Just one more reason the 20's and 30's were better! Cars could use their spare to turn around. Everyone was well dressed and polite. Certain folks couldn't vote. Wait what was that last one? on Such advanced technology (Upvotes: 50)
@Blackfrost273, The NFA or national firearms act was enacted in 1934 it aimed to end the use of things like the Thompson submachine gun by members of organized crime groups. It created a national regestry as well as a $200 tax stamp. When purchasing the gun you had to pay the tax and the serial number was registered. It also placed regulations of the transfer, use and possession of such firearms. The gun control act of 1986 made the manufacture of automatic firearms for the civilian market illegal. It did however grandfather versions of said weapons manufactured before May of 1986. Meaning that automatic weapons manufactured before that were still legal to own by civilians but there were some very strict regulations. on Funny Pics (Upvotes: 48)
Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that’s no matter — tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther.... And one fine morning —So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past. on Funny Pics (Upvotes: 44)
@Blackfrost273, To purchase one of the grandfathered versions you have to fill out an ATF form 4 which is a full background check that requires fingerprinting and passport photos to be taken. You send that along with the $200 to the ATF and it takes about 6 months for the paperwork to come back. Once it does it is sent to the chief law enforcement officer in your area who also has to sign off (if he doesn't sign you cannot purchase) once all rhat is done you can take possession of your new firearm. You cannot transport it across state lines, you cannot let anyone handle or use it withought you present, you cannot sell it to someone else without them repeating the process described above. on Funny Pics (Upvotes: 37)
