Random question. I'm working on a web-based fantasy series. It is planned as a collection of books that are themselves a collection of short stories all taking place in the same universe. Would anyone be interested in reading it at some point and providing feedback? I don't plan on opening it up until Jan 2020 as I'm still building the website and writing so still a ways away but just curious on if anyone was interested.
@AlyciaFear, when you do it, just throw it out there. Expect someone to criticize you, but quite a few people here will support you.
@AlyciaFear, I would LOVE to read it!! Put me down!
@AlyciaFear, I’m all for it
@AlyciaFear, hells yeah!
@AlyciaFear, I’ll read it!
@AlyciaFear, I'll read it! Also, I'm an illustrator, so if you're looking for someone to fill out pages, I can show you some of my work.
@ThePandaPool , yup, I don't expect everyone to love it and I know how people on the internet can get. I just want a test audience to read it so I figured this community was nice enough to be a good start :)
@SimonPetrikov, Yes! We'll need to get in contact! I was planning on opening it for people to illustrate and maybe even add their own stories to it in the future.
@AlyciaFear, and I use this opportunity to make sure everyone is reading "worm" also known as parahumans. Great read, and it's free.
@AlyciaFear, sign me up
@SimonPetrikov, essentially it's going to be a collection of short stories that are either main or side stories. As you complete stories the website will unlock the next one for you to read. Also there is a built in reminder/article system so if you forget about someone, just click their name in the story to get a refresher (also the articles progress with you so they won't spoil anything). But it keeps the door open for me to put photos on the site and let people add their own short stories
@SimonPetrikov, I'm still adding some finishing touches to the website in terms of functionality (such as a timeline system so readers can see where each story takes place) and a few other features, but once that's done I want to get a couple short stories done before I open it up
@ThePandaPool , I actually saw that as a suggestion when I was looking for stories with advanced magic systems. I've spent the last year almost developing mine. I've had to spend countless hours studying quantum mechanics and physics since I want my magic system to have a strong scientific basis. Of course the reader won't be required to learn it all but if they're interested I actually intend on having multiple online courses into the gritty details of it
@AlyciaFear, you being so deep into building your story, 1.5 million words of worm would be way too much of your time. The benefit of reading it would be about the power interactions. One of the things that makes it great is the loopholes and the way unrelated things can buff and hinder each other. I do look forward to hearing you've got your big start. I'm more into superhero stories if you cant tell, but I do some fantasy reading too. I just started "the first law" series.
@AlyciaFear, fvck yes
@AlyciaFear, count me in !
@AlyciaFear, count me in as well! I love reading, especially things with a lot of lore!
@AlyciaFear, I'm down. I admire your courage, and I support self made people.
@Mattizzle9, then you'll love this. I originally started it as my own lore system (think elder scrolls) so it's really more of a world novel. It spans thousands of years so you can read stories of a character, weapon etc... And then read the future impact of it generations later. You can read about the children of heroes and much more
@tha5th, I appreciate it :)
@AlyciaFear, anytime. This is, after all, OUR community and thus OUR short stories. Right, Comrade?
@AlyciaFear, ohhhhhhh that's so exciting to hear! I can't wait to get started reading it!
@AlyciaFear, have you read cosmere books by Brandon Sanderson? He has a collection of long books that have a similar concept (individual novels/series that occur in the same universe but have their own planets). I'm addicted to them. I'd love to read yours, but this reminded me of that and maybe you'd enjoy them.
@Pope Temporal, no I haven't but now I have to. Without spoiling too much my story does span multiple planets. The website will start with 3 novels. One on the fantasy world of Serethia, one is modern day Earth and the third is an interstellar alien species. The aliens have a goal of creating Ark-like worlds to diversify and protect life. Turns out they did it to humans centuries bag and thus you have humans in Serethia.
@Pope Temporal, long story short all three eventually collide, but it'll be fun because in many stories an event could happen such as a burst of light from the sky as though the gods opened the heavens, that later turns out to be an the explosion of an alien space ship
@AlyciaFear, that sounds really interesting. Keep us updated! And yeah, it might be worth checking out Brandon. He's got a number of different worlds, and although most are separate, there are some recurring characters and themes. Read some summaries and reviews, and if it sounds interesting, I'd recommend starting with the Mistborn series.
@AlyciaFear, the modern Earth story is called CASIE (Containment Agency for Supernatural Items and Entities), think SCP. And the supernatural artifacts they gather end up being things made of Xietica (the exotic particle of my magic system). So yeah. Needless to say it is a massive story hence why I'm doing it online so I can make it with a built in wiki-article system. Just click a name and get a refresher in case you forget something
@AlyciaFear, I love things like this. And if you want some illustrations I do that professionally.
@MrTuxPenguin, I would love them! I'll need to get in contact with you. It's still very much an indie project but I would of course provide credit where due, and if possible at least a meager amount of monetary compensation when I can. I always believe in helping artists when they help me.
@MrTuxPenguin, is there anything specific your good at? (Such as scenery/landscapes, people, creatures, etc...?)
@AlyciaFear, oh thank you so much. I would do it just for the exposure. After all we are a community here. I specialize in characters and people but I’ve done scenarios as well. DM me on Instagram (Mr.colalala)
@AlyciaFear, definitely interested
@AlyciaFear, you had me at fantasy
@AlyciaFear, Groovy! How do you want contact to happen?
@AlyciaFear, Sure man im down. I used to read advanced reader copies of novels for my library and write reports on them to see if they would be appropriate for the high school. Its was a lot of work but i got to read a lot of new writers books. Be glad to provide feedback
@AlyciaFear, Unless its heavy romance. Then no thank you not my genre
@AlyciaFear, I’ll give it a shot
@AlyciaFear, I’m down
@AlyciaFear, I'm interested
@AlyciaFear, I'd love to see it, I'm a writer myself in my free time and I'd be happy to offer feedback
@AlyciaFear, If it isnt too late, Id like to see this as well
@Danque, for sure!
@Donald Drumpf, awesome thanks! I'll be sure make another post when it's ready. I may open it up for a test run early October
@SimonPetrikov, we can probably do Instagram or email. Email is Admin@Xietica.com if you prefer that
@AlyciaFear, You might try putting the link in the discord when you're ready to go live.
@FalconHalo, what's the FP discord if you don't mind me asking?
@AlyciaFear, Funny Pics Discord Server. I don't know how to make a link, sorry.
@AlyciaFear, hit me up
@AlyciaFear, yes. Very much interested
@ThePandaPool , dude I read all of Worm and LOVED IT. I also read anything with superheroes and found it to be a refreshingly unique take on the genera. Couldn’t really get into the sequel series though
@Fairy Squad Mother, I loved it so much i read it twice. Lol. I understand about ward though. It's tough to get behind glory girl. Kenzi and Ashley are absolutely amazing though. I'm up to chapter 16, and i can tell you it gets way better than the start.
@AlyciaFear, write me down for first look. I am a critical storyboard fixer as a side hobby/consulting job. I would love to read this. The funnypics community looks out for one another here
@AlyciaFear, dude, sign me up, I wrote over 200 short stories for a Skyrim-like game, I'd be happy to help review them like my bro Dr. Grimmwell
@AlyciaFear, put me down!
@AlyciaFear, im open.
@ThePandaPool , thanks for the recommendation. I haven’t been able to put it down all weekend
@AlyciaFear, hell yee
@Pat Myckok, I'm really glad. Pass on the word.
@AlyciaFear, sounds cool! I'd love to read some of them!
@AlyciaFear, I’m game
@AlyciaFear, super interested
@AlyciaFear, sign me the fu€k up.
