if the surface it was placed upon moved, but if you did put a metal rod through and welded the two ends together and put a magnetic shielding on it... You would have created the world's first perpetual motion machine.
Prepare to be jealous and down vote me.
The ring still is the same length no matter what you do... And because it's length is the same... The portal would only be able to keep the lengths the same at that specific distance.
What the portal is is a theoretical imaginary ring... Are kind of on but not the other at the same time.
I have two theories... One, it should create a portal lock, making where one can place the portals very specific and offers few spots where the portals are just the right length.
Portals vanish as moved... And it would get trapped in the portals. The portal energy in gunmight gain mass, making unstable quantum particles, to make the atoms unstable and decay.
In the issue of angles, o would imagine the shape instead of coming out of the portal straight, it would go to the left right up and down parallel to the portals rather than perpendicular like usuall. If side by side, but since barier, make the ring physically a ring without bending it mechanically
I'm not in school don't ask me stuff
This hurt my thinking machine
NOW I MUST KNOW
What? Who the hell would solder a metal pole together? Weld it thing instead.
If one of two connected portals change its relative location, they both collapse. Duuh.
Too lazy to squint and read
Did I get here in time?
Would the pole get cut when you move the portal?
What's a portal?
AHHHH MY BRAIN!
