With the IPhone 5 you can! Just open up browser, go to YouTube, look up the intended song, wait for it to load, hit the home button and then pull up the control center! From there you should be able to listen to the song!
@THE WONDER BONER, this is true, though I just pull up the control center while still watching the video, press play, then press the power button.
@THE WONDER BONER, Does this only work with iOS7?
@Walt Hartwell White, sadly I think so
@THE WONDER BONER, can also use the on/off button on the iPhone headphones after you press the home button.
@THE WONDER BONER, I have the 4 and this works.
@vermonter, mine doesn't do that. User error I suppose :P
@Walt Hartwell White, it works with earlier iOS, just go into multitasking, swipe left, and hit play. If I remember right. Also, the free app iTube does this, and automatically caches all videos you watch, so you can watch them later without Internet. It's an awesome app!
@THE WONDER BONER, this doesn't work for me...
@THE WONDER BONER, the picture is referring to the YouTube app, which before iOS 6 was built into the operating system, and this was possible when Apple built it.
@THE WONDER BONER, he said the YouTube APP not safari. And close not run in background.
@THE WONDER BONER, also there are at least 2 Cydia tweaks that will allow you to do that.
@THE WONDER BONER, you can actually do that with pretty much all iOS devicesz I'm using a 3rd Gen iPod Touch and I can do that with the old YouTube app, Chrome, Safari, heck I think even Netflix
@THE WONDER BONER, thanks
@THE WONDER BONER, I'm trying this as soon as I get home... I hope it works for iPod touch 5.
@THE WONDER BONER, same with the Xbox One
@THE WONDER BONER, instructions weren't clear, I am now watching a hardcore bdsm bestiality porno.
@THE WONDER BONER, deep thoughts from an erection
@THE WONDER BONER, this is so for iPhones 4+
@Walt Hartwell White, yes
@THE WONDER BONER, it works on ipod 5 too i was so happy when I got iOS7 just for that reason
@GrumpyKat, where is multitasking?
@Basomic, thats because apple used to have a deal with youtube. So since your ipod is third gen, it does this on an older operating system. However newer devices, iphone 4, 4s, 5, 5s, 5c dont all have the capability. I dont have a 5 so it might. But i know it doesnt work on all of em. They broke their contract with youtube.
@GreenDayGirl, double tap your home button. If you're on too old of a device, sorry, but it won't work. Try iTube or another app mentioned around here
@THE WONDER BONER, I've been able to do this since the i pod touch 2G
@THE WONDER BONER, yes yes. But we are talking about that app.
@THE WONDER BONER, I love you.. You have ended my suffering
You used to be able to do that before YouTube became owned by Google and Apple had it as a default app.
@Neigh Sayer, try playtube it also savese
@Neigh Sayer, Sooo... you mean never? YouTube has been a default app since day 1 of the original iPhone.
@intelliDude, Gah. The Send button is not a Return button for the next line. I meant to also say that I use ProTuber for music playback, but it uses up 100% of the RAM on the iPhone 5 (literally every background-running app gets force-closed by iOS for memory issues when running the ProTuber app, and you have to freshly re-open whatever app you were using when you switch songs as a result), so I'm going to look at the other apps you guys have mentioned. It's annoying to keep finding my last viewed image on Funny Pics :P
You can do that on android now.
Or there is an app called Viatube which is awesome
*cough* music tube *cough*
The app VIAtube allows just that actually. Prepare to be astounded.
You know how you can play music by double tapping the home button in locked mode? You can also do it with a YouTube video! Next, close the app, lock your phone, hit play, and now unlock it. If you did it correctly, the sound from the video will play while you diddle on your phone.
Theres an app for that, look up musictube on the app store
But...I can already do that...I've been able to do that for years...
I won't be impressed until funny pictures is a hologram
I just use an app called Musi. It does this exact thing
Checking in from 7/23/16 and it's finally a possibility.
I have youtube red, so yeah, no dumb tricks. Just works and stuff.
I'm impressed with technology. Youtube red lets you do that.
My YouTube app does that....
There's an app called viatube. It allows you to do this or even shut off your phone and it still plays. I love it.
You use to be able to but they stopped letting you
MusicTube app. You are welcome. And also... Boobs. That is all.
It's called iTube. Every video you could find on YouTube can also be found by searching for it on this app. All you have to do is watch it once. And it is saved to your memory. You will be able to watch it without wifi and it take up no space on your device. You can listen to music while using other apps or having your device locked, and you can download TV episodes, movies, music. All for free and they take up no space
Plus it's free.
I have just the thing for you. It's called an android.
Get this app called iTube. It's a YouTube-like app designed for music. The music stays on in the backround and you can save playlists
(sorry if someone's already said this) There's an app on the playstore for Android called pvstar.
You used to be able to do that XD
27 January 2014
@Raven1313, earlier I asked what you were doing because I was confused. We have timekeeper(who commented before you) and the uploader of this picture : timekeepercst (nothing against you just wanted to explain my confusion)
@Srircha, I think I might have replied to your earlier question but sometimes my phone is stuped. I know now that the Timekeeper s are still here but when I started doing the dates they were not doing them as often as the used to. I assumed that they had just dissapeared but in fact they didnt, the original Timekeeper has just been busy with college. I took up the job because I am not very funny but I still wanted to contribute to the community.
Get the app protuber, it allows you to.
It works on iphone 4 (maybe 4s too). Get the free app called "Play Tube" (better app than the youtube app). Search a song, play the video, once playing, exit the app and in the control center press play. It really works.
I find it pretty funny that whenever we have an idea or something to say, but don't have a meme that you can really use with it, we just use this guy (not sure what his name is, sorry) or Will Ferrel (not sure if that's how you spell his last name). And, yes, I am not good at remembering names, and even worst at remembering how you spell it.
The YouTube on iOS 5 allowed you to do that.
Get iTube. Free
You can also do just this on IOS 7 by GOOGLE searching the song, clicking on the video, hitting the home button, dragging up the control menu, then hitting play! I'm pretty sure it works when the phone is off, too! There you go, IOS 7 users! :)
@kylarae17, Or get an android and play the song directly from chrome...
It's called Instatube. Even lets you download the video if you want.
